Most American liberals tend to hate America more than any other country.

Do you realize how utterly absurd this sounds? They choose to live, pay taxes and raise their children there, yet hate it more than anywhere else? Like they just couldn't get the North Korean visa to clear?

You're confusing not being a knee-jerk nationalist with hate.

This is kind of like saying Oprah's ratings are surging. It really doesn't matter since he's been on top since the first day.

I always thought the formula was basically that most Conservatives listen to Rush while most liberals listen to NPR.
unscientific of course

I just started listening to him this month when they added him to my radio. He's actually pretty entertaining. I listen to him on the way to work, where I listen to the BBC World Service.

As in haha interesting, or as in he makes a good point interesting. This is crucial! ;)

We don't hate the country, we hate completely oblivious citizens that say stupid things like, gee I dunno, "Most American Liberals tend to hate america more than any other country" and stuff like that. It's not hate, either. It's more pity or aggravation.

Right now, for me, it's pity, but if Trent keeps posting nonsense then it'll turn into aggravation. I guess you can blame that on my "bleeding heart" whatever that means.

I haven't listened to him since the early 90's. So I am pretty stunned to see him growing in every market and especially in Democrat strongholds. I think his show is unlistenable. But maybe this is a reflection of the wasteland that radio has become versus anything he may be doing on his program.

Meh, just the byproduct of idiots and their two party system.

Obama promised them candy! They did not get candy. Sign them up with the other party that promises cake.

They don't have cake.

Good going, Rush. I'm a big fan of your show.

I'll stomach a few minutes of his show here and there. The show is usually relatively banal; Rush takes quotes from a few dozen newspapers or television shows and tacks on some shallow commentary. His political commentary influences millions of people, and knowing what these people are sucking down really puts some perspective on the national dialog.

If you were forced(like at gunpoint) to listen to either Rush or Sean Hannitty.. who would you choose?
Hannity is just the safe version of Rush. He parrots everything Limbaugh says, but doesn't have the "power" get away with more controversial statements. Which is actually more annoying to me.

To keep my sanity I have to believe Rush Limbaugh is just spewing most of his bullshit because he knows that's what the audience wants. If there was money in liberal talk radio, I'm sure he would soften his approach by a hell of a lot. Too bad liberal talk radio has always been a complete failure for some reason.

Easily Rush. Rush is actually a pretty good entertainer. His hearing loss has allowed him to be patient with listeners rather than talking over them.

Rush is ten times more honest than Hannity who's values are based entirely on what the Party & Jesus thinks at a particular time.

Rush has no real interest in mixing religion and politics and his opinions are his own. He has openly criticized Reublican decisions.

However, he hates & makes fun of liberals with such a passion it makes his show funnier than Hannity even if his views are still a bit sad.

The left doesn't have as cohesive a theme for what it means to be liberal. In fact, the word is almost a pejorative term in politics. Meanwhile, the right can proudly boast of good, old-fashioned conservative values. The word has become almost synonymous amongst those who lean that way as the ideology that is the embodiment of the American spirit.

Anyhoo, I don't really care about Rush or his success aside from the fact that it represents what I hate about discourse in this country that is fueled by the talking heads from either side. Reasoned debate takes a back seat to feel-good cheerleading that assumes that any issue -- new or old -- can be broken into a binary choice between two extremes where the correct one was already decided once and for all at some indeterminate time in the past.

Compare the quality of the two and you have a stunning indictment of American conservatives.

Although I don't actually think he's a bed wetting Republican (Much more Libertarian), he is very far from liberal. He just matches his ideals with the the leading party that goes along with them which would be the Republican Party.

BTW, I think Hannity is much more dangerous than Rush

Hannity is a fucking assclown that just parrots whatever the Republican party talking points of the day are. Rush is much more creative than this at least.

Either way, the best political talk radio these days is Dan Carlin's Common Sense Podcast. Fantastic non-partisan podcast.

His show is actually really good even though lots of the things he says are either complete BS or slight distortions of the truth. It's essentially a three-hour daily troll on the major news outlet and Democratic leaders. There is an entire vocabulary and set of inside jokes that are long-running that makes it so funny I think. You certainly have to listen critically though. The Daily Show and Colbert Report are so funny b/c they poke fun at and lampoon Republicans, they are also somewhat inocuous whereas Rush also comes with a heavy dose of partisian rhetoric that you have to be able to shield yourself from.

