Ryse: Son of Rome controller layout

I knew it, trigger really is the execution button. Launch feels so far away. Just seeing this gets me excited.

No win button?

That's the focus power button. It basically slows down time. Or as I like to call it, Roman Bullet Time. :)

But I don't imagine it will make the game too easy. it'll just be the thing that you use when you're in a tight spot I'm guessing. I can tell from the button layout I'm going to enjoy this. I wonder if Hero Upgrades play any part in SP. I imagine it does.

Seems to be varied enough. The only thing I don't like is the "stick click" command (especially for running), I never thought it was a convenient input for ingame controls.

I played the game again today (arena mode) and surprisingly I enjoyed it a lot more than the first time I played it a couple of weeks back. The timing of the block takes a bit of time to get used. The game could be pretty fun.

POTIONS WTF

Going all Asterix on this shit.

Seem like an enjoyable game for a week or two, kinda like how I enjoyed Beyond. I would've bought it at launch when Xbox One was supposed to hit this year here in Holland. Will pick it up next year.

Yea, funny enough, that's the one that gets me thinking the most about how I like that, but since you're going to be using that stick mostly for movement anyway, I guess it works, but I can already tell it's the part of combat I'll have to get use to the most.

Want to find the best way to take advantage of it in combat without getting myself into too much trouble.

Only for gladiator mode, it seems. To gain HP back in the SP, you have to get a decent enough success rate on an execution

Yea, I've had that view for awhile, that when everything was better understood or came together, it could end up being quite fun. Even when it looked its worst, I always tried to see the better parts of it, believing a more complete and enjoyable picture would start to form based on the things that I saw and liked most, and so far so good. I'll only know if it lives up to my expectations when I get my hands on it.

Really could have done with this a couple of days ago when I played it. I was just button mashing randomly except for execution moves that were performed by pressing B..

In certain scripted situations I'm guessing, but I hope there is more of a sandbox structure based around it.

Hmm yeah. I wonder what the Kinect voice commands will be like then, if that's still in the game.

EDIT : They got to have a "are you not entertained" taunt :p

So there really is only one combo attack button? As far as I can tell, push attack is a sort of breathing room shove. I‘ve also seen players do a jumping stab so I‘m guessing that‘s run+sword or hold sword. Don‘t think we‘ve seen a quick throw. Either way, no weapon change button, no special moves (LT+y,x,b,a or something), no grapple...not my type of combat system.

It's always weird for me to see action games without strong attacks.

Ryse has that. You hold the X button down to get a heavy attack. There's even a heavy attack for the Shield Push Attack, and there may possibly be more combat modifiers when you enter focus mode.

In the video I posted in the other Ryse thread it also looks like you can use the environments to injure or kill enemies. Before that video, I didn't see anything like that.

Yep, I'm just now noticing that people apparently didn't know this. That's pretty surprising. It was first shown at E3 when one of the devs did an extended combat demonstration.

There are many executions that are context sensitive based on where you and the enemies are positioned in the environment. People initially thought that all you could ever do was kick enemies from high up locations, but there's that and quite a bit more. You can slam your shield down on an enemy's throat causing them to drown in deep enough watere. You can force opponents into burning flames, setting them entirely on fire after running them through with your sword. You can knock enemies onto spikes, impaling them. There's over 100 possible executions according to Crytek.

You wouldn't happen to know which video that was would you?

This is the first one that showed It.

It gets really good at around 4:22, and then a nice bit of fighting from there on after. This was back during E3 though. And the other videos that showcased the other executions were mostly in the really early and buggy looking MP footage, but at least they helped to show us some of the stuff in the game.
