Came home to this horrible news -- Nujabes has been pretty high on my last.fm for a while now.

Been depressed all night... After listening to his stuff nonstop I'm starting to mellow out just because his music is so good and because it has such an effect on me.

We've lost one of the greatest artists of all time. RIP Nujabes. You're already missed.

...though I wonder what artists will give him the Dilla treatment, and rap over his unreleased beats. I could definitely see the likes of Ghostface, DOOM, and DEFINITELY Mos Def going for it.

Fuck. I'm just about to get on a plane to Tokyo and find out. Defineitely going to head off to one of his stores now.

R.I.P the greatest hip hop producer of this era

If you haven't heard any of those, go check them out. Also, The Ristorante Mixtapes, while more upbeat, are dope as fuck.

RIP

Also, ya'll need to get Pase Rock's bullshit as usual album, not only is it dope because he's a dope MC, but most of the production is Nujabes.
Ristorante was great, it's still so difficult to find a complete tracklisting.

Substantials album - to this union a sun is born is worth checking out too, he worked on a bunch of production for that.

ugh just scrolling past this thread is depressing...this dude alone is like at least 40% of the music i listen to nowadays and now he's gone :/

Tell me about it. I listen to his songs every day literally.
And when i listen to him now, it somewhat makes me sad.:(

Wow, that totally sucks. I'm actually visiting Tokyo right now and wanted to go find some of his music while I was here. Bought "Modal Soul" down in Shibuya this evening. RIP, dude.

Whoa! That sucks. Didn't know his work outside of Camploo, but as saida million times, Samurai Champloo's soundtrack is off the hook. RIP.

"Your death actually touched me more than the king of pop....may you rest in peace Jun."

...sometimes even youtube comments make sense...listening to all of his albums non stop...may your good soul rest in paradise dude.

Such a sad loss. I always kept hoping him and one of the big names would get together and do a collaboration. He really could make some killer beats

I listen to Nujabes tracks every now and then, especially when I'm somewhat depressed or can't sleep. So I won't say that I'm a fan, I don't even like hip hop, but the music is fantastic and helped me through different situations. It feels like losing a friendly classmate or neighbor you liked, but never really knew. It's just sad.

This is terrible. I listen to his music whenever I need to unwind. Especially hit the mood when I used to walk around before the sunsets.

Been listening to Feather all day. The last lyric really hit me. :(

RIP Nujabes.

Shiiit. Saddest news I've heard all week.

Regardless of one's music preference, everyone should give his music a listen. And not just the Samurai Champloo soundtracks but his Modal Soul album.

His songs Reflection Eternal and Mystline were the reasons why I decided to learn how to play the piano.

RIP

Damn it, I just found out. ;_;

I loved Champloo's soundtrack, one of the biggest things that got me into the show. I'm really surprised they were able to keep this under wraps for so long.

Rest in Peace.

yep me too. :( been blastin is genius all day today! :(

worst musical death for me since Cash or MJ.
like most, the Champloo OST introduced me to dude's amazing works, and it was a breath of fresh air - the mainstream hip-hop scene was stiffing. for me, and seemed content there. even conscious/backpackers felt like they were burning through their material and just playing their part.
then comes this dude, and i hadn't really been exposed to jazz-rap since pete rock's "petestrumentals", maybe some of madlib's stuff, but i didnt even know it was a subgenre. ive been so happy since then, exploring all of his/hydeout production's works like hiroto and such, even found the sound providers from there. im still going through fat jon's works, amongst others.

this guy reminded me of j dilla in a sense, the whole "your favorite producer's favorite producer" cause even in hip hop circles he doesnt really get play, but the discovery of his music, and much of his works becoming that very subgenre, are still like my diamond in the rough. sorry to see him go, damn sure glad he came.

Only just found this out today and I am heart broken. Fuck. What is freaky is that I had put on Modal Soul going to and from my sister's birthday party over the weekend and everyone was digging it.

:(

was the crash caused by the earthquake?
I don't believe so.

I've been listening to his stuff non-stop now. Grabbed a few mixtapes he whipped up and have been ripped from cassettes. Still love throwing on that Shing02 tribute to him, told a friend if they had done Luv (Sic) pt 3 straight after that I would've lost it. Love the Luv (Sic) trilogy.

Let's not get too crazy. Nujabes is good, but J Dillas influence, considering his relatively unknown status, was tremendous. And nothing compares to Donuts as far as I'm concerned, but that's more of a personal opinion. One of the top albums of last decade, in fact.

I don't think he was really trying to compare Nujabes to J Dilla, more in the sense that they were in familiar territory of "J Dilla/Nujabes produced this album? I gotta get it."

just purchased samurai champloo on BR due to this. it's $40 for the series on amazon right now ;p

awesome, thanks for the heads up! Been wanting to watch it again.

Mystline is one of the most powerful songs I have ever heard in my life. And all it is, really, is just a piano solo with a small synth beat behind it.
