I doubt DOF is Japan exclusive lolI hope the final NOA version looks better than that pic.
All signs point to the NoA built simply being early[...]
It's always going to be a problem to have lower capacity than the competition. It wasn't taken much advantage of this generation, though, since few would care to aim development so squarely at the third place machine that having an X360 release would be problematic.KojiKnight said:Do 50GB discs matter? How many PS3 games used them... MGS4 is about the only one I can think of, and that's because it had hours of HD video and audio stored on it.
It seems that quite a few gaf'rs saw these "specs" before the leak. Imo that doesn't make them more or less true. I asked for the source of the rumor, since he supposedly posted in this topic. And I asked what company he worked for, but no one knows the answer or are willing to give it. I personally can not give credibility in situations where the source is being cloak and dagger on what they know and who they work for.Ah ok. Well for me I saw what was in the OP before they came out.
They've already been mentioned, but considering all they've said publicly (lherre over the last year) I don't think we'll learn that info.
The NOA version is even missing effects such as DoF!
How does this happen? :lol
Well there is this
http://semiaccurate.com/2012/09/04/microsoft-xbox-next-delay-rumors-abound/
& this
both saying that there was a switch from IBM to AMD.
I would assume that NoA is working with older builds for localization while NCL takes its shots from their most up-to-date versions.

NoA version is superior because it lacks DoF.
DoF is such a horrible thing.

Pikmin 3 does a nice job.I agree in general. It doesn't seem to have been implemented in a realistic manner this generation. The Madden games for example have an atrocious implementation. Does anyone have any examples of it being done right? The Nintendoland screenshot isn't the worst I have seen, but it could definitely be done better.
Yes. But Pikmin needs a bit of AA too.Pikmin 3 does a nice job.
What media are you looking at that you believe Pikmin 3 needs AA?Yes. But Pikmin needs a bit of AA too.
Again, and i can't stress it enough Nintendo, add anti aliassing whenever you can in the best way you can. Not doing it is criminal towards the fine artists that make your game shine.
Christ, does Nintendo not believe in Anti Aliasing? Hmm, this one has infinite DoF too.
Nice shadows though.
Pikmin 3 dof.
What media are you looking at that you believe Pikmin 3 needs AA?
Looks like the recent (NoJ) build does uses some type of anti-aliasing.
So... the Noa colors are slightly duller and the jp pic is smoother...
Remember:
They used a video with scroll lag to show off Nintendo TVii - and I don't believe that it will have scroll lag on the day it's being released.
And now you got screenshots with heavy jaggies. I think the final product will look slightly different.
I'm wondering if Pikmin 3 got pushed back so they could work on it a little more actually.
Pikmin 3 does a nice job.
That media. A lit if DoD will hide them a bit, but not enough.Pikmin 3 dof.
What media are you looking at that you believe Pikmin 3 needs AA?
I'm not sure about that. You scaled the NOA pic down to the NOJ pic's size, but the outcome depends on the downscaling method. I did the same with Lanczos and it looks a bit better (less aliased):
The difference in colors might come from the method which was used to grab the image.
Also, the DoF works really well in this Macro world. It fits/ suits the theme.

Ofcourse they are not nearly as visible as in the nintendoland screens.
But in the nintendoland screens with dof you can still see the same jaggies. Half of them are kinda hidden in the DoF.
I DO think Pikmin3 looks very good. Not just an upscaled wii game like some blind people say, but you CAN see itJ started development on the Wii.

Can you point out which of those pictures that you feel are showing noticeable aliasing?
these screens have a lot of compression/ jpeg artifacts. In the true/ sharp screens you can see jaggies where-ever the DoF effect stops. Again, not NEARLY as visible as in the Nintendoland screens. In those screens it's completely shocking.
One of the complaints during E3 was that no game was using any AA. But some people (like Ideaman) said that AA woud be added before release. I sincerely hope that. Jaggies are a cancer to artwork imo.
All the media I've seen for the game shows clear aliasing in the areas not affected by DoF.What media are you looking at that you believe Pikmin 3 needs AA?
I see the compression artifacts, that you mention, most notably on the actual pikmin. Where are the true/ sharp screens? I would like to see those. Have they been posted on gaf anywhere?
It doesn't seem like it's been pushed back, other than the Wii->WiiU shift. As long as it's been announced it's been "launch window" but not "holiday", so Q1 2013.I'm wondering if Pikmin 3 got pushed back so they could work on it a little more actually.
Check this out. All signs point to the NoA built simply being early or missing effects/post processing for whatever reason. The below picture is from NoJ
I realize you can still see the game's Wii roots, but I don't understand where people get off calling this game ugly.
Not sure why you're quoting me with something i haven't said, lol.
This would make Durango and Oribis the same box more or less.......
I'd laugh and laugh and laugh. Then cry a little. Then I'd laugh some more.
Man Im lost in this thread, from what I gather its confirmed that Wii U has 2GB of ram, 1GB for devs and ~1GB for the OS?

Agreed
DOF is automatically created by human eye, the only scenario this would be practically usable is in an eyetracking configuration where a spectator watches another player, the DOF effect would then indicate to the spectator exactly where the player is looking. The player him self doesn't need this effect at all.
Because PC monitors are usually small and don't cover the whole wide-range, DOF may be exaggerated in games, the eye doesn't do that much that close.
DOF is straight from consoles, because HDTVs are bigger and they, but you also sit further away so I don't see any reason at all.

bg, the new tweet from IBM, does it bring something new to the table or how do you interpret that? Is it still possible that it's that "476" you and Wsippel believed to be the most likely candidate? Can we forget about "3core Broadway"?
See this is exactly what I'm talking about. Learn what info? You said he confirmed some things about the Wii U hardware that are in the OP and I want to know what they are. What company does he work for? Is it a company who would have access to the latest dk's from Nintendo? If he's the source then maybe we can ask him why he omitted a whole extra gig of ram in his "leak"? As I already pointed out, none of the supposedly new information in the OP has been confirmed by Nintendo, one of their Wii U partners or a named developer who is actually known to be working closely with Nintendo on Wii U games.

Sorry if I missed it, but did that mention of Power 7 result in anything different regarding speculation on the CPU?

Well originally I thought it was going to be three stripped down POWER7 cores. Then when lherre told us about the assymetrical cache, I thought about maybe one modified P7 core and two modified 476FPs. And then when Espresso kept harping about it being "the same" Broadway cores, I thought three modified 476FPs though in retrospect I think he was taking that too literally.
