Talking about S-E... it's weird that they haven't announced a "Party" to announce/show games yet.

Maybe they'll show (fucking Mega closed theatre) everything at TGS this year?
and we'll still only get mere seconds of games like Versus and Agito :(

If it looks like SaGA 4, sounds like SaGa 4 and acts like SaGa 4 then it must be..... Final Fantasy VII remake Final Fantasy V DS Seiken Densetsu 4 Four Warriors of Light something!

I am only slightly versed in SaGa, but wouldn't that be weird? I thought the series just continued on with its new name parts, so that Romancing SaGa was essentially SaGa 4. Having a separate SaGa 4 now would be like Kojima working on Metal Gear 3, without Solid in the name.

Its more like the Megaman series if anything. Each generation they change the name, gameplay mechanics, world, etc. But like Capcom did with Megaman 9, Square could quite possibly bring back the original SaGA, especially with SaGa 2 DS coming out.

Romancing SaGa changed alot of the mechanics and stuff from the original series.

With the promotion of the series' 20th anniversary and that Game Boy music on the site I'm pretty much sold on it being SaGa 4 on the DS. The SaGa 2 remake seems to be just the appetizer.

Tomomi Kobayashi (the artist for several SaGa games) mentioned doing something for Square Enix again on her blog.

She said it only around seven days ago.

Just curious, how did you come about finding something an artist not obviously related to this project wrote on their blog and relate it to this?

I'm not being sarcastic or anything, I just don't follow the thought process here. What makes people think this could be SaGa related?

Because Kobayashi hasn't worked for Square Enix for ten years and suddenly said she submitted new artwork for them? This could very much mean a new SaGa game since she is not associated with anything else other than the SaGa series.

That and like others said, the '4' and the background GB-like music might be related a 'SaGa 4'.

Of course, she could always be doing the artwork for something else, as already brought up in this thread, but the point of the thread is to discuss the possibilities, I'd think.

4 Warriors of Light + 8-bit sounding music = Yet another FF1 remake.

That's the only thing this evidence and my lack of faith in SE can come up with.

The prominent placement of the Dragon and the 4, though, make me wonder if it might be a Monster Hunter spin on the original FF. 4 player ad-hoc DSi battles?

How is Square-Enix doing financially right now? I'm just trying to imagine what the economic landscape must be like for them to resort to the FFVII Remake that's long been rumored to be in the making.

Judging by the artistic style of the sketch on the countdown website, it's obviously not FFVII by any stretch of the mind, but the notion of a new game announcement from SE still beckons the question.

/eh.

That'd make sense if the 8-bit sounding music happens to be from FF1... But it isn't.

Traditional FF in vein of 1-6? One could only dream.
Making a new 2D FF game instead of a remake or sequel? Surely you jest...

Wasn't there supposed to be new art from her in the upcoming SaGa 20th Anniversary OST Box? Plus she did contribute illustrations for both Unlimited SaGa and Romancing SaGa: Minstrel Song.

Anyway, I wouldn't mind seeing a new SaGa game, though I'm not really expecting it to be that. Maybe a new retro-themed Chocobo's Dungeon game? The art looks kinda Itahana-ish and wasn't the Wii/DS game third part in that series?

I think I mis-phrased my question. I'm actually wondering how anyone found this artist's blog in order for the correlation with the new game to ever come up in the first place. I mean, are there people who are big enough fans of this artist that they follow her blog? Is she known for anything other than SaGa games?

More likely than not they got the website link from 2ch which has people who would actually follow her blog.

You are right in that the blog post might not be a result of a new game, and I did already brought up that possibility earlier in the thread.

And the bit about not working with Square Enix for 10 years is straight from her blog, so I am not sure if her illustrations for those two games were actually new, or if she didn't think they were important enough to mention, or if she just forgot. :lol

She has a bunch of fans from her work as an illustrator, but she is known mostly for her work in the SaGa series, which use to be a consistent million-seller in Japan, so that's a pretty big role. But yeah, this news probably originated from 2ch (like any other gaming news from Japan).

Is this supposed to own me or something

Actually the fact that you took the time to go into a Square thread just to post
Powerslave said:
Excuse me but I didn't knew people still cared for this pathetic has-been company.
and come off like a total asshat is all the "owning" needed I would say...

As to the thread in question, I hope this is something good and not just a throw away sequel/spinoff.

I agree. I can hardly tell the difference between Balthier and Tidus. They're practically twins. Put Tidus in FF12 and nobody would know it wasn't FF10.

Also their latest non-FF games sucked too, ie Last Remnant and Infinite Undiscovery.

in order didn't suck and wasn't se by any margin of the imagination; also those weren't their two most recent titles.

It looks like the dragon on the FFV cover. I've been trying to find a better image to compare the two.
The head is a little too big on this one though. The dragon from FFV is a bit better proportioned.

True. I'm looking at the scale design and whatnot.

Has Square Enix stumped the Gaf detectives?

And in fact, if they did remake FFV, they would probably remake it with FFIV's style, which would mean the art (not the graphics) would be much more mature.

Unless for FFV they decided to chibify it to match the graphics.

Bahamuth, looks almost the same, but a baby version, same spikes on the tail, head, etc.

I'll admit that their output has diminished since the PS1 days, but every game looking the same? Really? In what way, because they are still RPGs?

FFXII certainly didn't look or play like the earlier FF games. If anything it was criticized for straying too much from their formula. FFXIII, yeah it may have the same kind of fantasy inspired industrial look that the series tends to have, but that's what makes it a FF game anyway. The Last Remnant is another example of SE trying a different approach to RPGs.

There is nothing they have released to elicit this -->
Excuse me but I didn't knew people still cared for this pathetic has-been company.
response. Because we'd have to hold every other company that deals primarily in the same genre to the same standards.

Wouldn’t mind an announcement for FFV & VI remakes for the DS.
I'm waiting for these two remakes on any system. Specifically VI because the game is easily one of the best if not the best in the series and because that puts us one step closer to the VII remake. It's win/win in my eyes.

It's not impossible... FFV has a more light-hearted feel than FFIV, so they might decide to make the illustrations chibi as a way of giving it some personality, similar to what they did with FF9. The Amano designs don't exactly match the personality of the characters in the game anyway.
