Rumor: Xbox One pushed back to 2014 in certain territories due to translation issues

Translation issues seems like a weird reason. I would expect it to be something to do with yields and not being able manufacture enough consoles for all of the countries.

Tagged it as a rumor, here are some important points.

- Rumors that Xbox One launch is pushed back to 2014 started popping up
- CVG Editor says they are not true and that the UK launch is still in november
- Belgian website has confirmation from (retail) source that the release is indeed pushed back to 2014 (for Belgium at least, but also Holland and Scandinavian countries are named)
- Delay is probably the result of translation issues for these specific countries

What in the hell? How long does it take to fix this? I call bullshit on this story. Either that or they are indeed having yield issues.

Edit: Ah I see it is translation issues related to Kinect, that makes sense.

Two men are standing in a massive warehouse filled with Xbones ready to ship.

Microsoft guy #1: so, what if those people in Holland and Scandinavia don't speak English well enough to control the Kinect?
Microsoft guy #2: Eh...

Ironically, I think Holland and Scandinavia have some of the highest English-proficiency ratings in the world.

No specifics were given regarding to 'translation issues'. It could be Kinect, it could be something else.

Multiple (retail) sources in Belgium only said 'translation issues'.

As someone from Yorkshire, I can say that when I play MMO's Scandinavians generally do speak clearer English than me.

However launching with the countries native language not available may seem a little...arrogant perhaps? not good for the image of the company.

We had a thread a few weeks back that confirmed they dropped from 21 down to 13 countries didn't we? If its more that's not good news. MS of course will want to push out its console in the 2 countries where it did well this gen but its setting itself up for an even bigger impossible task in the rest of the world where surely now PS4 will have cemented itself.

"Translation issues" sounds like PR bullshit for "We done fucked up our manufacture timelines."

Wouldn't stock issues make more sense?

I mean they might just want to prioritize their primary territories like the US and UK.

I can't imagine they can't get the menus done.

Maybe the problem is with kinect 2.0 voice recognition data ? europe has plenty of languages after all.

Just saying

Translation issues has to mean it has something to do with Kinect voice recognition. otherwise it...

Pretty much agree with this one here, their backtracking to global release was way too quick for their production capacity planning. Sony is going to beat the shit out of these people with a lead pipe the first quarter of sales.

This sounds like it could well be true, but sounds much nicer than "deal with it" "why would i live there?" "or "buy a 360" It seems Microsoft are learning.

Maybe it is translation issues for some European countries and the fantasy football plugin for the NFL deal. We all know this is a deal breaker for that region if they can't get it right?!

I dont buy this excuse. You need a Day 1 patch to activate and update the system, right? So if it isnt software, its hardware. Has to be yield issues.
And by Software, I mean, they could easily patch the known issues in that launch update and simply not require a delay.

This is certainly more credible than the other Europe 2014 delay rumor.
Manufacturing issues and Kinect not working properly in certain languages mean that they'll focus on the biggest markets for them so they'll launch in the US and the biggest european markets (UK, France, Germany,Spain, Italy).

You think Europe even cares one iota about american Football?

Don't believe it's for translation issues.
Translations are taken seriously at a software company like Microsoft... They have their shit together with translations. Word is translated into like 126 languages or something.

Apparently, Europe can't figure out sarcasm.

Not serious enough apparently for Microsoft. Half of the text on the 360 dashboard is in english, the rest in my language.

Translation issues in Belgium? We get all out stuff in English.

And if this is true, they might just give up altogether. Just pack it up.

The current dashboard has a dreadful mix of Dutch and English even when your system language is set to English. The Fable 3 free download was the French version with no option to download an English version besides a crummy language pack that nixed all voice acting and people have been getting French ads on the dashboard for years. In summary, translation issues could very well be the cause of a delay as their current infrastructure still has a hard time differentiating between Dutch users and French speaking users for whatever reason.

4gamers is reputable for what it's worth, but the post doesn't really have any concrete evidence.

If true, Microsoft is (even more) fucked.

Sony would hold virtual exclusivity in these territories for titles such as COD, BF, Watch Dogs and Assassin's Creed. The last thing Microsoft needs is to give Europeans even one more reason to get a PS4.

Sony? They have to worry about WiiU too.
Its still cheaper, it will have CoD, WatchDogs and AC and
more exclusive titles on display.

Really? Fuck, I have it downloaded, but haven't played it yet. I'll send it back to hell, then.

And yeah, I put my dashboard language to Dutch because the English just looked so wrong. I haven't touched my Xbox in ages, that stuff fades into the back of your mind after a while.

I was talking with a guy from Belgium and he said that some anonymous Microsoft employees said to 4gamers.be no Xbone for Belgium and Netherlands at launch.

Just take that with a bit of salt because can be false too.

Not a single company delays a product launch for undefined translation issues. They can pay a number of agencies within Europe to do the translations for them overnight.

I think most of us smell BS on that for sure, however, the question now becomes is this a dumb excuse for redistributing units because of supply issues.

I guess that certain countries like Luxemburg, that are not so important for Microsoft (except for saving taxes ;-) ), will get only few consoles this year. They want to have good sales in the US and UK this year, that's all what matters. Even Foxconn can't produce millions of consoles in a few weeks.
