Rust Early Access Thread - Rock Out With Your Cock Out

Nice raid., but what happened at the 5min mark? Seemed they were coming up the stairs behind you.

Finding their 5 C4 at 9m45s, plus with them dying with their upper doors open couldn't have helped them much either. I guess they were trying to move them but caused them to lose the whole base.

That was some weird clipping on that staircase, crouching should normally pass without a problem.

How many GAF groups called truce for that raid?

beautiful

Cave Johnson and his group decided to join the fun, so we were fighting the chinese from their metal doors and Cave's group from the bottom floor where we broke in.

They made some huge mistakes that allowed us to get deep into the base. The layout was really clever, lots of places for them to move around and surprise us.

I'm starting to hit a wall as a loner in Rust....the thought of spawning one more time, just to build up my inventory and home and then get killed and/or raided is almost too much. I still love this game, though...I just wish it wasn't so dependent on playing in groups.

So I'm finally done with exams and project week, which means I have time for gaming again. I think I'll jump into Rust again soon, but I might just wait for the next update/wipe.

How is the server now? More players than before? Lots of "outsiders"? Hostility? When I played ~3-4 weeks ago it was pretty quiet and people were often friendly. I've been following the thread and it seems some pretty big groups have appeared that do lots of raiding and killing...

I play solo most of the time so this all sounds kinda scary :P.

I've been running solo, and Its still possible if you put the time in, but there have been more people on recently (including non-GAF folks), and its getting harder to keep up with some of the fairly large groups going around when on your own. Basically, prepare to be terrified every waking moment you are in the game =)

Otherwise the server has been pretty solid so far, and no issues to talk about. Loot tables are back to default since last you were on maybe.

Fucking brilliant:

Hi,

Thanks for your patience.
Your server has now been cancelled and the payment refunded back onto your card.
Please allow 3-5 working days for this to show in your account.

I'm sure someone can find my post showing when I requested the cancellation.

Looks like a patch just rolled out. 160 MB

Nice, here are the changes: http://playrust.com/6th-feb-update/

Zombies Were Removed

Yep. We did it. We decided we couldn’t hold off any longer. The longer we keep zombies in – the more complaints we’d get about removing them. We are forcing ourselves to deal with it. We are no longer a zombie survival game! They’ve been replaced with red bears and wolves. You hate them. We know. They’re just plugging a gap for now. All will be revvvealed.

Wildlife Was Improved

  • no longer exploitable by walking backwards
  • fears hostile wildlife
  • reacts to gunshots
  • hostile wildlife retreats if it cannot find a path to you
  • wildlife should not jump up and switch to random angles anymore
  • removed white wolf

Resource Objects Were Improved

  • added new models for wood & stone resources
  • wood & stone resources change model to indicate their quantity
  • added another stone resource – contains mostly stone

Other Changes

  • fixed bugs with the level (such as rocks intersecting buildings)
  • the ‘oil tank’ area has been modified with cover
  • workbenches make you craft faster when standing next to them
  • added new player animations
  • improved melee attack animations
  • added locked backpacks and lockpicks test ( off by default )
    • when you die your backpack is locked for everyone else but you for a time
    • someone else can use a lockpick tool to bypass this time
    • lockpick tools are a default blueprint
    • you can’t use lockpicks on doors
    • the amount of time the backpack is locked for is per-server and can be set to 0
  • footstep sounds will never play the same sound as the one previously played
  • grass textures have been improved

Glad they finally pulled the trigger on the zombies.

Updates sound good. Does this mean GAF server needs to be wiped? Sounds like a good opportunity for me to jump back in.

edit: The "revvvealed" thing in the patch note doesn't seem like a typo. Probably a hint of some sorts for what's to come... Anyone have any ideas?

I was already paranoid when I was playing last time so nothing has changed then :P. Sounds good!

I tell myself not to read the comments. Then I read the comments and I get angry.
I did the same thing. I'm not sure if I'm angry or just really disappointed. I think both.

I'm glad they are taking the zombies out now. The longer they put it off, the harder it would have been to give them up. Can't wait to see what they change things to.

Yeah, and also, one advantage using animals now is that you cant just headshot them anymore with one bullet and get loot.
Hopefully this means getting high-value items will be harder to obtain.
Locked backpacks seems a bit "dumb" though IMHO, i'd rather see locked boxes.

Good question, the update might change the dynamics of the game a bit, so the newcomers will have a harder (or maybe easier?) time obtaining all the stuff.

Locked boxes would be a nice addition as well. It is hard for me to come up with a way to justify locked back packs...

Who has the most to gain from it? People who are strong. Someone early game may luck out and sneak a kill on someone but could be "screwed" out of their goods from the kill... where as professional player hunters will always have lock picks on them so it doesn't effect them.

It doesn't help people who randomly get killed by a random creature (Though if you're playing with a friend, it may screw them out of recovering your gear before you get back and it despawns).

Overall it just seems a really odd design choice.

Server is updated. Rust++ is installed, but not working, so we'll need to wait for the host to update their end.

Locked backpacks are fairly configurable. They make sense as a test to see what kind of options they can add to defer people losing everything in one incident. Especially for newbies.

As for wiping because of the patch, I don't see why we would.

Well, you can't loot backpacks as easy anymore.
You can't loot high-value items as easy anymore from zombies.
Might have changed the amount of sulfur/metal in the valleys with the new rocks containing mostly stones.

They probably are weak points, but it does seem to put newcomers in a bit of a disadvantage.
With zombies you could get great stuff farily quickly and nothing to stop you from looting backpacks either before the update.
Old players will have the benefit of have had an easy time to build up a good base, loot stock and also can craft a bunch of lock-picks right away, while others have to fight a bit more for it.
Though, I don't really care either, wipe or no wipe, your pick.

You should definitely wipe. The removal of zombies for easy farming will make any new players disadvantaged from the outset against any already established player.

Well break time for me. I have the worst luck. Stayed up all night building a base yesterday now it's getting wiped. I understand why but it's frustrating that updates seem to drop the second I put in a ton of work on a build.

?

Did I miss part of the conversation via mumble or something? Sounds like Jay isn't planning a wipe.

jay said he doesn't want to wipe, don't leave yet count!

I'm definitely not for a wipe either.

Wipe or not I'll be back. I can see why people want a wipe. just wish I hadn't spent so much time on it last night.

I like the new mining animations of the wood and stone breaking down little by little. I wanted to see the new animations but I haven't seen anyone in game.

I'm not sure how much patience I have for another wipe, are we doing this every time a small patch comes out? Some of you guys get your bases up and running on the first day and are already stockpiling C4, I can't keep up with that.

Hmm... Just tried getting on, but for some reason I'm unable to see or type any text.

Rust++ fault. Won't be an issue after the wipe happens.

No, unless the patch includes something significant, I'd rather not.

I feel you Bread. I've lost 5 big bases now that I built solo and it is very frustrating but it's not just this server other servers wipe just as often if not more. Just the nature of the game as it is I guess.

I usually take a few days off when the game wipes out of mourning then start playing again when my frustration subsides.

If someone could drop a word once wipe occurs, I'd be most greatful. Love to get back into this game and a fresh gaf wipe is the best time for it.
