Russell Brand vs Fox News

He's actually a very intelligent and well-spoken personality. I don't agree with him on everything, but he does make good points on many topics.

That was my takeaway having only known him briefly. Was surprised by this. That said, is he everywhere or something? People in this thread make it sound like hes over saturated himself. But I honestly haven't seen much of him in years.

I used to didn't care for Brand. That changed when this feud started. Brand is just straight up destroying Fox News.

I can't and never will take him seriously... Would be nice if I could go anywhere online and not see his face pushed on me for a day.

He's been doing some amazing work with the trews, it makes a nice change for people to use their celebrity status to educate people on this sort of stuff. I've followed his career since he did re:brand? I think that's what it's called and it's always been disheartening to see people dismiss him because he's said a few silly things and slept around. He's a really smart and funny guy. Pin pin.

Not a fan of his films, but I do love that he's tried to make a voice and raise arguments for wanting a more equal and loving world. My opinion's really changed of him since his Newsnight interview, which was probably the first major "outing" of his criticism of the frameworks we have in society.

I'm surprised there hasn't been a large anti-Fox News movement by now. They're extremely harmful to the nation when you really think about it.

They are, but a good enough percentage of people believe Fox to be the light of truth. The other half honestly treat it as a joke. Nothing you can do about it either way.

And yeah, bashing Fox is kind of like shooting fish in a barrel but I'd rather that people with influence on the young continue to do it just so that there are potentially fewer brainwashed folks somewhere down the line. He's never going to change the mind of people that already watch Fox News so it's probably pretty irreverent that they are making fun of him there anyways.

AS someone who watched Big Brother at the time he hosted Big Mouth, I'm finding it extremely hard to comprehend how a random American news host would be an avid follower of the programme.

I'm trying to think of how to describe it in an American context...

Okay, try this: You may recall that there was a tie-in for the Who Shot Mr. Burns Simpsons episode where they ran a mock (live-action, studio) 'America's Most Wanted' sort of programme on the case. Imagine watching and enthusing over that programme without any context of The Simpsons.

That's the closest way I can frame a claim to have watched a random British tie-in programme for a reality show.

Yeah, I laughed out loud when he brought up that show. It was a little watched spin-off of a reality show that likely had no audience in the US and wouldn't be relevant to anyone who didn't watch UK Big Brother. What an awful attempt at giving credence to his blatant "and I liked him back in the day" lie.

Never been a fan of his comedy but I like his yt channel. He can be a bit simplistic and idealistic at times but for the most part I agree with his perspective on things. The fox news stuff is funny but lets face it, it's low hanging fruit. I think it would be more useful to go after better targets.

I didn't know he had a YT channel. Gonna have to subscribe.

I like Brand, occasionally he goes a little overboard and loses me, but for the most part, we're on the same page. Sorta like with Greg Proops.

Seriously, what the fuck is up with a news channel just riffing off how much they hate a celebrity? It seems so weird and counter productive. Is this the kinda shit I miss out on from not watching Fox News? Does this weirdly sensitive aggressiveness exist on other American news channels?

I don't recall ever seeing any horseshit like this on CBC or CTV.

It is low hanging fruit. But yet it still hangs. It is like shooting fish in a barrel. Yet too few people in Brands position, where he could just enjoy his wealth and bang infinite women whilst staying quiet, shoot them.

Good for him.

Ex-crackhead multi-millionaire sitting on YouTube in his fucking mansion, railing against "the system" and promoting revolution and anti-capitalism. Hilarious. He is possibly the most hypocritical champagne socialist there has ever been.

You didnt watch the video did you?

You pretty much quoted Fox News with your post and Brand responds calmly to their similar 'lol ex crackhead' claims

I love the idea that because someone's had substance abuse issues and may or may not be rich, they don't have the ability to rail against a system that inherently keeps other people down.

Also, as has already been mentioned, this has been addressed.

I think they dislike him because they used to think like him. They were once kids (in college perhaps) that thought they could change the world. Now they're stuck behind a newsdesk and want to tell people how things are.

I don't know if they realize by playing this cat and mouse game they're giving him way more exposure than he would have gotten.

i've enjoyed him far more after starting to watch the trews. dude makes good points, and fox news is complete fucking trash.

