Rumour – Heavenly Sword 2 in the works, more coming at E3

That they did, though this would be such a bizarre IP to have them work on.

It would fit them quite well. Also wouldn't hurt to turn Heavenly Sword into a relevant franchise. It had a lot of potential and i'm sure that SSM could get it to where it should be. It would also likely allow them to experiment with concepts for the next GoW. The main thing that people liked about HS was the story and cutscenes. So they could do whatever they wanted to the gameplay without much backlash.

Truth.

Indeed. Pretty goddamn awful. I won't even give it a glance if this game has auto-block in it.

I don't mean that it would fit them poorly from a gameplay perspective, but putting one of your most successful teams on a mixed reception game that didn't sell especially well just strikes me as odd.

I'm not ruling it out, it's just that I would be rather confused at the decision making process Sony went through.

I really doubt it's Santa Monica.

Did anyone of SCEA studios ever completely developed ( not helping on tech) any of SCEE IPs before?

My money on Cambridge/London here.

It would be strange to even resurrect HS given the points that you made. But if they're going to do it then they best option is SSM. No reason to risk it in the hands of another developer.

Wow. Sounds more like a reboot than a sequel. Doubtful that NT is developing this, but of course I hope they are. I don't think they're big enough to have multiple teams. Who owns that HS IP?

Yeah fucking right. I don't believe this rumor for a second.

(Because the original sold like shit and blewwwww.)

"Don't we have a character action game that isn't God of War?"

"Heavenly Sword?"

"Yeah, that one! Why aren't we making a new one?"

"Because the first one sold horribly, and wasn't very well received either"

"Well, give it to a good team, and maybe we can turn that around!"

"How about the God of War team? They just shipped God of War 3, they have a pedigree in this stuff!"

"Great!"

Maybe something like that :P

First Starhawk, now the Heavenly Sword 2 rumor. Have we warped back to 2007? Is a Lair 2 announcement imminent?

Right after the new Untold Legends game.

Pre-E3 rumors, so delicious for various reasons.

1st game had a ton of promise and was pretty fun in a lot of places. Also, HS still has some of the best cutscenes and expressions in a game.

I never understood this hate for "auto-block" and lack of jumping in HS. The system made sense to me, plus if you were blocking you were playing it wrong. Countering is where you should have been living not blocking.

OH MAN, imagine if one was announced for NGP. That would be hilarious!

Not true but that's our opinion. Horrible loading I'll agree with.

I liked the first one because of the characters. The rest...meh. I suppose I'll bite on a second one being made.

Imagine if the developers of God of War III got their hands on this IP... as they rightfully should!

Ninja Theory have hit a roadblock for game development on the PS3... screen tearing!!!

I am going to buck the trend and state that if Santa Monica has anything to do with this game, instant no but. The game was already harken to a Female GOW, if the creators of GOW make it, it really would just be another clone and GOW3 wasn't that great

I don't see why not. I still enjoyed the first game; was a little lukewarm on it though. I still think it's worth having another shot at it. It could be great.

Anyway, here's a minor update on DmC in case anyone was wondering. It'll be at E3 for sure. Seth Killian and Christian Svensson talked about it yesterday on Ask Capcom.

They say it plays unmistakably like the other Devil May Cry games. Visually, it's a beautiful game. That's all so far. We'll have more at E3.

Anyway, I believe that Ninja Theory can really pull it out.

Yes, I was playing it wrong and the game awarded me 0 damage for doing so.

Are you implying countering was hard in that game?

I was really excited for this back before I had a PS3, and after I realized this thing they spent two years just coming up with what they considered a "deep" combat system was truly terrible in that regard. I can't play an action combat game with a shitty combat system.

After Enslaved, I am suspect they'd be able to fix this major problem still. We'll see. I'd rather them try to work on their terrible action gaming skills with Heavenly Sword 2 than Devil May Cry. Maybe after like the tenth sequel we'll be getting somewhere in the window of the competence of a DMC game

I can't wait for E3's serious, 30fps-with-massive-slowdown kiddie pool combat DMC game. The laughs will be fantastic and almost worth the destruction of the franchise.

And yes: Next week on GTTV we will be announcing and showing first gameplay from a new PS3 exclusive game. E3 is going to be nuts.

HMMMMMMMMM

It really needs Kai or Nariko in it otherwise not sure it's worth it (yes I realize the issue with Nariko being in it, but they could find a way probably). Some new character getting the sword would be meh. I am definitely curious to see this game if this rumor is true though.

Heh, less than a month to E3,
nice to see the leaks really start going. ;)

And you can't have enough character-action games IMO.

There have been far worse character action games.

:O

Crikey Shiggy, do you have any more? I assume this was canned in the planning stages when NT were working on it... if they ever were.

The sad thing is that HS probably could have run closer to 30fps if they had made some better technical decisions.

Dropping the 4xMSAA (which is practically unheard of on PS3, especially at 720p) would have yielded a nice framerate boost.
