Samurai Showdown II Xbox Live Arcade LIVES!

No fucking training mode. Are you kidding me. Not worth 800 points people please don't buy this shit.

To be fair, the original game never had a training mode.

Arcade mode is the training mode. In those days, you learned how to play by fighting actual opponents. No way in hell I'm not buying this just because a few people want to bitch about the lack of a training mode.

no super moves listed above the POW meter when it's full (shouldn't this be there?).

Hmm, yeah, there should be. If that's indeed true, that's a REALLY odd choice.

The only thing I think that is messed up is that Kuroko, the referee, is playable in ONLINE RANKED MATCHES.

Yeah, I agree with having a problem with this decision. Hmm.

The AES (console) version might have. Most AES fighting games had training modes, IIRC. But like you said, this version is MVS.

MEh at the 800 point price, there is no reasonw hy it should cost that much. Didn't MS3 cost 800 points too, wonder how bad that flopped... I'd rather put that extra $10 towards importing the Anthology on the PS2 if someone cold tell me if you have to pay monthly fees to play it online or not...

That's the point. I'm not going to pay 10$ for just the original.

Why the fuck would you need a training mode for Sam Sho II?

I don't know maybe um....to practice. Or is the game so simple that practice is not warranted.

People will bitch about anything.

OMGZ noez training mode !!11!!!111.

800 is a little steep especially after Fatal Fury which was 400 though. Still want.

You suck that fucking much??

i'd buy it, but, to play it properly i also need live gold plus a decent arcade stick. Too much for a game that can be played online for free.

I wonder why SNKP doesn't put this game on PSN: free online and in my case i already own the stick XD

I'd buy this, but I already bought the one off the Japanese PSN for 6 bucks.

So 6 bucks for Samurai Showdown 1 and 2, or $10 online SS2 with no extra features.

Yeah...

Yeah...

What extra features were you expecting other than an online mode? Also do you even have a 360, and are the PSN versions ports of the arcade or some PS version?

Yeah, you bought a release that had shitty PS1 ports of SamSho 1 and 2 with slowdown and dropped frames and some screwed-up looking effects for $6. (I know, because I paid $60 or so for the release when it first came out 10+ years ago.) So, not exactly something to be proud of.

I own the original AES cart of SamSho2 for my Neo Geo. Guess what? I paid $10 for the XBLA version. Why? Online.

I truly don't understand why people keep glossing over the online playability of the XBLA so much. Unless you've got a huge group of friends locally who also love SamSho2, being online is a HUGE deal. There's nothing worse in gaming than playing fighting games in single player mode, and now I can hop online (and, god willing, find people with good ping numbers) actually play SamSho2 the way it was meant to be played - against another human being.

I will, though, point out something I find stupid about the button set-up option in the XBLA version. You set up the controls per-side, and doing like most would do, I jumped into the options, set up the controls for what I assumed to be player one (which in actuality it "left player"), and hopped online. Got matched up, I was the right player, and couldn't figure out why my button set-up wasn't how I had just set it.

PS1 version of course, and yes, I own an Xbox 360.

To learn to consistently pull off moves without bitch goddess constantly sending her eagle to kill me while I pray I can wiggle the stick and buttons properly during a safe window?

Oh and to potentially NOT require gamefaqs for movelists...

SMH at people on this board act like $10 is a lot of money. I'm a poor hobo and this was easily an instant buy for me. Then again I live in a city devoid of people who can actually play 2d fighters so having Samurai Shodown 2 with online is like a godsend to me. People also need to take in consideration that 2d fighting on XBLA is practically barren with the exception of Street Fighter 2 Turbo and Fatal Fury Special.

After getting in some games with good opponents and little to no lag, seriously, this could possibly be the best 800 points I've ever spent on the Xbox Live Marketplace. It's funny, because I've been playing Soul Calibur IV lately, and the experience I just had with a $10 downloaded game from 14 years ago provided me in that short time far more enjoyment than I've gotten out of the days I've spent with a $60 next-gen fighting game.

