Saints Row demo out on Xbox Live Marketplace

Not cool, bodies and wreckage should not disappear at all in next gen but for damn sure not while in view.

One thing that always bothered me with GTA games was that once a driving vehicle left your view it would be gone. Is this the case with SR? Does the game keep track of cars on the road or does it just fill the immediate area with random cars

Good thing some of us have standards. Heck my standard is not even high. Give me 30fps 95% percent of time and maybe a little bit of screen tearing here and there, but then some people can also enjoy games at 5 fps. Incapable developers love you.

That weirdness is present in the last rev I played as well, but to be fair that happens in GTA a lot as well. Start a mission with a particular car, leave it and go travel halfway across the damn map, then come back and it's still there. WTF. I hate disappearing cars. :\

Yeah I just noticed they disappeared a LOT faster in this one, especially the cop cars. One pulled up, I killed the cops and right before my eyes it just faded away. wtf :lol

I think it says a lot that we're not discussing design issues other than "its gta lol," but have three pages worth of "20 FPS WITH TEARING BLOWS"/"NO ITS ACCEPTABLE"

Oblivion definitely looks (and runs, for that matter) better than SR. Oblivion also has like the largest game world ever.

No. Daggerfall and most recently GTA: San Andreas have much larger game world's than Oblivion.

Also, quite a bit of damage control in this topic, as if people are trying to convince themselves this game isn't/won't be complete crap (which it is/will be).

I don't follow this logic. If I've played it, repeatedly, and enjoyed it, also repeatedly, how is that damage control? Even further, how is it what you're saying NOT damage control in light of my own personal experience?

"Complete crap" would have to be changed to "not my cup of tea" or you're in a semantic world of strangeness and instability.

Daggerfall's world *IS* larger, but it is EXTREMELY plain in comparison. Oblivion's world is beautifully designed and offers a wide range of finely detailed locales to explore. Daggerfall's world is just empty and simple in comparison and seems needlessly large.

I could see GTA-SA, honestly. If you were limited to slow, on foot travel, the world would probably seem even larger. That was one big game world...but it is significantly less detailed.

I've been playing San Andreas this week on XB360 (backwards compat works fine) which made me excited to play this.

...

Let me just say I can't wait till GTA4 comes in and bitch slaps this game.

Dagerfall's cities and dungeons were randomly generated so there is an endless amount of dungeons/cities. :lol

You'll have to. Which is the whole point of this game's existence.

or people could wait for something like Crackdown instead which is coming 'soon' and actually looks decent.

You need to try the PC version of SA. It makes a huge difference in terms of atmosphere. The draw distance can be cranked up FAR beyond the console versions, for instance. Seeing the entire city spread out before your eyes is just incredible to behold. The sense of awe impresses, even with its fairly simplistic visuals. Also, the performance is much smoother on the PC.

I've tried it on the PC and it looks great (played and beat the other two on PC) but my laptop with ATI mobility 9600 isn't going to compare with the flat screen with surround sound. I bought the trillogy pack for cheap and have been enjoying it a lot.

Well, that's the thing, I just bring my PC into the living room and hook it up to my plasma and receiver. Looks incredible.

Yeesh... why does the game look like Midtown Madness 3 for Xbox?

And why is there no auto aim feature?

I am going back to San Andreas PRONTO!

I thought this looked good at E3, but I am absolutely floored playing the demo on my home setup. Much the same reaction as the first time playing Oblivion -- everything about the game is just drop-dead gorgeous. Character models, environments -- totally stunning for a sandbox game.

God there are a lot of whiny bitches on this board. If GTA4 looks anywhere near this good, I will be elated.

Awesome work, Volition.

I was going to buy this game before I played the demo, now I'm even more hyped about it! My major complaint about the demo is that there aren't subtitles. I hope they'll be included in the final version.

Have Volition or THQ released the soundtrack listing yet?

No soundtrack listing yet, but there are 12 radio stations and 6 hidden tracks, which are unlocked through finding discs in the game world (60 discs - 10 discs a track).

I know there will be a wide range of music, but no actual specifics. The videos Blim put on Xboxyde give out some clues about the soundtrack, but nothing major. Only songs I heard were some 80s rock and I think some more hiphop.

Blim - can you get a tracklisting up for us or is there an NDA?

Hidden Tracks? HOTTTTTT.

Yeah I didn't particularly care for the vehicles disappearing. I can understand on one hand if they want to clear excess bodies and wreakage since it can tax the system but cars disappearing like 10 seconds after I run into them? Not cool.

