S.T.A.L.K.E.R. 2 alleged details - it's an MMO, may support mods, in-house engine

Edit - it's fake

Apparently this is fake

This is the source, in Ukrainian: https://vk.com/@welcometochernobyl-sergei-grigorovich-glavnoe-sohranit-duh-serii-podrobnosti-s
Hopefully it's just a troll by the biggest Stalker community on VK...

Sergey Grigorovich talked to the press about the game, yesterday in Kiev. The game wasn't shown.

  • They looked back at the trilogy and identified what people loved about it, but also at how developing a game evolved since then, digital distribution etc.
  • Old X-Ray hasn't been updated since 2011 when Stalker 2's development was halted
  • They've been working on a new engine, X-Ray 3.1 for a year
  • The engine can handle advanced photorealistic graphics, a unique lighting system but also older technologies without affecting the game's look (I think he means it has ray tracing but also traditional lighting)
  • The engine is multiplatform and they want to finish developing it by the end of this console generation. They hope Nintendo will have a stronger console out by 2020
  • A-Life was difficult to work with. In an era when many gamers did not have Internet, they wanted to make a singleplayer game that felt like an online game, where stalkers have personalities and animals follow their instincts and a food chain
  • Stalker 2 will be an online game, no singleplayer – "why create a simulation, when we can have real people in the game now? Why write NPC behaviour systems, when you can have real people doing what they want. They will fill the game world with their real life, not an artificial one. We just have to give them the right tools"
  • The timeline is not locked, they might even soft-reboot it
  • Players won't be split into factions from the start. All players have the same common quest. When a players reaches the goal, a blowout will redistribute the Zone's balance of resources. They hope this mechanic will create dynamic clan systems, with players creating their own alliances and fights. Some will want to maintain the state of the Zone, others will want to update it as it would be better for their alliance. This is based on the Clear Sky faction system.
  • You can be a loner and don't join any alliance
  • BUT! They still have an AI system, jokingly named "O-Consciousness". This constantly updates the game world – from the state of the resources, to moving anomalies and controlling mutants.
  • They considered a battle royale mode but they think it may not even be popular anymore by the time the game launches. Faction war has always been popular in the Stalker community, however. Players will have the freedom to create arenas and battle royale modes if they want (I think he means in-game, not through modding)
  • They want to keep the game on for a long time, so they're aware of the need for constant updates. They need it to bring a steady strem of money, but they don't want it to be pay-to-win and they won't split the community through DLCs
  • They will have cosmetic transactions: a lot clothes, player and weapon skins, music for the fireside guitar. There may be a mod workshop.
  • In-game money can be bought with real money. There will be a "contraband store" where players can buy equipment for in-game money, but hunting artifacts will be more profitable
  • The game has perma-death. After you lose three characters, you'll have to buy new ones with in-game currency. Yes, this means you may have to pay real money. Joining an alliance and making friends will thus be beneficial.
  • They don't want to reveal the anomalies, mutants and artifacts because they're still designing them. They claim some anomalies wouldn't work in a singleplayer game and they want to make surprising new mutants.

Well that's....something......

Side note, take a look at this vid for anyone wondering why Stalker was so special

This is awful. It's everything I wouldn't want from a stalker game. MMO, which means awful people who will shoot and camp without any reason, or break immersion with spam chats or jumping or similar things. Paying real money is also a big no for me. Cosmetic transactions are something that I hate.

All hype I had has vanished, and I loved the previous stalker games, but all those features are not what I like in a game.

It seems like they really don't understand what made previous stalker games great and chose money grab features.

Yes, overall it sounds like the badly monetized games popular in the CIS space.

Sigh... So Survivarium bombed let's try multiplayer again? Gtfo this is why I wasn't excited for the announcement. Metro exodus is stalker 2.

MMO? With Permadeath where I have to buy a new character after I die 3 times ?

Yeah no thx

I really hope this is just a troll (it was posted by the biggest Stalker VK community). At this point, given Grigorovich's handling of the studio, it sounds ridiculous enough to be true.

Though the part about "why make NPC's when we can have real players" sounds a lot like trolling. It's just nonsense explanation I guess...

Some of this sounds like 2007 "what-ifs" you could find on any forum.
The player completing the quest sounds a lot like an idea GSC had for the first game, where NPCs could do it before you.

Yeah, no. This is not STALKER. I loved that game to pieces. This I have no interest in now.

The announcement was fun anyway. Been waiting for a very long time for stalker 2 and it looks like I'll be waiting much longer. I expected a sequel to STALKER, not Survarium 2.

3 lives and your done in an all "real people" environment????

Muthafucka if anyone has spent an hour in Day-Z knows how long those three lives will last.

What a major catastrophe, how can they ruin such an awesome franchise with this nonsense. I get they want their players to take their choices seriously but the internet is beyond filled with trolls that will happily go on kill streaks and buy new characters with their Twitch money and destroy any chance the community has to build something worth while.

Metro gets my money, not this game.

MMO? No single-player?

Lol. If this is true...

Yeah fake seems about right.

They say its fake, but that's just to cover their tracks, prepare for a 2030 delay.

But seriously. very glad to know that was all bogus.

No singleplayer - no buy

Depends. If I'm able to just play all the missions by myself, I'll still buy, but if its one of those things were you "need" to have others to just pass area, dungeon etc, its a no buy. Really depends