I'd say far and away the best XBLA title I've yet to play, but Pac-Man CE would probably have to be tied for that spot.

I ended up buying it anyways. Dont really like how it controls with the pad so far cant do Genjurus POW move. But it plays godly online.

I figure the only way this game is getting played for me is with the analog stick. So far, not too bad, but still need to work on being more exact with certain movements so I can pull things off every time I want to.

Your not buying a faithful port of a classic arcade game that offers online multiplayer because of some training mode you want that never even existed in the game back then? Yeah, makes total sense. Let's not buy this great 2D fighting game that ended up being a damn good port just to send the word to MS that we don't want old school classic arcade games on XBLA. Christ.

There's something about a good Samurai Shodown duel that I can't quite find anywhere else. Matches tend to last the whole time limit, there's a calm quietness while your opponent decides his next move, and how the music conveniently picks up when the fighters go at it. In Street Fighter matches tend to go quick but SS2's they feel drawn out and the game's atmosphere pulls you in.

And the online has been very good to me so far. Around 20 matches in and only one with slight lag.

I'm going to pick this up now.

Who wants to take on my Jubei? :)

I'll bite. Gamertag: o ENK o

Since I haven't played in so long, getting in a little practice now.

What's Jubei's super move again?

Also, how do you throw?

I think it's half circle back, foward and weak kick.

Not good. Unless you have an arcade stick. And a little too expensive. Deleted the demo after 5 minutes.

$10 for one of the best 2D fighters out there online IS NOT TOO EXPENSIVE.

I really need a Hori Pad now. I keep loosing matches due to jumping/slashing when I'm trying to execute a simple fireball motion.

I love Samsho but the price just doesn't cut it. I will buy the PS2 version when the anthology hits though. It's not even bad on XBL but I need to hold my points for the bigger and better games coming soon.

I really don't get people. For less than the cost of a pizza, you can get an awesome fighting game that has withstood the test of time, and it's online.

Meh, I just look into the amount of work they put into a game, and IMO an old game like this should not be $10. Streets of Rage 2 was great and they added online to that for $5. Same goes for Golden Axe, Fatal Fury 2 Special, Ultimate Mortal Kombat 3, etc, etc... For what reason do MS3 and SS2 warrant twice the cost? Hell, even Double Dragon debut for $5 and they completely redid the graphics for that game.

It's the same compliant I have against games like Castle Crashers and Briad. Bionic Commando: Rearmed and Rez HD are a few examples of great remade games that sold for $10, but of which probably had higher production values. I just do not feel it's a value in comparison to other content on the marketplace, therefore I will not buy it until it's 400 points, even though I want it.

It's been years since I played a Samurai Showdown game. I tried it, and practically every time the CPU player got even close to me, he could instantly throw me for a massive chunk of health. It rewards a very careful style of gameplay, but it does almost nothing to teach you the basics of it, and that's going to be too frustrating for the average XBLA audience I think.

I see everyone's going for the "I'm hardcore and I learned the hard way" response as they quietly push their stacks of old EGMs to the side. Even then, 25 cents (or 50) a try to pick any character you wanted and play as far as you could to learn, versus a $10 commitment for a game you might not end up liking (or practicing over and over for a single match between only two characters while being constantly nagged to unlock it), you don't see a difference in that? It doesn't take anything away from the game to have a training mode, it just means more people will have at least half a clue what to do, instead of flailing quarter circle and half circle motions until they find a move that has a graphical effect.

How are BC:R and Rez HD even comparable in terms of effort?

Anyway, I'm curious about this. I'd take LB2 over SS2 any day of the week,
and SS2 always struck me as pretty overrated,
but I am kinda in the mood for it. Guess I'll grab the trial. Being able to play as the ref sounds bad, though; it's a weird situation, since the character seems to be an issue on one hand, but on the other the game is just trying to be accurate to the original. And he shouldn't have been in the arcade version in the first place.

Some common fucking sense for once. These people spent fortunes on launch PS3s and importing a controller that could rumble though. Go figure.

Amen. Gamers lap up the next gen tax but avoid old great stuff due to "high prices."
