Sales of PS4 Camera & Move controller skyrocket after PS VR announcement

Camera sales up almost 1000% on Amazon.

PlayStation VR's release date announcement overnight has led to a huge rise in sales for its required camera accessory.

Sony announced a £349 price for PlayStation VR last night, though this price doesn't include the required PlayStation Camera or any optional Move controllers – PS4's DualShock is good enough for a VR experience.

On Amazon, sales of the PlayStation Camera are up 975 per cent, seeing its sales rank jump from No.215 to No.20. Amazon sells the camera for £39.

Similarly, the PS VR compatible Move Controller has seen its sales rise by 305 per cent, and a PS4 Camera Stand is also up by 243 per cent.

It is going to be a wild ride starting October, this is going to be insane! :D

I bought a used Move controller at GameStop a few months ago thinking this would happen. Wonder how useful and supported it'll ultimately be though.

This could be meaningful, but saying percent increase without an initial sales number does not show definitively that this is a significant amount of stuff being sold.

Just to be clear, the PS3 eyetoy will not work, right? I have to buy a ps4 camera? Either way I am going to hold out to see if they decide to do a camera + headset deal of some sort (all the while pre-ordering a headset as soon as I can).

That feel when you picked up a PS Camera last year for $25 at Best Buy in preparation for VR

i actually bought my camera around the time it launched. the only thing i bought later (late 2015) is the move controller but that was for #DreamsPS4

so i'm squared away until the VR is up on amazon.com

Seriously in the other threads all those people seeing this and saying it's gimmick have no fucking clue.

They are just salty, and the crow that will be given to them this October will be sweet as candy.

Even the bloody PlayStation Camera stands are shooting up Amazon's sales charts.

I already have both those things.

I never did buy one of those navigation sub-controllers though... I should probably get on that

Smart decision by Sony to release the VR without a camera. They simultaneously met the $399 show price to keep people interested and now can make a little margin off their older accessories.

Sony gonna be rolling in dough with all these old ass accessories being sold like hotcakes.

Yup.

It will help the loss they are taking on the VR device. Because I remember them saying the expect to sell at a loss.

So seeing a surge in camera, move controllers and later this year VR software will help make it a viable and profitable investment for them.

They seriously have made such good moves so far, it's hard to not compare where Nintendo and MS are at and see how they react later this year.

Welp, I'll just wait for the
hopefully
$500 bundle.

That or waite for black friday where you can get Move controllers for like 10$ a piece and get the camera for like 20-30$.

Lucky I already have a set of Move controllers that only got used for like one or two days with Sports Champions on PS3.

Otherwise I'd be scrambling for them.

Honestly, Im kinda thankful that Sony did not release a mandatory brand new PS4 Move version, even if one (non mandatory) is probably coming eventually.

Already having the PS3 version is a savings, and also allows people who don't to buy it separately on the cheap.

Helllllll ya.

I still have my old Move controller from Sports Champtipns. Bought another just a second ago $25. No rush shipping.

Already bought the camera on sale last year, but holding off on Move controllers because I have a feeling we're getting an updated revision of that this year.

The sense of immersion and presence you get by using two controllers that have 1:1 tracking with your hands in-game is imo unparalleled. That goes for all the VR kits.

I've loved my experiences with VR games that use a traditional controller layout e.g. EVE Valkyrie, but it was games where I could naturally move my arms and hands independent of one another to do things in the game world that really blew me away and sold me on the tech.

I am not surprise. You need them for the best experience.

I'll wait for the bundle though
