Saints Row expansion now a full game

When it comes to Saints Row, it's clear our fans want bigger, better and even more over the top
Wait wut. wasn't this the guy who didn't like the sillyness of saints row?

regardless, I like this decession. I don't have saints row 3.
hopefully it's at a cheaper price (lol. never)

"Wow, you guys give your fans WAY too much game for a cheap DLC! Fuck it, let's add a few more things and charge full price!

Anyway, back to my part time job at Bethesda...working as marketing director on THE ELDER SCROLLS VI: DAWNGUARD!".

Ugh, sounds like this'll be even more of a move away from SR2. Hated the desperate attempts in SR3 to be overly "wacky". Too much of that dilutes the overall experience.

Good that they changed it to a full game because the DLC couldn't make that much money at all. At $20 it would have need to sell a million copies, or 1/4 of all Saints Row The Third owners.

It was standalone. Like Infamous: Festival of Blood.

I know I'm in the minority, but The Third was my least favorite Saints game, by far. "Super crazy" did not equal "better" for me, and if the "even CRAAAAAZIER" Dominatrix premise is now the direction of the entire next game, I'm likely done with the series.

Groovy I guess, though if it is being folded into a full sequel I hope that means a new city to mess around in, I also hope it isn't SR4 and they do a GTA and give us Saints Row:"something something" and save a SR4 for next gen.

Sounds good to me if they have more time to add more customisation and give me plenty of shit to do in the awesome game world this time. More than happy to wait.

but GAF told me that Rubin hates Saints Row and therefore he sucks!!

I know, GAF seemed so right! Rubin has no idea what he is talking about.

That was it supposed to be initially but now it became the sequel to SR The Third. Since they are adding to the expansion, a new city seems very unlikely...

So what are they adding to justify doubling the price? Is it still going to take place in Steelport? Because I feel like that's the main thing when it comes to an open world game. You can add all the new missions and vehicles and weapons and whatever you like - but if it still takes place in the same city, it's not gonna feel like a fresh new game worth a full 60 bucks.

Saints Row 2?

oh man the tentative title! Perfect!

I think this is a good idea on THQs part, Saints Row is the perfect kind of game to launch on 360/PS3/720 & PS4 all at once because they don't have to throw in any more fidelity they can just lock it at 60fps, make the draw distances longer and ship it.

I just noticed that and completely agree! That'd be an amazing title, hopefully they keep it.

Seriously, fuck this and give me Red Faction Guerrilla 2.

That team really must be working on something at the moment since Volition already released 2 games this year. Red Faction is meant to be a dead IP so hopefully they are taking their time with a new IP that will take full advantage of that GeoMod goodness.

It was standalone. Like Infamous: Festival of Blood.

It seems like a lot regardless of that, it would need to have reached 1/4 of the sales of the actual game which would be the public for the game at a price of $20. Did Episodes from Liberty City do that much for GTAIV 360?

So what you're saying is it'll be a refreshing departure from the usual, and better than most of the rest of the series?

No, he's not saying that at all. At all.

This is a good thing though, I rarely buy DLC expansions these days since after a while I just don't feel like going back to the game. A sequel I'll go back to though, even though I didn't get too far in SR3.

Assuming they have an engine/workflow that lets them freely move assets around, the expansion pack could add a decent amount of content to the sequel.

And, IMO, the 'wild' or 'crazy' direction of the Saints Row series has already gotten stale.

Saints Row 3 had, more or less, the standard sandbox gameplay mechanics of every other open world sandbox game on consoles, like GTA 4, and just added a bunch of weird/crazy storylines, plots, setpieces, items, models, and so on, which made it feel very gimmicky.

They need to add some unique gameplay mechanics, as opposed to the 'standard open world Sandbox' fare of the previous games (More or less.). I suppose one way to do this is to give the player more control, like changing weight/physics/properties of various items, but in a focused UI. Climbing, building, etc, these are some of the things that could set up some truly unique and awesome scenarios in a Saints Row 4 world.

Just for clarification, the thread title is a bit misleading. As seen in the release the expansion is not "now a full game" it's being rolled into a full game.

You'd think everybody would realize that...

I think it's a great idea, especially for marketing purposes. I doubt this would have done well enough as an expansion.

I read it like those who have just posted, that it is being put into the sequel rather than a sequel is being made out of the existing content.

I dont know what this Rubis is up to, first he says one thing, then he says the other.

Its like he didnt see the numbers of Saints Row 3 or some shit like that before opening his mouth the other week. That or the backslash of the internet... and the numbers sold.

I hope this ones are his true words now, and the game turns great at the end, with over the top giant craziness in epic scale, and not a GTA clone.

It has a catchy tentative title.

“The Next Great Sequel in the Saints Row Franchise.”

Please, leave it as the title volition hahahaha, or if you have to cut it leave it like this:
Saints Row IV
The Next Great Sequel

As the industry should be!

have a new idea? make a new game!
DLC has a place for extending the life of games with SMALL updates.
but real, fresh, new content in a franchise should be contained in actual games.

Can't wait for Saint's Row 4. good move.

Sounds ok.

It's a shame about Crecente's article making it look like Rubin hates the franchise. So many comments here and on other sites/facebook pretty much ignorant to the fact he never said the things people believe he did.

It's a smart idea. No one was going to buy that DLC when it released later this year, not with all of the bigger and more important games coming out.

I hope that is the title. It would be amazing. Well, that and even more co-op players.

This also gives me hope for even more Darksiders. Those two franchises are the only THQ games that have earned my money and will continue to. I just hope it isn't an ODST. (No, Monocle).
Yeah.. no thanks

Superpowers and shit do not belong in my Saints Row.
Okay.

Well, they would be perfect in my Saints Row - this series isn't exactly about restraint at this point, so why not?

I played each and every bit of that game and DLC... I want this, hard.

I loved the first two games, but not because they were wacky, but because they were kinda serious with a funny tone to it all.

Them going all out over the top didn't make S3 a better game at all, ofcourse there were plenty of things missing about that game that was in the first two.

I'm not really down with the way the third game went down, so few really good missions and so much less to do. Now they are going to add superpowers? This aint no crackdown..

"even more over the top"

"Expansion folded into a full game" is a recipe for disaster. THQ needs money and after Saints Row The Third success they want to capitalize on that. Unfortunately I don't see this decision as a good one for the quality of the game or the future of this franchise.

This.

Still hoping for Saints Row 4 with new graphics, mechanics, gameplay and new shit.

I thought Saint Row 3 felt like a bare bones SR2 because they were planning on selling it all in DLC packs. Guess that's not happening anymore. Hopefully SR4 is not made with DLC in mind and is chock full of content from the get go.

If its anything like the jump from SR1's Stilwater to SR2's Stilwater, I'm OK with it.

Completely contradictory against what Rubin has said about the franchise in the past, but if it results in a new game next year, I can't say I'm complaining. The Third was absolutely fantastic, one of the few open world games I've ever cared to beat, and certainly above the "me-too" mediocrity that was the first two games.
