Rumor: Sony's new rumble controller to debut with 80GB PS3

A Sony representative confirmed on Thursday that controller rumble will make its way to the PS3 for the first time, this after several lawsuits surrounding the technology.

Kotaku's Brian Ashcraft is reporting that a Sony Computer Entertainment employee confirmed to him today that SixAxis with rumble is on the way. No other details were provided, although rumor broke earlier this week that a rumble-enabled controller would appear with the release of the new 80GB PlayStation 3 this August.

What better way to show off the new rumble than with Motorstorm? This rumble controller, if it's coming, should be in that new Motorstorm PS3 80GB bundle retailing for $600.

It's not that big of a deal...i'm 100% sure they would sell it separately.

or maybe not lulz sony

Aaargh...these "rumble coming" rumors are so annoying. We know it's coming.

What I want to know is, which Immersion technology is it going to use?!??!?!! Come on Sony, spill it you assholes.

I always figured it would. Why bother to release it only as a separate accessory when you can pack it and further push the whole package?

Once Motorstorm was the bundled game, this is the first thing that should have popped in your head.

I will buy the ShockAxis in August.

I will probably buy Motorstorm now too. I loved the demo, but lack of rumble in the game was a killer. I wanted to feel all those bumps, and now I can in a next gen rumble experience. :D

So..20 more gigs plus rumble for 599? Can we say the early adopters were screwed akin to people saying MS screwed its early adopters by selling the Elite for $80 more with 100 gigs more and hdmi output?

So shitty BC in exchange for Shockaxis...

I'm on the verge of buying a PS3, so decisions, decisions...
Or, you could buy a 60 GB and a controller (and Motorstorm) for probably about the same price. (of course, you lose 20GB, but its a fair price.)

what do you guys think? we're all agreed this isn't going to be just regular ol' rumble, right?

and when it releases, Phil will be asked to explain his comment about rumble being last gen.

I have foreseen this for ages. He'll say "rumble is last gen. TouchSense is next-gen."

If rumble is last gen and TouchSense is next gen, what is current gen? :P

Early adopters are never "screwed" when you decide to buy a product for X amount of dollars it means you have justified that expenditure for what you are getting out the box. Just because later on that product is Y amount of dollars with Z features added in no way means the early adopter got screwed. The only ones to bitch about it would be the ****ing morons who don't do any research before a major purchase.

Just came home and read about PS3's unfathomable price increase by GAF (:lol ) and this is all that runs through my mind on Sony from now on:

Sony should correct another wrong and at the very least include component cables in the 80GB package, if not a HDMI cable.

it's about time

Early adapters are ALWAYS screwed. Remember when the 120G HDMI Elite was released?

I cannot wait for Nintendo to announce a Wii with HDMI and DVD functions.

This is what I expecting, if anything, I'm surprised they didn't say anything about at E3. But then again, that would probably detract from sales of the 60GB a bit, as some people would opt to wait for the 80GB. Great news if true.

quoted again for even more truth

Are they seriously kidding? Even at LAUNCH the ps3 should have had component or hdmi cables. Sony is, first and foremost, an electronics manufacturer. They've been making video receivers, optical disc players, and TVs for a long, long time. Makes no ****ing sense.

At the LEAST this 80gb bundle should have cables. But as I said they should have been there at launch.

lol give sony a break they are gettting raped in losses from making the ps3. they arent selling memory cards, hardrives or wifi adapters so they have to make some easy money back somehow.

What if they had waited 1 more year with the PS3?
What if?

Blu-Ray would've lost to HD-DVD.

The 360 would've had an even stronger library and a 3-year warranty.

Even more developers would've jumped on board with the 360.

The PS2 would be providing even less revenue to offset PS3 introduction expenses.

The PS3 would get ports from the 360, but instead of 3-6 months later, a year or more later.

Waiting wasn't much of an option. Contrary to what Sony said, the next generation started when Microsoft said it did, by releasing the 360.

Quote for the mother ****ing truth, Jesus Christ people buy your cables online for cheap.

This would be a really good idea. This is the first thing i thought of when i heard the 60gb is no longer being made....

So i guess this more confirms the new 80gb ps3 will have a controller with rumble.

This price drop will clear out all the stock of old ps3 with non-rumble controllers. Also i have seen some deal where you buy a ps3 you get a free controller.

NOW this controller better have the next-gen version of toushsense or NO BUY!!

So...does that mean since they won't be making 60GB's the only way to get the rumble controller would be through paying $599 for the 80GB or wait till it goes to $499 in 2 years?

wtf.gif.

I might pay $714 again now for the 80GB :(

Edit: This shit is not worth it. That's almost $1000 CAD...

aren't there scans of the box art for the new unit floating around? If there was a shockaxis in there somewhere I'd think it would be plastered all over the box.

i didnt have a problem with getting an hdmi cable, but a piece of hardware like the PS3 coming with composite cables is tacky.

The fact that this is a new bundle is a great opportunity to include an item that should have been there from the start. Considering the much touted audio/visual capabilities of the PS3, the lack of even component cables is whack.

80gb, motorstorm, shockaxis, and component cables would be a great bundle. Maybe a bluray too. Do it Sony.

True. Composite? :/ component at least.

This is kind of a good deal though, only problem is I'm out of $$$ right now :(

...or buy it when they sell it separately as an accessory, probably at the same time they release the 80GB.