Edit: Kudos to Dan Carlins Common
Sense too ^^

That's why he's more dangerous. He parrots the Party, but unlike most, he can flat out lie (or to be fair strongly imply) to back up his points since he's not a real reporter and then cut anybody off that questions him.

Rush is at least smart enough to use actual quotes from liberals and make it clear it's his opinion and others just happen to agree with it.

I lean way to the right and even I can't stand Sean Hannity. He's intolerable.

"Alright let's go to Katie in Iowa, Katie welcome to the program."

"Thanks Sean! I love your show, and you're a great American!"

"Thanks Katie you're a great American."

"Thanks! So anyway I was thinking, Obama said yesterday..."

Hannity cuts her off. "Yes I've been saying that all day. He hates freedom AND liberty. Katie stay on the line and we're gonna send you a copy of my book and tickets to my country music concert. Thanks for the call."

So True!

Rush's Big Apple listenership is now estimated at 693,000

Los Angeles, KFI-AM has surged into the number one position (all listeners 12 and older) from 9am to noon, with 618,000 listeners

from 5.2 share to 6.9 and a total local listenership of 396,700 in the third-largest market.

Rush's performance on WJR-AM has been more significant than ever, moving into first place with a 5.8 to 9.6 jump. Men 35-64: number one and 11.6 share. Total audience: 253,000.

wow at these numbers, how's radio making any money with the tiny audience?

Dude that is way more than most TV shows get. American Idol gets 30 million. Rush gets 20 million a week. Most TV shows aren't even close to that.

Radio hosts are only actually talking for about 1/2 hour out of every hour. The amount of ads is ridiculous. Plus, it's not like he's doing the morning or afternoon drive time. He's on when everyone is getting into work or getting lunch (depending on where in the country you're talking about).

For his timeslot, those are probably amazing numbers.

Oh man....nailed it. I can't stand that guy.

Once you have watched Hannity contorting into ridiculous shapes and forms trying his hardest to fit it in his little box of Republican Party truisms, you can't undo the brain damage and mental trauma.

I'll admit, I listen to Rush when I'm doing a long drive or just in the afternoon when I'm in the car. The way these people twist the facts and contradict themselves almost daily - and how the audience either accepts it, or calls in and gets labelled as "the enemy" - it just makes for an interesting look into how this mob mentality stuff works.

Glenn Beck, though, I can't stand to watch him. The guy is just straight crazy.

Rush is the most tolerable of all the talk shows that are on when I'm in the car.

Michael Savage - total nutcase. To the right of the far right.

Dr. Laura - as I said yesterday - a grade-A bitch and total fucking cunt. Why anyone calls her asking for advice is beyond me. She ALWAYS turns it around so that whatever particular problem a person has.. it was their own damn fault and she finds a way to tell the caller in an incredibly insulting fashion.

Hannity - just seems to repeat the same crap every day. "These liberals OMG !! Its unbelievable, just unbelievable". Count how many times he says the word 'unbelievable' in one broadcast. You'll need more hands.

Beck - haven't listened to him much, don't really care to. His voice is like nails on a chalkboard to me. I can't stand him and I don't know anything about him, other than he's another one that's to the right of the far right.

Rush has always been in a shit load of markets. Something like 250, I think. So, those (relatively) small numbers add up. I just didn't know they were that small.

On the other end, Howard at his height had...30 (?) markets? With about the same audience as Rush, but divided up less.

So yeah, those local listeners add up, quick.

Is he the one who calls anyone on the left a Leninist or bolshevik?

I remember hearing a radio show for a few days while on a weird schedule (for me) where this conservative talk show host would rant and rant using those words.

Michael Savage is the old man who does crazy old man ramblings and ravings on his show, but I think he mostly uses "pinko Commie". There only other one I know of that could fit the bill is Mark Levin.

The Glenn Beck radio show is just weird. He's always giggling w/his producer like little girls. It's basically one long ad for his Fox TV show. "Watch tonight when I talk about...blah blah"

Hannity is the worst. I kind of get what people would see in Limbaugh, he has a unique sense of humor about certain things. Beck is a clown and is self-depricating.

Hannity has none of that. He actually calls people 'great Americans' with a straight face. He has no sense of humor or irony. He makes Steven Colbert's parody look like a limp wristed liberal. He's cartoonish.
