Rumour: 360 price cut in the UK this month?

How about throwing wifi in or cutting the price of it?

Would be nice, I am in the market for a PS3 mostly because of the WiFi so I can stream my media (BluRay and games will be a bonus) to a room with no networking cables. My 360 has spoiled me with the media streaming so of course I need it on every TV in the house....

Arcade with WiFi promo would save them from me buying some PS3 games eventually :D

Microsoft has a press conference on Monday morning (Europe), I don't know anything about what will be announced but it's supposed to be very big.

After a pretty much total black-out since X06, with the only notable big announcement for a 360 game being Gears 2 I want to believe this is something I will think it totally awesome.

I feel like im going to be disapointed :(

THey are supposed to tell their stuff to retailers, it was the retailers who let slip. That is out of their control.
But it seems they have already told retailers. So what's the point of this press conference?

They will probably illustrate their strategy for the next months: price cuts, GTA advertising ans so on. I don't expect new games announcements, as this seems to be an EMEA only event.

Maybe the SKUs are getting enhanced in some fashion? New bundles? Niko Presents The Move Over Ladies GTA4 4UN PAK?

They might first cut the price, then rewind skus later (closer to GTA) like they did last holiday.

I'm guessing :

Xbox 360 Arcade : £149.99
Xbox 360 Pro : £199.99
Xbox 360 Elite : £249.99

Come the release of GTAIV they could just bundle it for an extra £20.

Excellent! Another price drop that may just make me by an 360 Elite. As for Nintendo, they really don't need to drop the price because it is selling bucket loads already and they cannot make enough of them to supply demand now.

Well, they could just issue a press release.
And they will.

Look at their options.

Issue a press release announcing the price cut without telling retail in advance. So the price has dropped, but it's not advertised in any of the circulars and retail is likely to be grouchy about not getting a heads-up that a major product was dropping in price so they could capitalize on it quicker (or be prepared for it).

Issue a press release announcing the price cut that is coming a few weeks out, so retail has time to prepare. And kill sales during the interim.

Tell retail in advance, hope they don't leak it and have a press conference closer to the actual price cut. This is the approach most often taken because it's good have a price cut suppoted with advertising and good to give retail partners advance notice of such moves.

I'd be amazed if they took the arcade down to £149.99. Time will tell though.
I'm also curious if they are going to do another asymmetrical price cut. The last one had different cuts on all three SKUs, with the Core getting the smallest.

And yeah, cutting the price on the wireless adapter and HDD would be nice!

They need to price drop the price of the Wi-fi adapter or have it built in the next model. The adapter costs $99 in the US...

Here's a strange way to look at it:

MS knows, one way or another, they're going to be getting 50M back from R* in the next year. If they drop the price $50, that 50M, will subsidize the first 1M consoles sold from the price drop. Effectively, MS just shuffled their money around. They secured exclusive content from R* AND subsidized 1M consoles being sold at $50 less.

Umm. Were is the US price cut? You know...the place were the cut would make the most impact.

that's debatable. thanks to steady good sales in NA, MS is prob hesitant to lower prices now, esp when they are making money on h/w.

come GTA4 time, we'll likely see a price cut in NA.

Perhaps this is more some gut instinct than anything based on substantiated fact, but it appears more and more likely to me that Microsoft's lethargy in the early parts of this year, while poorly managed, is an unfortunate consequence of their attack strategy beginning in late March.

I'm not talking about the poor SKU management resulting in shortages, either. That's a debacle all of its own. I'm talking about the relatively low profile and lack of advertising. I expect an explosion of promotions and advertisement, with a price cut, and with GTA IV leading the way. Microsoft doesn't need to explain and sell the DLC precisely -- it just needs to convince prospective system purchasers that the 360 version of GTA IV is the "definitive version."

you make it sound as if late march and "gta4 time" are decades apart.

One french retailer took the price of the Arcade down to 229 euros, about £175. £169 wouldn't be a bad price I guess.

It will be interesting to see how much effect a price cut has outside the UK. It done wonders for the PS3, lets see what it does for the 360.

European price cut (exchange rate correction) + GTA4 bundle, with custom faceplate, cladding, and controller. They're serious about owning GTA this time.

The PS3 had pent up demand when they cut the price... I don't think the 360 does.

Gamestation were offering the Arcade for £150 for a few weeks in January. I honestly don't see £150 as out of the question. A £150 "street price" after retailer discounts and value added bundles, at the very least.

If the rumor that the PS3 is killing them in Europe over the last few months is true, they need to drop the price by a lot, and do it like. . . now.

In less than a year, the PS3 has almost completely taken away the pricing advantage that the 360 used to have.

Yup. Microsoft needs to open up the price gap again, and a small cut, like they did last year, won't do it. I'm expecting a cut along the same lines, but it's nowhere near what they need.

The fact that there will be a press conference suggests to me more than a simple regional price cut, maybe a global one? It must be in the works for GTA afterall.

£50 = $100.......

Obviously the retailers are just wrong and the Press Conferance is to announce the discontinuation of all current SKUs in favor of a new SKU that comes in black or white w/ a 250gb HDD, Built in Wifi, and HDMI for $199, or £130(?)! MS wins.

We can dream right? :(

Is that the actual differance in currency?(I have no clue tbh) but if it's equivelant to a $100 price drop in the U.s that's huge..... that would put the Arcade under $200..... I'm pretty sure being able to say "Play GTA IV on a console that's half the price and also has DLC!" would be insanely helpful for pushing out consoles..... even if they conveniantly leave out the fact that the DLC will require a HDD. (then again maybe they'll drop the HDD price and they'll sell a fuckton of those in november when the DLC comes out.)

Why didn't MS see it earlier? I'm sure your average consumer would much rather have all those frivolous things than a cheap games machine

You both caught me before my edit :( Anyways $199 is still pretty cheap if you ask me :P

and realisicly I don't see a huge drop in HDDs coming anytime soon..... unless they close the price gap between the consoles as well, why buy anything but an Arcade if the Arcade +HDD of choice is cheaper then the Prem/Elite?

Yer the £ is worth about $2 right now, everyone is clamouring to get to the states to buy suitcases full of stuff

Street price, for sure, but as I said, I'd be amazed if MS reduce it to £149.99 as this would mean more like £129.99 retail.

It took me some time to dig this thread up... but:

According to Dutch retailers(E-Plaza, Bart Smit etc.) the Arcade will drop 80 euro in price and the premium will hit the 299 pricepoint on 14 March!

Arcade €199,-
Premium €299,-
Elite €399,-

The Wii costs €249,99 and the PS3 €399,99
The Xbox 360 will be cheaper than the Wii

That's a pretty nice pricing, but there is still no justification as to why the Elite should cost 100 more euros than the premium, or even arcade -> premium.
199 / 249 / 299 would be pretty much perfect for the time being.

I think it has to do with the PS3 price, the Elite is MS answer against PS3. While the PS3 has 40 Gig, the Elite has 120, headset, HD cables etc..

I think they will lower the Elite, when Sony lowers their PS3 price.

What are the Premium and Elites priced at now?

You know, my district has recently seen a surge in stock across all SKUs...

The PS3 saw a similar surge when they had the 40 GB for 399 and you get a 40 dollar gift card... I sure hope it's true, sales on the system have been kind of stagnant.

Okay, so the price drops are:

Arcade - €80
Elite - €50
Premium - €50

Strange. It's as if they are going for the Wii market more than their online one.

I suppose that translates to a likely price of $199 for the Arcade, $299 for the Premium and $399 for the Elite. They should do a flat $80 drop accross the board, but it's something.