If the soundtrack listing is half as good as what's on the demo I won't have to worry about ripping more music for at least awhile.

Just played it for a bit. The floaty driving bothered me at first, but I got used to it pretty quickly. Everything else seems pretty good, better than I expected anyways. The framerate is really no better or worse than GTA. So far I think this one is a purchase

My next laptop will definitely have DVI or HDMI for that. :)

I must have framerate disabled vision because I never see this framerate stuff you guys are always talking about. I only seem to notice when the framerate outright sucks, and I didn't notice the framerate here. I did notice the constant tearing, though. I'm hoping that's just a symptom of an old demo build.

FDV. Framerate disabled vision. I'm right there with you, I hate it when people estimate the framerate.

It's funny when my friend tells me that Oblivion runs around 30 frames and then jumps to 35 frequently

I laughed my ass off when he said that. This was shortly after telling him that they capped the game at 30fps.....

how does the framerate suck? It dips on occassion but it feels one hell of a lot smoother then any GTA game.

Are you playing in HD? Did you see the intro cutscene by any chance? I'm curious because to me it was the worst cutscene I have ever sceen in terms of framerate and tearing. I would've expected that if I was playing on my laptop maybe but not on the platform it was desinged for. (Hoping it's only a demo issue.)

the cutscene was horrid (viewing at 720p) but the actual game was fine.

I miss motorcycles and bikes more than I thought I would, I spent 90% of time in GTA on motorcycles. The game is alright, but I think it has been over hyped. I'll have to see how the online play is before I decide to buy it.

i dont wanna start a new thread just to ask this so il just ask here...is XBL down at the moment?

edit: its fine, was a router issue

I also don't have the framerate issues, but I have the screen tearing and its only in the beginning.

I've been playing the pre-order demo DVD from Best Buy.

I should probably download the marketplace demo for comparison.

Somebody at IGN said that there was a noticeable difference in the framerate between playing it off the DVD demo and the marketplace demo. He claims the marketplace demo's framerate is worse, so I guess I'll download it and see for myself.

The graphics are really impressive aside from the popup. It looks like a cg movie. Im not really into GTA games so I wont comment on the gameplay. Seems like if you enjoy them you should enjoy this.

oh and by the way, on topic, this game ROCKS, i love the hip hop they had on the station, very nice gfx :)

not that its bad, its just like a polished gta3, which would rock if we werent on gta sa now.

the framerate isn't that bad overall, but at times it is horrible. I'll chalk that up to this being a demo.

I only played for about 15-20 min, pretty fun/long demo.

I don't really get how the game engine works because some of the things just leave me puzzled. The game drops in frames pretty easily, but it stays around 20-25fps during huge chaos, but when there isn't much on screen, it can drop down to 25 for no reason at all.

I'm guessing the demo is from E3, which would mean more time for polish. Wish the dev's on the Saints Row forum would just answer some of the tech questions.

is anyone else DEFINETLY getting this?

I think a lot of people will get it, but it's sales might be hurt by Dead Rising, but personally, I think it might go the other way since there is a demo of Saints Row out and the genre sells really well.

Edit: Didn't even answer the question! Yeah, I'll be picking it up day one.

Live is shutting down! :lol I can't even access certain blades because the info is trickling in sooo slow. Ive been waiting for my message to be sent for about 5 min.

I personally thought the cutscenes were smoother than those of GTA, and yes, I was watching it in 720p.

Had the driving controls been better (my only big gripe with this game) along with some other minor things, I would have put it on my "list."

However, they're not, and that means no list. Besides, in a world of 60 dollar games, I think August is reserved for one very special title: Dead Rising.

Now that, I am buying (unless everyone says it's a boring, mundane, redundant, and stupid game, then I won't buy it...)

If theres a cheap Fry's deal, then definite day-one pricematch. :)

Basically. It has to be the E3 demo-- there's no way it could be on a certified, pressed disc one month earlier and be close to final-build.

each to theyre own, i think the driving controls are better than anything in GTA, the cars in gta feel like theyre driving on ice, not on road. and while SR cars feel more floaty theyre definetly easier to drive, imo anyway

I dont like how cars disappear so fast. I was shooting a cop car with a shotgun trying to make it blow up and it just ****ing disappeared. Seen it happen a few more times too.

That to me is the worst. One of the things i always hated about GTA is how cars and people would just pop in and out of existance.
