[S-Conf] PSOne Classics coming to PSVita this Summer

Rebuying games was a dumb speculation imo, but I'm still curious about the computability list. You know there will be one.
Will getting them to run on the Vita be that much harder than them running on the PSP?

I have a feeling this has something more to do with security. Otherwise there's no reason for this to be dragging on.

I was watching the conference with some friends at my place when the PSone classics were breezed over. I nearly threw a bottle through my TV I was so annoyed... but I guess they're coming.

I really hope we don't have to wait for a dozen firmware updates before my copy of FF8 works.

I just want to play Colony Wars on my Vita, but I'm from the US and they don't have it for our store....but they have it in UK Store :(

I wonder what would happen if I pointed this out to Grace Chen.

i think it would be counter what they've been trying to do with the playstation store to make you rebuy those games.

I hate to be that guy, but was it really so hard to show this montage at the E3 conference? Especially since it sounds like it was made for it...music and all.

That exact SCEJ montage? It did kinda prominently feature Tokimeki Memorial, which would freak out anyone that recognized it and suggest it's coming to the U.S. somehow.

sigh, how much longer before we can get ps2 classics on vita? I want some god hand on the go.

And psp had ps1 support like 6 years ago. Go pick one those up, they probably have more legs than vita at this point ;P

I think that list is just using the games that were shown as part of image at the show. I wouldn't take it as seriously indication of what will be there.

Not the exact one, but something similar replacing the JP only titles with NA only titles, or well known titles like Jet Moto.

"In a statement after the show, Sony added that " SCE will further accelerate the expansion of the PS Vita platform through regular system software updates."

Huh. Wonder how long we'll have to wait for stuff like Tomba, Suikoden 1, and Vagrant Story to be compatible.

Because that would take effort, and we know how SCEA is with handhelds and effort.

Or SCE in general, great. :(

When we FINALLY get PSOne games on the Vita, will they be 'real' full screen? I'll try to explain; I remember playing some PSOne games on the PSP, and there was a way to get more of a 'full screen' view of the game, but this included some slight image cropping. This, however, didn't happen on the PS3, at least on my TV.

So I'm just wondering how the games will look on the Vita. Will they have a 4:3 aspect ratio? Cropped full screen? Maybe we won't know until they're out.

I really hope this joking prediction I made the other week doesn't come true:
http://www.neogaf.com/forum/showpost.php?p=38223273&postcount=18

They'll make us pay an additional $1.99 for PSX games on the store, and we'll have to pay that $1.99 fee for PSX games we already own in order to transfar them to our Vitas. And there will be ads while they're downloading, and maybe inserted onto the load screens for games. I'm sure you could fit a whole commercial break while waiting for a battle to load in FF9.

They're not going to remake every single Playstation game with 16:9 widescreen, move the UI accordingly or any other tweeks. They're just the original games in their original format (4:3).

The opening says "compatible to PSP blah blah". This means that you won't have to redownload. The list shown probably indicates the PSone games that are currently working on the Vita. Like the PSP PSN games, not every game works on the PSP yet so they're fixing them (or the firmware) to make it compatible.

Smart thing would've been to announce that PS+ members who also have Vita's will have access to their existing libraries.
...but that would mean they'd have to spend more time talking about the Vita during their Press Conference! They were already trying to "cut the fat" as it is! lol

That looks like it's emulating the PSP emulating the PS1 :/

I thought it was going to be a new Vita specific emulator for PS1 games.

Well, the message could still be a carry over or even a placeholder before a new one's implanted, but I'll be REALLY disappointed if it's just the Vita emulating the PSP emulating the PS1. There's potential to put 480i support in, dual analog, and better performance for the few cases where it actually dipped (Vagrant Story). Too bad that guy couldn't remember/figure out you had to hold your finger on the screen for settings, that could've cleared it up for us.

And we're definitely redownloading unless we kept all our old PS1 installs around.

Ughhh so fucking lame Sony. I don't know why it's so hard for you guys to get things right out of the gate. At least I have three of the games on the IGN list. :/

Said it before, I bet it's all a security issue. The way people were hacking into various PSP games might have been a sign. Can't believe this isn't Vita emulated, though, wouldn't that solve things...

I'll cry if this takes the PSP/Minis route and only has a handful of supported games at launch

FF7, Coolboarders and Tomb Raider available now! Wait... you wanted ALL of them to work? I don't know about that, how about Q1?

How could it take Sony this long to port / develop a competent emulator for Vita?

I think it's the QA time ensuring games are playable on Vita.

People ask how they were able to get PSone games onto Android so quickly, but there was virtually no QA time for the PS Certified devices because there was such a limited selection of titles going on there. But if they want all existing classics to work on Vita they presumably have to check the whole library, and perhaps make patches as they go.

Just a guess though. It may also relate to security patching as mattiewheels suggests.

With Sony's inability to add PSP games and Minis almost five months of the Vita being out, I fully expect to have, like, five PS One games by the end of the year. If we're lucky.

Oh for crying out loud...

You should quote the whole thing:

PSOne Classics will soon be compatible with PlayStation Vita, finally. However, the launch won't just be flipping a switch on all the PSOne Classics available on PSP and PS3. Instead, Vita PSOne Classics will be rolled out gradually starting this summer, Sony informed Joystiq today.

If you've previously bought any newly Vita-compatible PSOne Classic, you'll be able to download it for free on Vita. The exact launch lineup wasn't announced, but expect it to include the games shown at Sony's press conference: Wild Arms, Tomb Raider, Final Fantasy 7, Twisted Metal 2, Arc the Lad, Cool Boarders 2, and Jet Moto.

So basically the Vita emulator has its own compatibility list which will grow over the time, but the titles are the same for PS3/PSP/Vita, so we won't have to buy them again specifically for Vita.

my guess is most psone classics will actually work but they won't officially support them without doing QA on every game to confirm compatibility

I hope compatibility list is all games released on PSN not the thing actually is for PSP games on vita (I still want to my Killzone runs, here), but the way was announced (Tomb Raider and FFVII) doesn't seems to be :(

Yeah, but you know how slow Sony works. If you purchased some obscure title you may be waiting a while. Whatever happened to that whole streaming onlive/giaku(whatever it's called) thing anyway? All fake I take it...

It was just a rumor from vg247, which up to this point proved to be bogus but who knows what the future holds.
As for Psone games I guess the whole thing will be adressed like the PSP emulator on Vita.
Hopefully the compatibility list will grow quickly month by month although I'd imagine that priority will be given to the best selling classics like FF, Tomb Raider, Resident Evil series.
