Eh, no.
If you play an older FPS, for example, and start whining that it doesn't play like Halo, then you're an idiot. Halo didn't exist then, so of course it doesn't. If you're going to play an older game, appreciate it for what it is instead of bitching and moaning that it isn't something else, which is childish and silly.
A shitty game released now is... well, it's shitty. However, a game released now that plays like a FPS before Halo had its impact on the genre could still be a lot of fun, if well-designed. The problem here is that so many people believe a game can't be well-designed if it doesn't play like a modern game, which is nonsense. You're equating playing an older game with playing a shitty, poorly-designed game, which is pretty telling.
I can go back and enjoy a FPS like Blood even today. Some people would whine and complain. "Oh god, look at how weird everything looks when you try to look up and down!" Yeah, that's how the game is and has always been.
If you're incapable of playing an older game and enjoying it for what it is, then I'm sorry. It seems that's the way most of GAF is. That sucks for you. I regularly play games from the NES era for the first time and enjoy them. I do the same thing for PS1 and PS2 games.
