Both are very good CPUs. The gap is closing and its looking better for the consumers.

6 cores 6 threads v 6c 12 threads. Just shows that you don't need anything more than 6 threads for gaming. An overclocked old 4 core 8 thread i7's are still more than enaugh for pure 60+ fps gaming.

BUT, if you do any video editing or are into streaming than Ryzen+ 2600 is a very significant upgrade over older 4c 8t i7's and a significant upgrade over this new i5-8400 as well. I dont see why anyone would choose this i5 over 2600 tbh.
