Rumor: NGP Launching This Fall In Europe

Anything is possible when you don't know what you're talking about.

Just throwing this out there. Sony launched PlayStation Move in Europe and North America before Japan.

I think we'll see it staggered with Europe/NA in November. Japan in December. If they can pull that off... Would be a mighty feat.

If they're trying to push it out as early as possible I can see the launch price in europe at least starting at 600 euros or more.

So when Sony said, regarding the NGP launch price, that they'd learnt their lesson from the PS3 launch, they actually meant that consumers were put off by their bargain (€500) price tag, so clearly Sony should have made it more expensive.

Yeah, but on the flip side, Europeans buy games (at least Sony games) and the dollar is not worth much these days and likely will be much, much lower by the time the NGP comes out.

It would make sense to launch in Europe second, NA last.

Sure...would love that. NA = MS and the rest is for Big N and Sony.

Don't companies ALWAYS launch in their most successful territories first? The territory with the NGP's most successful predecessor was Japan. Therefore Japan gets NGP first because that's their proven market.

Well, whatever, - outside of Japan -I don't see anything in Sony's strategy that would appear to suggest that this thing will be anymore successful than the PSP was in the West. It looks like Sony just following Nintendo's DS lead last gen in respect of its input features.

Well that would help explain the cancellations of the UK studios games. They'll be focusing on getting:

Little Deviants
WipEout
Killzone
LittleBigPlanet

and possibly:

Broken
Reality Fighters
Smart As

Out the door instead.

Wipeout?
As far as I'm aware Studio Liverpool is gone?

Did you hear that today?

People still think they were closed during the last round of layoffs.

On 29 January 2010 Sony made the following public statement: "It has been decided that production on a number of projects within Studio Liverpool will cease immediately due to project prioritisation. Our North West Studio Group has been and will continue to be a vital cog in the WWS family, with a history of producing genre defining games such as MotorStorm, WipEout, Formula 1 and WRC and this decision will have no impact of the role that the North West Studio Group will play in the future of all PlayStation platforms"

Sorry as far as heard last they had closed at some point last year.

umm to be corrected?

I would have said the opposite. Sony have already failed to follow up a successful system with a more expensive one once.

As long as they stay in 2Xk Yen territory, I don't think they'll have much of a problem 'following up' the PSP - if that means creating a similar kind of business. They wouldn't have the same hugely rocky first couple of years that PS3 had, I don't think. Obviously depends on other factors too like software - and in that, drawing a picture that makes it clear NGP is the successor to PSP - but on pricing I think they can make it more expensive than PSP without getting into a level of endangerment comparable to PS3's launch and pricing.

But my point anyway is which territories need a refreshing of the PSP business. Although there's the argument about launching first in your strongest territory, there's also an argument that other territories won't be as patient if the predecessor's business has dwindled. They may also have some positive 'transitional momentum' in Japan, something they won't really have in Europe or NA. I would like to think Sony has at least seriously entertained the possibility of launching the thing in a Western territory first, in a holiday season, to give it a good start there.

That said, theoretical argument aside, I do not think they will launch somewhere outside of Japan first :P Unfortunately. We in Euro-land can come up with nice arguments for why it should happen that it'll launch here ahead of other territories, but that doesn't mean it'll happen! I think the best we can hope for is Japan first, and one western territory by the holidays.

They weren't closed. There was a significant headcount reduction, but AFAIK rumours of a total demise were a great exaggeration. They were only hiring again recently. I would hope that things weren't so disorganised in WWS that Liverpool would be allowed to hire again, and have a new project announced, only for weeks later for that to be cancelled.

If they're going to launch that soon, E3 will be really really interesting for the NGP.

Hopefully they get enough in to the market that the initial shipment isn't completely scooped up by people looking to make a couple hundred off ebay. Then again, this isn't the Wii, and it could very well have inadequate demand for scalpers to really make a big profit.

This fall?

Hmmm it would be a surprise for sure and would make this holiday season quite possibly one of the craziest for a long time.

Holy crap thats fantastic :D.
I literally only heard what was publicized on major websites.
Sorry to most of you this is probably old news but to me this is fucking great.

cheers for that

There's another element to this that I'm not sure has been mentioned - we're just a couple of weeks away from the launch of the 3DS in Europe.

Let's just say Sony would not be at all displeased if rumour-mongering held out the prospect of a NGP release in Europe this year right about now. Anything that gets more people on the fence or in 'hold off' mode.

Why would it make any difference (ignoring the announcement of record pre-orders)? Sony need to do a lot more than just announce the system in order to get people to buy back into the damaged PSP brand here.

I really do not see how it could miss releasing this year. Assuming its November, arent we still 8 months ahead of release, surely time enough for any isshus in production to be corrected before that launch.

I hope we get it here in CONUS in the Fall too, Im so hyped for it already. ($249 baby, please)

I would hold off my order for a 3DS. I know a number of people would do the same.

If this is true, I'm over the moon.

E3/Gamescom should be good then. We should get a 3rd party blow out, more info on the OS and a few other things fleshed out.

It is in Sony's interests to maintain the pretense of near-future NGP availability for as long as possible. If it makes even the smallest difference it's worth doing. It's the same logic, I guess, that made people say they 'had' to announce NGP before the Japanese 3DS launch. Similarly if there's reminders out there in the press of NGP or of NGP 'coming soon' in and around the 3DS launches elsewhere, it does them no harm.

Not entirely relevant but a friend has recently been offered a job by Sony and he told me that they have FOUR London offices with people needing to work together situated on different sites!

God I hope so, ive been getting back into everybodies golf 2 on the PSP recently and im starting to get massive cravings for the NGP version!

not that a mid November release doesn't sound plausible, but yeah, i won't buy into these things again. between the 3DS launch (which i truly believe was aiming for a november launch until hardware production held them back) and the PS3 launch (which i truly believe was tactical smoke and mirrors to make consumers believe the PS3 was right around the corner) i can't buy into this until we get an officially announced release date.

E3 should be spicy :)

Gimme! Gimme! GIMME!

I´m not actually expecting Europe to get better treatment this time around, but remember: Where Sonyland Central compared to the US. You know you want it, Sony.

I think it will be launched in Europe and US for Christmas (November). Then it will launch in Japan and other territories at Q1 2011.

Not launching in Japan in 2011 would be a huge mistake and would probably kill their handheld service, but maybe they'll also launch it in Japan this year.

The words needed to describe PSP software sales in Europe are similar to the words used to describe the Holocaust.

if CoD is part of the launch plan
it'd be stupid not to give EUR and USA priority
but
JPN is usually the top of their hierarchy
and it's the region PSP enjoyed the most success
so hard to imagine this doesn't launch there first...

Sony, I was rich as fuck 5 years ago.... then I bought your PS3 thing on day 1 for 600 euros (that's 830 USD boys...) so give me a break this time and release the NGP in the March lull next year for 300 euros and I'm happy again.

Here's to hoping that Square Enix will have a launch title for NGP that's an RPG.

Hm, surely they will be more focused on getting the FFXIII-2 out in winter than launching a new game on a new system? They do not seem present for the 3DS launch window, so that could signify that they arent interested in being on systems at launch.

I will be absolutely stunned if it comes out in Europe alongside the US and Japan. I don't think that's ever happened with a new SONY console before.
