Rust Early Access Thread - Rock Out With Your Cock Out

After seeing some of the trello updates, I don't think they have any idea. That being said, it's only Alpha, and now is the time to be messing around with it.
But they are selling it.
I'm enjoying the game for what it is now but I'd like to see a better timeline on what they want to do.
Who will you kidnap next from maddengaf?

Kinda feel like making a "Hotel" of sorts for new players wondering around roads lost. Have a room with a storage box, campfire, furnace, workbench and a sleeping bag with a metal door and a code for just them. Would be a fun project since I really enjoy big builds but I fear it would attract way too many raiders.
I feel like Garry and Co. have made a good effort to tell people not to buy the game and that they're prone to "trying things out".

This for me as well. I don't have any problem with them making such changes to the game, I signed up fully knowing this would be the case.

If you remember, I tried doing something similar with my trading posts a month or so ago... It ended up with a new ladder being placed on top of my building, a blown in front door, and a new skylight. Then after I made repairs people climbed the tower and made the entire top of my "trading post" full of camp fires so from a distance it looked like it was set ablaze.
Just saying, in Rust no good deed goes unpunished.
This happened in the GAF server? damn gaf can be cruel lol

Yep, I made the mistake of advertising it in chat (I also had a box outside with freebies. Extra armor, basic guns, food, hatchets). The goal was to hopefully have others help me refill the crate with stuff for newbies, but even if they didn't I had tons and tons of supplies (I was likely one of the richest single players on the server at the time, I crafted extra stuff for fun as well as lots of drops from nearby rad towns).
Eventually a raiding party of 4 people made their way there. Luckily that wasn't my main house (though as a security precaution, I pretended it was). I had a nearby hidden house with full sets of gear. I went there and killed one while they were still busy raiding before running off again to hide till they left. Even in full kevlar, an M4, and several hundred ammo, I didn't stand a chance against 4 people.
I continued to pretend that was my main house and invited the raiders to stop by any time they wanted a hatchet (from that point on I didn't carry any valuables on me except a hatchet for when I was gathering). The joke was they could have as many hatchets as they wanted if they could find me, and I'd often goad them into it... so for a week I was killed quite often and true to my word, I had a hatchet on me each time for them. Figured if nothing else, I was making them waste bullets on me.
I've attempted to play this a few times now, but finally last night met up with a friend. We were doing pretty well had plenty of food and started making things actually worth keeping. I finally place my first sleeping bag down. Was there a reset on the NeoGAF server over the past five hours? Or was I a victim of the bandits?
If you make it so there are no valuables or whatever, it could be useful.

How? Doors can be locked from the outside?
Doors are either locked or unlocked. If someone tricks you into a locked room, there's not much you can do unless you suicide or have charges.

Mr. Magpie and Cloonz made their first appearance last night. We are ready and willing to work with all factions to create a civilized environment.
Biggest problem/mistake with Rust is the rapid acceleration from Rocks to Guns or Naked to Kevlar. Post-reset in a span of hours people had already climbed the food chain.
The arms race nature of the game - and its rapidity - is a missed opportunity vs. a slower rocks escalating to melee weapons and forcing combat to be more close quarters and intimate for much longer.

The server definitely feels busier which is great, but I agree there have been some puerile conversations going on.
I'm interested in joining up with a larger group, so any "Infamous" GAF crews looking for an extra head? Have mic/mumble.

It's a 50/50 split on those people contributing to those conversations being randoms or being from GAF. There's a good chunk of people from GAF who bring friends who aren't a part of the forum and that also contributes to the problem.
I like to treat the GAF communities warning as the first and only. So if you've warned someone and they keep going, then just let littleworm, possum meat or myself know. Screenshots help.

I think the major think preventing me from getting back in this game is that solo play can get lonely and repetitive. I need to find a small ragtag bunch of loveable misfits to join.

According to others in the server there is a mountain man who may be an NPC? Holy fuck, love Rust.

Can people not crouch to get through windows? I've always been wary of making them. I assume that is what bars or for but it seems kind of useless and a waste of resources.

You can, unless you put the bars up. Then they are secure, though someone can shoot through.
They're good to use to snipe or cover the main entry points or staircases. Makes laying the charges much harder.
