the mental gymnastics in this thread.. ''oh if doesn't affect me wiping my ass, doesn't bother me''You won't be saying that in 10 years time when every multiplayer shooter comes with an Elite tier weapons NFT that only the 1% can afford. They fuck you up the arse in real life and now they get to do it in virtual space.
And I'd love to know how NFTs are currently 100% renewable, because they aren't, and until they are, it's not going to be a non-issue for everyone. You don't have to be a Greta to appreciate how burning through stacks of energy for the sake of enabling digital trading cards that make rich people richer is not inherently something to be celebrated.
NFTs are a scam.
Wonderful. Now everyone will be a copyright troll.Yeah but why is that desirable?. Is it a situation where the 'owner' has like copyright on that knife, and only they can use it or something?.
I mean its cool i suppose, if you care about stuff like that.
Fixed it for you.
Any game right now could charge crazy amounts for weapons.. w/o blockchain or NFTs.You won't be saying that in 10 years time when every multiplayer shooter comes with an Elite tier weapons NFT that only the 1% can afford. You guys aren't really making any sense.
Bitcoin has been a fad for over ten years now. I think you're gonna have to be extremely patientThe sooner this shit fad dies off, the better.
This is great news as it allows the developers to pursue an avenue of revenue that does not conflict with gameplay.
But of course, weak-minded reactionary gamers who know little to nothing will automatically get angry.
Personally, I'm wondering if this will affect the GamePass release as Phil Spencer hasn't had favorable comments in the past:
Xbox boss Phil Spencer is a bit worried about 'exploitative' NFTs
We probably won't see any "EvilApes" or "Lazy Lions" on Game Pass.www.pcgamer.com

Blockchains and NFTs are an attempt at justifying those crazy prices though
I wouldn't worry about it. Sure that many games might use that in the future, but I'm sure that there's gonna be plenty of normal games being sold for the more sane consumers.NTFs slowly turning regular videogames into real life casinos and auction houses. It will reach a point where some devs dont care anymore if the game is fun to play or not, but how many NTF transaction can be made in the game.
I mean moreso NFTs and blockchain shit as it applies to games. It's just another excess revenue stream for studios to milk gullible people with more money than brains, and it's something that doesn't need to exist in this industry. It's bad enough with microtransactions being as prolific as they are.Bitcoin has been a fad for over ten years now. I think you're gonna have to be extremely patient
The same could be said of loot boxes, look where that went.I don't see any evidence games are going to start actually selling high priced NFTs to access better weapons or anything like that.
The market will decide whether NFTs in games need to exist. Imagine you want to play an MMO and got to choose between two games. MMO #1 is a classic one, while MMO #2 uses NFTs. They're very similar in quality otherwise. The average gamer will play MMO #2 because why grind an epic mount in MMO #1 when you can do the same in MMO #2 and get a mount that actually has some monetary value? This dynamic will indirectly force devs to implement NFTs into their games. That's my long term prediction.I mean moreso NFTs and blockchain shit as it applies to games. To add: I do think that the idea of NFTs (gaming or otherwise) are just absurdly dumb to begin with in their own right, not to mention their impact on the environment.

Imagine coming home from work, and sitting down to relax and play a game, and instead of just playing and having fun you can choose to pretend to have fun because all that's on your mind is the question of "how much money does this make me".The market will decide whether NFTs in games need to exist. The point is we have the ability right now to kill a horrible trend in video games. Not sure what your point is. Haven't many games eliminated them?
They still exist, but they aren't as prevalent as they once were. MTX are, but in most games, it's for cosmetics.. or "boosters".. and they.. again, can be done w/o NFTs at any price.
NFTs make things transferable outside the game.. so sure, maybe some game might think they can get away with charging a high price.. but good luck making a game popular that actually does that for anything but cosmetics.
I'm having a hard time deciding between the "not like this" and the "look how they massacred my boy" gifs.
tbh not sure why these companies are banking on their games lasting long enough for people to bother investing into NFT's on their platform. The game will prolly hold interest for a few months if it's decent.

Yeah it could be but cryptocurrency douchebags don't give a shit about anyone or anything but their bank account. That kind of internet has been long, long dead. Acting like it's still there doesn't really serve anyone.
Eh. I'd argue most people know what they're getting into.
This is FUD from the Greta Thunberg types. Especially since the energy needed to run NFTs could be made from renewables. It's a complete non-issue.
Unwishlisted and reported to Steam.
You thought DLC and broken games were bad, just wait for this trash.
Can't just make and release a game anymore. Need to tack on stupid BS for everything now. So annoying.
There's provenly a massive crowd that will go for such a thing.
I'm surprised it took this long, but I suppose NFT is the cool new trend(?) so it may sound more appealing than Citizen of the stars and all your dreams come true.
There's nothing worse than a block chain evangelist.
It's like if you take all the worse qualities of an Apple user, Tesla owner and Vegan, and combine them into one shitty person.
NFT will enable modders to sell unique skins and enforce the uniqueness. Basically, GSC Game World will issue an original contract to a creator for an unique item then that creator is free
to sell the said contract without GSC Game World meddling in. Then the new owner will also be able to sell the contract, and so forth. NFT in this case gives freedom and safety.
Blockchain is a legit technology that has multiple uses, NFT being one of them.
Freedom to do what, and safety from what? Freedom to sell the item in some way the parent company would object to because it puts them at potential legal risk? Safety from the parent company going under, nuking the value of the item anyway? How would the creator benefit from this, if it's all tied to the company and game he's doing it for anyway?NFT will enable modders to sell unique skins and enforce the uniqueness.
