Samsung might do a recall of its replacement Galaxy Note 7 units, experts said

While I will still buy Samsung products in other departments. TV, Appliances etc. I will never buy another Samsung phone probably ever. I have been a 2 phone owner for several years now. 1 iPhone and 1 Android so it's time to start looking for a new Droid brand.

Dammit. I have a replacement note7 and I love this phone. Already have all my music and pics and smart switch let's me keep all my texts.

I might be moving back to Apple for the first time since the iphone 4s over this.

I wonder if the cell phone was designed to be able to remove its battery if it could have been less disastrous. The customers could receive a less shitty battery.

I have to say that it wasn't the battery issues that made me return the phone and go back to my iPhone. The performance left a lot to be desired.

If they need to do a second recall, that is seriously going to hurt their mobile business for years to come. How can you trust a company that screws up twice like this and has your phone literally catch on fire.

Three times. One of their dryers also exploded and may need to be recalled. When more than one product line is going boom, then the brand definitely takes a hit.

I'm not sure why you would only not trust the Note line of Samsung phones... I'd imagine anything with the Samsung branding would suffer from this.
Because they have an excellent track-record overall?
The issue seems to be based entirely around the Note 7 which at this stage clearly has some fundamental design flaw.
This will definitely rock consumer confidence in them but up until the Note 7 they have been making smartphones for over a decade now without any more issues than their competitors.

Well, on the plus side, I guess I won't have a problem finding a Galaxy S8 when they go on sale. And if Samsung is smart, the GS8 will be the highest quality and most thoroughly tested phone they've ever put out. But boy, if they fuck that one up too...

Samsung needs to recall all the Note 7's and not replace them. Investigate the problem thoroughly and relaunch the Note line as the Galaxy 8 Draw next year. This is such a prolonged embarrassment for the company, I don't understand why they are letting this drag out for months like this.

This phone is great, easily the best phone I've owned. But if this gets recalled again, it's going to be real hard to stick with them.

I have said it before and I will said it again. God is a removable battery fan.

Also, waiting for The Faceless Master declare Samsung can pry his Note 7 from his cold, hard fingers.

Hopefully this marks the return of removable batteries. If companies are scared of having a Samsung-like debacle, give us removable batteries so we don't need to send our phones back in for repair, we can just swap out the battery. Consumer wins.

lol a recall of a recall. Jesus Christ Samsung get it together.

edit: The fact that this phone has no removable battery invalidates it from being the best phone on the market.

How can you fuck up a flag ship product this badly? This is worse than Xbox 360 red rings. Possibly the worst screw up ever for a mass market product.

Red Ring hit sooooooo much more people, and it happened regulary even to peole who went through first replacement process. It affected more than half of all produced xbox 360 consoles in those years.

This is much much less rare, but sadly, result of the flaw is fire.

wow, them going with sealed batteries must have been one helluva betrayal to you.

I like this phone but if they recall i'm switching to a Pixel. This is the 3rd time since early September that i've had to go through the annoying process of setting up my phone, re-downloading and logging into all my apps, etc. I'm not doing it a 4th time on another Samsung phone.

Have they disclosed what is causing the problem? Poor battery material, OS loop, etc? There is something at the base level that is the core of the issue here.

That said I really hope this forces them to double down on their manufacturing process because I love the Note series. Its one of the few lines that pushes the smartphone experience, although lagging in the past few iterations.

Which is much, much worse. A gaming console is a non-essential entertainment product, if it stops working it's a minor annoyance as you get it exchanged.

Cell phones are probably the most essential device that most people own. You carry it with you 24/7. You rely on it for emergencies, you rely on it for work and tons of day-to-day things (alarm clock, reminders, etc). Nobody wants a phone that could blow up on your face as you're taking a phone call, or burn your house down as it's charging on your nightstand, or set your car on fire as your driving.

Not worth the risk.

The Faceless Master now has the face of the enemy in the eyes of GAF.

The replacement Faceless Master will have a new hat.

That reminds me the original Xbox had an AC adapter issue where 1 in 10,000 were affected and they sent out new adapters.

To me, whats irritating is the fact the note 7 is the best phone they have ever made.

This is exactly how I feel. For me, it's the best phone ever made period.

Really hope this isn't the case, not over a single incident that may or may not actually be a replacement unit and likely wouldn't even be news were it not for the previous issues. Don't most models of phone have one or two examples of this sort of thing happening globally?

I doubt they ever would have had the issue in the first place but yeah. A battery recall would just be a nasty bump in the road.

I think the Galaxy brand itself is tarnished.

I bought one from CEX where I work. It's a pre recall device and I've emailed Samsung support yesterday. Will they swap it? Also amazing phone!

Inb4 Damsung recalls the Note 7 again and The Faceless Master doesn't send the phone in.

In reality though, how could Samsung have messed up this bad?

What? This is way worse than RROD. On the scale of severity, it's on par with the Toyota braking fiasco and could be worst if there is a second recall.

IIRC From the FCC release a while ago, it was the battery expansion coupled with a slight pinch from manufacturing tolerances that caused the anode and cathode to short, which was different than the initial story of a manufacturing issue with shorting anode/cathodes.

Or, to put it another way, the battery dimension tolerances are too tight, hence the problems we see now.

In addition to this potentially being very dangerous, this thing has just released. There is no saying how widespread this problem is and if (emphasis on if) Samsung really recalls the recalls, it is evident that they don't even know why these phones catch fire. For all we know a much larger percentage would've catched fire eventually, we simply cannot know at this point in time.

Red ring didn't total a car, ground a plane, or burn people.
