I can promise you, it's not a hybrid system.
Remember what Doc said, Marty. Don't interfere with the past.

I'm not an insider obviously, I'm just very skeptical that something as complicated as a hybrid system would be released. It's just common sense. My prediction is that it'll be a traditional console, probably as OP says with motion controls. It's also right about time for Nintendo to release a new handheld. It'll probably have some ability to pair with the home console. That's all.
Calm down guys.
Why? How would the system be better with less functionality/options?That's the worst news I've heard about it. Hopefully, that's just a rumor.
Shaking the remote for DKC and NSMB is sort of annoying, but nothing like Twilight Princess.
Implying that Skyward Sword or the Zelda attaction in Nintendoland are anything like remote waggling in TP is you being obtuse.
Why do you ...honestly...even entertain this line of thought ?
It doesn't make any sense at all to expect it to, when TP HD didn't even offer Wii remote controls.

How can it be comfortable to hold and at the same time be attachable to a screen?
You already broke your promise.
Skyward Sword and the Zelda attraction are doing near 1:1 tracking with whatever your arm is doing. It's not the same thing as shake----action.They're all shake gestures mapped to functions that'd normally be assigned to buttons.
That's what people mean by "waggle." That it's used for something less basic than "swing your sword" isn't really material to the point.
You're literally fighting against multiple creditable sources on this one. If Nintendo wanted a seperate Wii remote control scheme, Tantalus would have put it in. Nintendo didn't want it in/ thought traditional controls were more fitting.Well, the guys who did that port seemed to hate using the remote and nunchuck, so no one should be surprised. None of the ports they did used them. Sadly, I purchased Deus Ex, but that was a major lapse in judgement. Won't happen again. Heh, heh.

If this rumor is true, than the NX controller attachments won't be the strictest interpretation of that recent patent, in which there were no electrical components.

It's just such a dumb thing to go "Oh no, Zelda U will use this controversial control scheme from 10 years ago, won't it. Hope not DX !"
Why even bother posting that.
LPVG has learned that these controllers are designed to phase out the Wii Remote over time....
No, Nintendo. You are not 'phasing out the Wii remote over time.' You want motion control of some kind, fine, but there is no "phasing out" of Wii remotes at this point. You should have already at this point in preparation for a clean break dutifully killed off the now-brand name zombie nightmare of anything related to Wii but no, by all means inject some fresh life into the corpse so it can continue to devour and possibly destroy the future of your company.
ShiiiiieetAh yes, it all makes sense now.
Why do you guys reckon the NES mini controllers use the wiimote plugs? For backwards compatibility with consoles that no one plays anymore? No sir, it's because they are coming out with updated wiimotes for NX that also feature that extension plug. That way you can also use the controllers for NES VC on NX.
This rumour is 100% a lock.
The hammer that's anchored inside a shrine and is 10 times bigger than Link is controllable with buttons?
LegendofLex has played BotW.
Shiiiiieet
There's nothing wrong with allowing people who already have them to use them, even if they aren't ever sold or marketed as NX controllers.
To be fair, I didn't play that particular segment. But anything that can be aimed with gyro (like the hammer in that trial) can be aimed with sticks as well.
There's nothing inherently wrong with allowing multiple control set-ups. Take Smash for example, there are pros who use the Wii Remote & Nunchuck (though they are far from the majority). Smash 4 in general uses tons of control options, so keeping as many of them as possible for the NX port is a good call (though of the alternate controllers used in Smash, getting the GameCube Controller to work should be top priority). No, Nintendo. Yeah, plus Aonuma has already confirmed full Pro Controller support for the game.
Whatever, the word "Wii" just better not be anywhere on the boxes. Even something like "NX is compatible with Wii Mote accessories" is inviting a repeat of mass consumer confusion and disaster all over again.
I believe one GAF insider said that Nintendo is moving away from the Wii brand, so no worries there.Whatever, the word "Wii" just better not be anywhere on the boxes. Fingers crossed it's optional. No interest in playing a Zelda with motion controls again.
Feel like everyone suggesting it's crazy to worry wtf Nintendo is doing here hasn't been paying attention for the past 15-20 years.
It's not like people are questioning a company who has never made major mistakes, bad bets, or gotten fucky with controllers over and over and over again just to satisfy one Miyamoto side project at the cost of 3rd party coverage. How many times have we been through this now? We can see it all coming and y'all wanna act like there's nothing here to criticize.

If the portable device is docked and streaming to your TV, the NX controller attachments won't even be acting as attachments to a handheld anyway(they'll be operating separately), in which case of course they won't be an implementation of the patent since the patent is for modular control bits attached to a handheld.
There could very well be gyro built in to the portable itself, which would abrogate any need for the attachments to use electrical components while connected to the portable.
In theory you wouldn't need any sort of physical or optical connection between the controller attachments and the screen, since they can communicate wirelessly.
I still think if that patent will be used it will be mainly for optional add-on accessories which can be purchased alone or potentially come packaged with certain games. Not for the standard control scheme.

The whole hybrid console/handheld if done well sounds pretty cool. You just put your handheld in the dock and keep playing on your tv.
But I'm not sure if there is a market for it. Are there people that actually take their portable gaming on the go AND have the desire to play at home on their tv screen?
I mean, I could see them rebranding the Wii Remotes into whatever name the NX ends up having, while allowing the millions of existing Wii Remotes in the wild to still work. As stated earlier, games like Smash allowed for multiple controllers from multiple generations to work with no issue, so I don't see why Nintendo should stop with that now.Eh, we'll see. "Moving away"? More like fleeing. All I know is they better not even be tempted to put anything related to Wii on any of the packages. What post was that btw?
Yes. I am one of them. But then I'm weird and my favourite platform this gen by far is the Vita. The whole hybrid console/handheld if done well sounds pretty cool. You just put your handheld in the dock and keep playing on your tv.

So it might be another split controller design like the Wii remote and nun chuck? I'm OK with that, as long as it has all the buttons a standard controller has. Nintendo just needs to show us this thing already.

Plus, as mentioned by someone else in this thread, the new NES Controller for the NES Mini uses the same plug found on the bottom of Wii Remotes, so that kinda hinted towards said port being retained for the NX.