I really like Russel's fluency, he's really nice to listen to and his points are often very easy to pick out and criticize. It's even better that he often does it outside echo boxes and with lots of hand gesturing, i have always admired that kind of dialogue.

It's unbelievable how constantly Fox News puts out such putrescence.

Big Fox fan are we?

He's not an ex-crackhead he's a recovering heroin addict. The rest of your post is not even worth talking about because you're way off.

Fish in a barrell, indeed.

I seriously dont get how Fox News is allowed on TV. It's like some fascist wet dream come true.

you didn't even watch any of the videos did you

Count me as another subscriber to his channel. I like his message and the way he presents it.

Colbert, Stewart, Maher, Maddow, and perhaps this guy. There seems to be a fair amount of liberal voices but it seems Fox News and the far right are winning the "war".

Get this out of here. Maher's an idiot when an issue isn't strictly partisan. He champions science but he tows the party line on GMO's despite the science being pretty clear there.

lol @ baseless character attacks

that gets you nowhere on this forum.

I'm continually amazed that something like Fox News can still exist in a developed nation. Every clip I see from them is either racist, sexist or blatant lies and propaganda.

Russel Brand in contrast makes great arguments every time I've seen him lately. Seems like most people can't really find flaws in his arguments so instead they go after his character, which is easier to target.

Was gonna say the same thing. Completely boggles the mind that Fox News is a thing.

As a Brit who's used to Brand for years now, I've grown to like him a lot more over the last few years in particular. Don't care for him as an actor though.

You do realize he brings this up in the video itself, right?

Once again, attacking the individual rather than any points he has made.

I'm beginning to notice a trend in the detractors of his arguments. Maybe you won't look so foolish and speak such reactive nonsense if you, ya know, actually are forced to respond to what he is saying.

I see the same thing.

Great video. Fox News is an embarassment to mankind.

Hey Fox.

He's exaggerating a bit when he says they're "threatened" or "scared" but they definitely took the time to drag his name through the mud as much as possible, even resorting to mentioning the way he broke up with Katy Perry and how much "Arthur" sucked.

But maybe this is standard fair for Fox News, I never really watch any of their crap so I wouldn't know. Some of those clips showing how extremely racist their reporting can get made my jaw drop even though I know of their reputation.
For the kind of opressive, slanted corporate-ass-licking, conservative media that Fox is, it is pretty usual to attack the person with everything they've got, no matter how petty, irrelevant and downright laughable it is to the question in hand ("this guy made a bad movie once, clearly he's a baboon who can't know anything about social issues"). Liberal media doesn't necessarily attack the person with such trivial nonsense, they bring up facts like "this person who supports climate change denial directly benefits from the success of oil industry, so his objectivity is in question"

Hannity is insufferable. If you removed all the name calling and bullying that he does on his show, there'd be nothing left over.

So a dumb far left cunt against dumb far right wing cunts. * To be fair to the Fox News nutjobs Russel might be more extremist.

True.

True.

Once again, failure to respond to the points being raised, instead opting to attack the individual making the arguments.

Yup, now it's a statistical trend. You guys are so fucking predictable

I'm continually amazed that something like Fox News can still exist in a developed nation. Every clip I see from them is either racist, sexist or blatant lies and propaganda.

In fairness, the internet does a fine job of filtering and posting only the worst examples. Also, it has a daily average viewership of 1-2 million, in a country of over 300 million. The cable audience is relatively small, and the people running Fox know darn well that they don't have to be liked by most people to be incredibly successful.

I've always just been kind of neutral about him but this changes that. He's very well spoken and makes great points, and I LOVE watching FOX fuckheads lose their shit.

Holy crap at those Fox News clips. "Put down the crack pipe", when referring to the congresswoman.Good lord, is that guy still employed at Fox News?

I searched "fox news crack pipe" and found his name is Eric Bolling. He made that comment about the congresswoman in February 2012.

In January 2013 he became the new host of a program called Cashin' In. He is also still a co-host of another show called The Five.

Based on my cursory investigation, it does not appear that Eric Bolling's racist comments (on more than one occasion) affected his employment or relationship with Fox News.
