Rumour | Ninja Theory to Quit Console Development? [Up: Nope]

DmC was a good game, unfortunately it wasn't a good DMC game. I personally believe DmC would be better off as a new IP (I don't know how possible that was though).

They pissed off too many fans who decided to just not buy the game. I don't blame fans for that.

Really hope this isn't true. DmC was just all right, but I really loved what they did with Enslaved. Been hoping to see more games like that from Ninja Theory.

The idea that people are actually happy about this is ridiculous.

You were never forced into buying their games in the first place if you didn't like them, it's not like you're gaining anything out of this. It just means people will be losing their jobs, and those that did like their games don't get to play them anymore. So... hooray, I guess.

I enjoyed Heavenly Sword and Enslaved. Both games weren't free of flaws and the occasional disappointment but they were satisfying and memorable to me.
DMC is on my backlog, but I would be sad to see them go in a direction that doesn't interest me. The hate for them on GAF always struck me as unwarranted. That's probably because I haven't been a big fan of Devil May Cry, so they haven't offended me by changing it.

So much salt from Devil May Cry fans in this thread.

It's obviously not just about DmC. Heavenly Sword and Enslaved were not that well received. They underperformed for an entire generation, why should anyone be surprised if they want to go in a different direction?

I read the whole Edge article and looked at the job postings they just put up and remain confused at Edge's statement, unless they meant in a 10 year out sense.

I'll leave this open as is though and just make a thread lambasting Edge's increasingly poor journalism if this turns out wrong.

I mean half the article is about Steambox. It's certainly mobile positive in a "I'm throwing a lot at this," way, but it reads more like Peter Moore's "all our franchises will have free 2 play" comment.

I used to call myself a DMC fan. DMC3 is one of my favorite games ever made. The runup to DmC's launch made it obvious to me that, no. You're not a DMC fan. Just the concentrated amounts of hate for a game that in my opinion is far superior to Capcom's own last attempt in DMC4. I will never understand this.

Simply because Capcom hired them to work on a dead franchise in hopes of reviving it.

Any time a Ninja Theory thread pops up a whole bunch of adults start acting like children. It's sad.

DMC was nowhere near dead or needed any sort of rejuvenation. It's was one of Capcom's biggest franchise and the previous entry before DmC, DMC4, sold the most in the entire series. Dead franchise my ass, if its dead now its because of Ninja Theory and Capcom wanting to westernize shit.

Would be a serious shame to lose them. They've made some of the most enjoyable games I've played on PS3 the past few years.

Really thought they had a PS4 game coming seeing as they were confirmed as working on it at the feb announcement in the dev video... or so I thought :(

The comments in this thread make me feel like I was one of very few people to really enjoy the games they made, both Enslaved and DMC were really great and stunningly beautiful games for their times.

Shame.

I loved every bit of DmC and Heavenly Sword. Enslaved not so much, but may give it a second go on PC.

If they ditch console/PC gaming I'd be bummed.

I don't really see why everyone bitches about NT for 'ruining' DMC. For one, the game was apparently pretty great, for two, they were just fulfilling a brief they were given by Capcom. Capcom wanted a change of direction, a more 'edgy' protagonist, etc.

Maybe one of their U4 projects was canned? We'll know soon enough as someone from NT will react to all this hoopla if it's not true.

yaaaay :')

But I really am sad to see them gone, I was excited to find out what their new project was, with the cute blue haired girl.

:C

I wonder what Rahni Tucker will do next, hope she won't go mobile as well, she's a talented combat designer

If you look at the numbers the man has a point. I mean Xbone needed to crash and burn, but MS was right that a digital only future is the only way to sustain the AAA model. Of course, going AA with creative ideas may be smarter then going mobile, but still.

I hope it's not true. Enslaved and DmC were immensely enjoyable and I looked forward to seeing where they would go next on the PS4.

And wow at the amount of people here taking joy in this news. A developer downsizing to solely make mobile games and all the job losses that go with it is not a good thing. Some of you are really pathetic.

Yeah they will likely have both massive layoffs and announcements very soon for that scale of switch.

They act like a $60 console game is the only option. They can price their game at damn well whatever they want. They could make a $10 game, sell it on PSN and gamestop would put the digital version on the shelf like they have for many other games already, so they'd still get store presence.

How about a freemium game? That's totally possible too, we already have free games with microtransactions on the PS4 and it only just launched.

If they insist on mobile only, that's fine, I won't be buying them, but that's fine. But don't act like there aren't other options on consoles because there's plenty.

hope this isn't true. as someone who has only played the superior pc ports of their games without the much talked about framerate issues on consoles, I really like NT

Interesting that they are complaining about the AAA games model.

Who said you HAVE to make only AAA titles? You can make smaller indies or smaller budget games.

See ya tameem, I'll always keep those words you shit talked to people at heart.
I thought NT was pulling some money from its mocap studio though?

It's not like $60 games is their only option. They can make PC games that cost half of that or even F2P games.

But good luck with the mobile development, I guess?

And yeah, I don't think Sony will want to have anything to do with them anytime soon after the disaster that was HS. And I hope Sony stay away from that stinker for good.

What the fuck are you even talking about? DMC4 sold amazingly well, they took a series from its peak to its worst in one strike
