That's a smaller raw opening gross than Rush Hour 2 had six years ago. I'm too lazy to figure out the adjusted number.

Yeah but its an incredible number for a movie that has been critically panned, has a joke for a director, and has been a long time by Hollywood standards since the last installment.

SATURDAY AM: I'm told heavy traffic for Rush Hour 3 unofficially generated between $18.4 and $18.9 million Friday from 3,778 theaters. New Line Cinema is claiming the pic did $19.1 mil, but no other studio has figures that high for it.

The action buddy comedy is on track at the box office to generate $55 mil this weekend as my box office gurus predicted. But this means the poorly reviewed movie, directed by Brett Ratner and starring Jackie Chan and Chris Tucker, won't do as well as Rush Hour 2, which in 2001 opened to $67.4 mil (and went on to make $226.1 domestic and $347.3 worldwide). Other problems for the troubled studio is that the film went wildly overbudget and set a new Hollywood salary high. Tucker earns $20 million against 20% of gross, and his deal comes with a second-picture commitment for the same salary on a film to be determined later.

Chan gets around $15 million against 15% of gross, but he also owns the film's distribution rights in China and Hong Kong. Ratner gets a jump on the upfront part of the $5 million-against-5% gross deal he had on "Rush Hour 2." And screenwriter Jeff Nathanson is paid seven figures. How can the studio make money when it gives away 40% of the gross?

That is what I call good work by the agents.

It took in 19.1 million on opening day. They're predicting a $60 million haul for the weekend. Brett Ratner gets the last laugh.

Not really .. The movie cost $140 million.

In comparison:

Rush Hour
Budget: $33 million
Domestic Gross: $141,186,864

Rush Hour 2
Budget: $90 million
Domestic Gross: $226,164,286

Rush Hour 3
Budget: $140 million
Domestic Gross: $??,???,???

I'd highly doubt if this sh*t of a movie can even reach the gross of the second one. So yeah, Ratner has a long way to go before having his last laugh. For now, he'll have to do with playing a second fiddle playing judge on 'On the lot'. :lol

Saw it. Better than the second but not as good as the first imo. Firmly in the average category. Chan and Tucker are quite appealing as usual but the plot is dumb (the worse of the three) and Ratner is such a mediorce director he brings it down.

Chan doesn't get to benefit on that distribution stuff since China's not allowing it to be released.

Well, there's still Hong Kong, but yeah Rush Hour 3 didn't make the cut of the allowed limited foreign movies released in mainland China.

What does the "against 20% of gross" actually mean?

im guessing he gets whichever is higher, hes guaranteed 20mil but if the movie makes over 100mil he gets 20% of gross

After sleeping on it, my thoughts on the movie are:

- It's the funniest of the three
...
- It's the worst of the three Rush Hours

?

I personally watch this franchise for the laughs... for me, the story is there simply to facilitate hilarious Tucker quips and odd black guy/asian dude chemistry. The movie surpassed my expectations in that regard as we found ourselves laughing practically throughout.

I had a great time and found it worth the $.

The movie is pretty bad, I just came back from theater. It had a few laughes, the only way I can finish watching this is not thinking about the plot and logic. Just treat it like a SNL show, bits and parts put together, some time has a few funny lines. Don't expect anything more.

Saw the film yesterday and came away with certainly a few laughs but certainly a feeling it wasn't nearly as good as the first two films.

I had seen Rush Hour 2 just a few days ago and that still provided plenty of laughs. This as already said seems a werid assortment of scenes and story, pieced together.

Couple of points of notice- Okay I understand Chan is much older now (And it's beggining to show) but the action was certainly a few notches down from the first two films. The action in general really seemed to be tonned down a degree.

It was def leave your brain at home kind of stuff with the scene
Where Chan and Tucker fly from the Efiel Tower all the way down to "Lamars" who just happens to be waiting for them with the girl
. All very cringe worthy stuff.

Plus the English from Sueyang and the other girl was awful.

And chan speaking japanese...

Just saw it. Enjoyed it as it had a lot of laughs. Don't think it's as good as the first two and there were a few unresolved plotlines (
where did Youki Kudoh's character come from?
), but still enjoyable.
So Inspector Lee speaks fluent Japanese eh?

LTTP or maybe I should have missed it.

Just saw Rush Hour 3 for the first time and it is bad. Really bad. Much worse than I thought it would be. Predictable jokes, flat scenes and the two main actors looking like they're bored. The series never was that good but I didn't expect such a lackluster experience. Most of the 'babes' were ugly too. WTH? Couldn't they have done that last part right at the very least?

The two good things about the movie is Jackie Chan is still doing many of his stunts and I thought they had some nice shots of Paris, but that's it.

LOL - odd bump, but I agree. Rush Hour 3 is like the definition in movie school of how to build a movie to milk off of when there isn't anything left. Traitor swerve! Unlikely hero who had nothing to do with the plot (taxi driver), with over exaggerated appreciation! It's perfect. It's like the ultimate cash cow movie EVER.

My friends dragged me to see this movie when it came out last year despite the fact that I really really didn't want to see it. It was so god awful, and I didn't understand why my friends wanted to waste their precious time over this shitty ass movie.

How exactly are they supposed to know if they're going to dislike the movie? The first two were good.

Also, a shitty movie > sitting at home.

Reviews!

I screamed No! in the theater when the trailer played a few years ago, but it was covered by the sound of orgasms from teens and dumbass tweens.

Grandma's Boy got shit reviews and it's hilarious.

Simply can't judge a movie unless you see it. You can THINK it'll suck, but it's lame to act like someone is stupid for seeing it. I love going to the movies just for the hell of it.

For whatever reason, when Grandma's Boy was being advertised years ago it sounded like the most unfunny film ever made. I caught bits and pieces of it last month at a friend's house, and you're right, it's hysterical. I blame terrible marketing on that movie getting a bad rap.

I would put this in the same vein as Transporter 3...edge given to Transporter 3 in terms of fail. Way too many damned garbage dialogue scenes, not nearly enough car chases or action in general.

It's got a huge college cult following now, I think.

Whaddaya expect here!? Fuckin Shakespear? It's a buddy comedy with a black dude and an Asian dude. Chan flips around screen, tucker biggs his eyes out and hilarity is the result. You know what your getting when u go see these kind of movies. So enjoy it for what it's worth.

Finally seen this the other day, liked the first 2, this one was eh, Jackie Chan walks like a cowboy and you can see all the wire work (not actual wires but you know)........ just meh over all.
