I must have missed this event.

SATURDAY AM: I'm told heavy traffic for Rush Hour 3 unofficially generated between $18.4 and $18.9 million Friday from 3,778 theaters. New Line Cinema is claiming the pic did $19.1 mil, but no other studio has figures that high for it.
The action buddy comedy is on track at the box office to generate $55 mil this weekend as my box office gurus predicted. But this means the poorly reviewed movie, directed by Brett Ratner and starring Jackie Chan and Chris Tucker, won't do as well as Rush Hour 2, which in 2001 opened to $67.4 mil (and went on to make $226.1 domestic and $347.3 worldwide). Other problems for the troubled studio is that the film went wildly overbudget and set a new Hollywood salary high. Tucker earns $20 million against 20% of gross, and his deal comes with a second-picture commitment for the same salary on a film to be determined later.
Chan gets around $15 million against 15% of gross, but he also owns the film's distribution rights in China and Hong Kong. Ratner gets a jump on the upfront part of the $5 million-against-5% gross deal he had on "Rush Hour 2." And screenwriter Jeff Nathanson is paid seven figures. How can the studio make money when it gives away 40% of the gross?
Not really .. The movie cost $140 million.bill0527 said:It took in 19.1 million on opening day. They're predicting a $60 million haul for the weekend. Brett Ratner gets the last laugh.

Chan doesn't get to benefit on that distribution stuff since China's not allowing it to be released.Ripclawe said:

- It's the worst of the three Rush Hours

Just saw Rush Hour 3 for the first time and it is bad. Really bad. Much worse than I thought it would be. Predictable jokes, flat scenes and the two main actors looking like they're bored. The series never was that good but I didn't expect such a lackluster experience. Most of the 'babes' were ugly too. WTH? Couldn't they have done that last part right at the very least?
The two good things about the movie is Jackie Chan is still doing many of his stunts and I thought they had some nice shots of Paris, but that's it.
Instigator said:X-men 3 was definitely better than Rush Hour 3.

Also, a shitty movie > sitting at home.

I screamed No! in the theater when the trailer played a few years ago, but it was covered by the sound of orgasms from teens and dumbass tweens.

Simply can't judge a movie unless you see it. You can THINK it'll suck, but it's lame to act like someone is stupid for seeing it. I love going to the movies just for the hell of it.
LaneDS said:For whatever reason, when Grandma's Boy was being advertised years ago it sounded like the most unfunny film ever made. I caught bits and pieces of it last month at a friend's house, and you're right, it's hysterical. I blame terrible marketing on that movie getting a bad rap.

Shit, I even rented "The Tuxedo."
