Ryse gets really weird but the gameplay isn't bad on the high difficulties. I actually think it was scored slightly lower than it deserves, but I didn't pay $60 for it so that probably changes things. I haven't played TO1886 so I can't say whether it's better or worse than Ryse.

Ryse. It's not that bad of a game... it has a bunch of flaws such as repetitive combat and enemy design, but overall it was a fun game to play!
It's funny cause I imagine that both these games were quite mediocre, but they both had so much potential in a continuation! (cause their flaws could easily be fixed in a next game) Sadly I don't see this happening...

Well I played both and Ryse felt like a joke, you run get in the center of the ennemies then I litteraly played with only one hand.
The Order at high difficulty is a bit more challenging and looks better overall.
I got bored playing Ryse about an hour after launching the game but I finished The Order which I think is a pretty good confirmation but it is still a personnal opinion I can also understand peop)le not wanting to dive in a classic TPs and would prefer an easy gory action game.

I know you said you're just starting out with Ryse, but that's actually not entirely true if you play on higher difficulties. I would recommend playing on at least the difficulty above Normal. It can be quite a challenge.
I'm going to go with this option. I haven't the slightest desire to play either. There are simply too many much more interesting games (to me) to spend time on stuff I couldn't give a toss about.

People sure love to get dramatic about The Order, but here's the truth about it:
Story: kinda bad
Bosses: Just pretend it's not happening
Setting: awesome
Graphics: THE FREAKING BEST
Gameplay: average
It's an easy platinum with best in class visuals that's worth the $15 & 6 hours it'll take to experience it.

None of which matters when posed with the question of comparing it to another game that fits basically the same criteria, but is flat out superior.
Neither game is great, but Ryse is at least fun.

Both the games shows as great graphical show pieces for the hardware. And that's about it. But you can do much better now.
I've played both and The Order is absolutely the better game in my eyes. That's not to say Ryse was bad, I enjoyed the story, but the combat was really repetitive and seeing multiple of the same enemies on the screen at once is distracting.
The Order had a good story too, but the combat was much better. The coach gun was so much fun to use. I give The Order the graphical edge as well. It just looks unbelievable.
Also the video quality of the cutscenes in Ryse was terrible on XBO. Really distracting when the game looks so good otherwise.

Ryse wasn't so bad like many made it out to be. Yes there're a lot of QTE's, and I generally dislike them, but for some reason it was still a decent fun romp, and a visual spectacle.
Of the two I've only played the Order 1886, but I'd have to recommend Ryse as I have to imagine it must be better.

I played like an hour or two of Ryse and got bored so I don't have much of an opinion of it other than that. The Order 1886 on the other hand is a complete failure from top to bottom with the obvious exception being the audiovisual presentation and even that I had a couple of issues with. (Some of environments are incredibly dull and muted combined that with enemies that literally blend in making hard to tell who the hell is shooting you sometimes.)
Terrible story and characters, hilariously underutilized setting and lore, simplistic to terrible encounters that barely evolve themselves throughout the course of the game and an awful ending to top off the entire experience.
Ya... I don't recommend Order 1886 at all even for a rental.

I didn't finish either game, but if I had to choose one to go back to it would be Ryse. I didn't like the look of the Order and while the graphics are great the amount of time they take away control or limit control makes it not as impressive. Since UC4 came up I would say it definitely does not belong in the same company as these two, and it looks great while allowing full control of Nate most of the time.
When I talk about taking away/limiting control I mean walk and talk sections and auto camera moments. UC4 is the first game I have actually messed around with photo mode and some of the times I wanted to use it the most camera control was taken away.

I imagine Ride To Hell is excellent as well as I've never played it......
The Order is a great game, it has slow sections which I feel benefit the overall gameplay. One of my favourite games this gen.
Can I second the comment about Uncharted 4 spoilers, thanks.

Played and enjoyed both.
Both are glorified tech demoes with a couple of good ideas and general bad execution.
For what they are, I liked both. I don't know which one is better. Maybe The Order, but it is also more disappointing since it aimed much higher.

You won't finish Ryse, it's atrocious. You'll beat The Order, and at least get some entertainment out of it.
Since graphics are the main draw of both games, get TO as it looks better.

To be fair, I am being pretty harsh. I actually did have a fun enough time with The Order 1886, but I think what left a bad taste in my mouth was the hand holding. I felt like the game never have any confidence in me, and constantly taught me the same stuff multiple times.
It does have a neat atmosphere, and at the very least it's worth running through for the unbelievable visuals.

Of course! But the "putting a gun to my head" and "dog shit" comments made me laugh.
Didn't love either myself, never finishing Ryse, unlike The Order which I got the plat trophy over a couple sittings on a weekend.
Even though I haven't been motivated to finish it, I was a bit more engaged with what I did play of Ryse than the entirety of The Order, which despite the nice visuals could not alleviate the various problems that game suffers.

I've also finished both and agree, Ryse is the better game.
And it's the only one of them that I can see myself playing again in future. The Order might have a change, if it wouldn't have been so infuriating experience with its misused world building, boneheaded protagonist and truly horrible gameplay pacing; with too many cut scenes, forced walking sections and those awful QTEs. I don't have the will to experience that game again when its fun gameplay section are just too rare.

I find The Order an average TPS with a great setting and design. The gameplay wasn't bad, but nothing special, it has some original weapons, but they feel wasted since you barelly get to use them. My biggest complaint is that the story doesn't feel enough developed, like the game ended at 2/3 of what it should be.

I really liked The Order. Mechanically it was better than Gears, one of the most polished tps ever made. The story was solid too. The game had bad pacing, and lacked a multiplayer mode, which would've done wonders for the game.
Got the CE for $20.
It was actually surprisingly good to play, very good weapon feedback and the movement was smooth and snappy....but I wouldn't quite say it was good as Gears when it came to on-foot movement.

The responsiveness, the combo system, and having to be great at timing for doing maximum damage and avoiding enemy attacks made the combat so damn satisfying.
The story while basic it was very well plotted and acted, they completely nailed the Blockbuster feeling they were going for.
I haven't played much of TO, but it starts so boring that I never gave it any chance to see if it picks up. If I had a Ps4 instead of playing from a borrowed one I would probably give it more time though, so it might be worth it if you can get it for cheap?
