Ryse: Son of Rome confirmed for Xbox One

I can't find a direct quote online yet, but the guy on SpikeTV after the press conference said that, due to the interest of the demo they wanted to showcase all the 'executions'. But in the real game it won't be a QTEfest, it'll be more free-attacks.

Quite pretty visually, but I'm a bit skeptical about all that at these kind of presentations. Gameplay's like something from Infinity Blade.

Nothing shown interested me. Main character is a non-descript angry male who wants to stab dudes. Combat looks one-dimensional and QTE-laden. Events look heavily scripted.

Next Gen Lair right here.

Technically proficient developer with a small genre niche they've been successful with, moving to a new genre. Technically strong trailer with weak artistic direction and very questionable gameplay from what we've seen.

1. QTE heavy.
2. Overt "we do this now!" voice work to tell you what to do suggests a painfully linear battlefield, not a "win the battle how you want" scenario.
3. magic spears that just pop into people's hands.
4. art design is painfully uninspired and drab.

such wasted potential... QTEs abound, linear, drab looking.

It's like they took the worst parts of God of War and made them into a game.

Looked nice, riddled with QTEs, and none of the animations / QTEs/ finishing moves really stood out.

Meh.

Also where the hell were they pulling those javelins from?

too scripted and QTEish.

would be more awesome if they gave you more leeway at tackling objectives then being funneled through the ''scripted'' path

Imagine going through a whole game where every fight is a QTE... also that Saving Private Ryan rip off intro.

I really love the setting but this was once a Kinect brawler and it shows.

One day we will get a game as good as Gladius or Shadow of Rome. One day....

Yeah, the animation in this was just bad. Much worse than in last two God of War games. Guess the next gen power doesn't really matter when animation skills are involved.

The 'gameplay' we saw is no surprise knowing that this is Cervat Yerli's 'personal baby'. I would expect something as shallow as it appeared.

Having said that - and this will be praise that Cervat likes the most - the graphics looked very good.

But good graphics don't make a good ga....I don't think Cervat cares.

Disappointing. Graphics looks ok, but nothing more. QTE, holy shit! I was like "seriously!?". EVERY SINGLE ENCOUNTER IS QTE. Bullshit.

If they can make the combat like Dark Souls, or along those lines then this could be great. If they keep it as it is then no thanks.

In the ideal scenario, they just license the engine to a bunch of talented studios. It's not like the best UE3 games were Epic's.

Why do Romans have British accents again?

70 years of film tradition

My two cents
- Grafic looks great
- You can see that it started as a connect game
- QTE in the very first fight made me lose all hope's
- Looks incredibly "overstaged" (if that's a word)
- Marius Titus has to be the most generic roman name I've heard
- I love ancient rome and I really could see me playing such a scripted game if the stories worth it. I don't get my hopes up on that. As a AsoIaF/GoT Fan I asked myself what I would think of this game if that scene were [light Game of Thrones general lore spoilers]
The Sacking of Pyke during the Greyjoy uprising.
and figured I'd be probably all over this game....

I think the name is stupid.

Y is not a letter in the Latin alphabet. I bet there isn't even a good explanation why it's called "Ryse" in the game.

There's actually only like a dozen different names for males in Rome. It's a surprise that they actually got it accurate. Unless you were noble you didn't have more than one or two names.

Things like Caesar or Augustus were nicknames given afterwards. So Caesar is actually Gaius Julius.

Looked awful.

Roman setting clearly just paint, as the PC just one-man-armies everything.

That and the game seems to play itself. QTE QTE QTE. More QTEs in three minutes than Shenmue might have in an hour.
