It amazes me that people really believe that a company as big as MS, who have obviously spent a lot of money firstly getting the game timed exclusive, then confirming a new deal for full exclusivity would leave a gaping hole in the contract where EA could just add a word on the end and break the contract. Unless the deal made with EA had a get-out clause if sales weren't high enough, they confirmed for the life of the title, and I don't think they can up and walk away from that.

Heh, I would say that a game that has sold to at least 1/4 of the console's 4,000,000 userbase is a "system seller". MS more than likely wanted the game to sell more systems after it launched but Titanfall was definitely a reason why people bought an Xbox One before and after the game launched.

Anyway, I don't believe this. Future sequel? Yeah definitely. The first one though? After MS spent all the money locking it up? No way.

Rumors and threads like these are the reason I think Microsoft locked this up in the first place. The timed exclusive rumor got out that Titanfall would come to PlayStation within 6-12 months, so MS felt they needed to extinguish that fire by money hatting the "life of the title".

Wouldn't surprise me if the same thing happened to the sequel if this carries on.

I in no way believe this is true.

However, many times an exclusivity contract will contain riders. If EA put a rider in that MS had to have a certain percentage of the market or a number of consoles sold by a particular date it is possible. Again I do not think the PS4 will see Titanfall 1, just a thought.

yes, and everyone thought that, including Respawn up until the day of the announcement. Microsoft made a deal with EA after it was timed exclusive for full exclusivity instead.

On the other hand, I wonder how they could word the contract such that changing the game in some manner would *not* make it different enough that they could claim it's a different game and release it without breaking the contract.

I'm not saying the rumor is true, but contracts get written with termination clauses all the time. Contracts are amended all the time. No one here has seen what the agreements actually say. Nothing is ever set in stone; all you have to do is write up a new agreement, and maybe with the sales not living up to expectations, EA has leverage or some failsafe in the contract has kicked in.

We don't know, but it's not outside of the realm of possibility.

Honestly, it's not nearly as difficult as you make it out to be.

You know I wouldn't doubt this. As others have mentioned games have gotten published for other consoles before when they were "exclusive" to one console. There are all sorts of things they could do to have gotten it on PS4. Maybe a version that has had some changes and a name change. Maybe MS and EA renegotiated the deal. We don't know.

That said of course I'm a skeptic and I'll believe it when I see it.

Sounds like the sequel is just being fast tracked for holiday '15, and that will be in PS4 as well. Now that the first Titanfall is out, the foundation is set for a sequel and dev time should be less.
