Rumor: Titanfall slated for PS4.

why? Seems like a reasonable objection to me.

So how would it happen legally, given that we know that MS bought exclusivity?

EA change the title to Titanfall 2015 and release the exact same game on PS4 with no changes beyond the menus.

Not that I'm suggesting EA would ever do something like that with one of their major franchises...

Wouldn't be surprised, "life of the title" really means till sales fall off, that can be weeks or months.
If MS had deal they can just do a Titan Fall Sigma.
There are lots of ways round it.

Even though Titanfall sold extremely well, I wonder if the contract stated that Respawn had to be recouped potential losses as a percentage of PS4 sales in order for Microsoft to get exclusivity, or that the XB1 had to have above a specified percentage of the market. By Titanfall not being on the PS4, Respawn is losing more than just money, it is losing mind share. There are plenty of people who would have bought the game but didn't because it wasn't on the PS4. It would be a lot easier to sell those people a Titanfall 2 if they had played Titnafall 1.

So the problem might not be that Titanfall sold poorly, but that the PS4 sold so well. Microsoft might not have wanted to pay to keep the exclusivity, or simply didn't sell enough XB1s relative to the PS4.

Man the hate for pete is ridiculous

I missed this. Why? I know he got the rumor wrong about why some guy left a company, but that can't be the reason for all the hate. Right?!?

So, the hype for this game is not manufactured anymore?

On a serious note, i can't see this happening, but... i also couldn't see Mass Effect coming to the PS3 so, who knows?

It's not so much how, but the fact that Dodd heard the same thing. We know his sources were severely compromised and that led to him posting libel against someone who was forced to take time away from his sick child to defend himself, hard to take anyone who posts whatever they hear without verifying seriously again...
It was a trusted source that gave him that info who had been correct several times before.

Besides, he apologised anyway

Game has zero legs.

I was bored after the first night.

TF2 could change my opinion on the franchise. Do not care about a TF1 port, except for the gaming news fun if it did happen.

Pretty much what I heard.

Even if it did get ported the game is just lacking right now in the content area and for the most part has gone quiet community wise

Not really sure what Fake Hype is. I guess they could use spambots to get in the top downloaded list on iTunes like Flappy Bird did?

"fake hype" = "i don't like it and i don't see why anyone else does"

See all the people crying about Titanfall being hyped by gaming press and people who played it at events.

Even if this rumor were true, which in all likelihood it is not, they would have to release it pretty soon to avoid competing with Destiny, which is going to crush it.

The problem is we are all assuming that MS and EA really did sign a "life of the title" contract.

How do you know if they did, were you there?

http://www.gameinformer.com/b/news/...-lifelong-xbox-exclusivity-for-titanfall.aspx

During EA’s second quarter 2014 financial call, the topic turned Titanfall. Many have speculated that it's a Microsoft timed exclusive, but EA put those discussions to rest once and for all.

Addressing a question, chief financial officer Blake Jorgensen stated with no uncertainty that Titanfall is an exclusive for Microsoft platforms and PC "for the life of the title." If you want to play Respawn's first title, you won't be able to do it on a PlayStation 4.

Titanfall Sigma

Well it was quite explicitely stated yes. To which extent there was a "way out" in unclear.
The game was originally meant to be multiplat. MS's explanation that it actually wasn't because Respawn "was in early on XB1 design" etc doesn't quite make sense considering their reaction when the deal was announced.

The game wasn't "exclusive" originally as far as we know.
MS might have insisted for a deal, to which Activision might well have included a confidential clause that if the game doesn't perform X then they can port it elsewhere.
No one knows what's in their contract, after all, so it doesn't have to be a "backdoor".

If this can be done then My Lord this will be GAF's E3.

Let's take this at face value for a sec.

Would Titanfall do well on PS4?

They could get around the contract by calling it Titanfall: 1080p edition

EA could always ask to Sony to put TF on the IGC for x amount of money. That way you spread your game out to everyone even if they never heard about it before.

That's why I'm looking for a statement confirming full non-timed exclusivity from EA.

Looking at history, game directors or console manufacturers have assured full exclusivity only for the publisher to turn a full 180 and go multiplatform. Publisher is the final word. And this is EA, agreements can't hold them back.

That said I remember reading Titanfall devs weren't originally happy with the exclusivity deal either, they wanted to bring Titanfall to both PS and Xbox camps.

Err... MS has the financial wherewithal to sue EA into oblivion. I'm pretty sure a solid agreement could hold them back. I just can't see MS being dumb enough to not have an airtight contract. Also, businesses can't really breach an agreement just because of some minor technicality or some small omission in the language. There's such a thing as good faith and fair dealing in all business dealings.

The only way I could see this happening is a termination clause where certain performance metrics aren't met (unlikely that any prognostications wouldn't have been met since the game sold very well), or EA bought out the contract (also unlikely since I doubt they could really make it back by selling a port of a game that is now yesterday's new and had much of its hype deflated after release.

Maybe Respawn personal use. Some port on other system unofficially just because for fun and learning.

Plenty of new players when I log in and it has just gone back to number one in the UK chart, so I think it is actually doing very well.

Yes, @Titanfallgame game is exclusive. No, not a timed exclusive. It will only be available on Xbox One, Xbox 360 & PC

From Major Nelson.

Not sure how they can't get around that.

While I have zero doubt titanfall will remain exclusive (outside of sequels, perhaps), Nelson is not a good source for information.

It's not so much how, but the fact that Dodd heard the same thing.

So given everything we know about Titanfall and how vocal MS has been about their platform exclusivity, the fact that Pete Dodd heard the same rumour is the thing that makes you not believe it?

It does sound a bit childish, but ok.

I have to take that guys word for it? For all we know he will be fired next quarter. Nothing is set in stone, not even "contract".

Lol of course they are otherwise EA will get sued to hell and back. The only question is if Microsoft made an iron tight contract. I imagine after similar dealings with titles like Ninja Gained, they did otherwise they have awful lawyers.

Its entirely possible there was a termination clause, it was just that Microsoft in all their hubris thought they would definitely move the specified number, and in fact didn't.

Beta + couple weeks retail satiated me more than enough, but I have that same problem with every death match style shooter. This is probably just an internal only test build in preparation for the sequel.

Such contracts probably wouldn't hold up in the court of law. But I'm not a lawyer.

More than likely fake.

But imagine the whole thing was a narrative just to convince people to buy the game on the Xbox.

a milion in the US is Close to 1:2 attach-ratio. Not too shabby tbh.
This argument is so flawed, just give it up. Relative terms don't mean jack shit, when it comes to profit. For all we know, Titanfall could have fabricated losses considering the massive marketing campaign (although EA probably wouldn't want to continue the fresh franchise in this case). Plus, it actually statistically was a system deseller.

Tidux didn't explicitely mention the first Titanfall, so I would assume he means Titanfall, the franchise, which is quite obvious.
