Sandbox games with the best missions and sidequests?

I definitely agree that the world was really fleshed out, but I feel that they went for quantity over quality when it came down to those riddler trophies. There was just way to many and felt like litter after a certain point.

I am playing it now, and this is exactly how I feel. The sheer amount of trophies was overkill. Arkham Asylum handled them better, I think.

The other side missions are fantastic though.

Just realised my posts didn't really answer the question. In terms of missions and side quests the second and Brotherhood are probably the best. I thought the missions were really fun, especially in Brotherhood, there are a few notable segments where you are told you have to sneak into somewhere, and the task immediately sounds like its going to be a lot of fun
(I am talking about the mission where you sneak into the castello st angello and the collusseum)
. Their are side missions in each which provide more platforming/puzzle segments to complete.

rdr really?all i remember from the missions was ride from a to b,kill everything, ride back

And it was fun as hell. Plus you had random people being attacked, stolen horses, shit was fun!

Easily one of the most satisfying shooting games I've played.

Oh, and animal hunts ...

I actually thought the amount of riddler trophies was appropriate for the size of the game. They are there for people who love to collect shit, and I loved spending hours working my way through each of the areas, some of the puzzles had me banging my head against a wall though. At least it was easy to keep track of which areas had puzzles remaining in them.

Some of the puzzles are great, but on the whole most are very simple (and repeated often), which is why I agree with Lace. It really was quantity over quality.

Mercenaries 1. Deck of 52 system was awesome.

Same in Mercenaries 2 and almost same in Just Cause 2 with Colonels but yeah, it was awesome indeed

This RDR sidequest was the best of all sidequests from all games :

Got the solo 100% but can't remember this dude

No one played it, but The Saboteur was/is probably the best open world game I've ever played. Stealth mixed with sabotage, coupled with the evolving color palette. Tons of fun.

Currently replaying it and it is still so damn good!

Fallout 3 - Andale
Fallout New Vegas - Vault 11

This is why I still prefer linear games, because they are more focused and well thought out generally speaking.

I enjoyed RDR a lot but in spite of its missions. I'd say Skyrim has memorable and interesting quests I suppose.

I loveloveloved The Ballad of Gay Tony's missions. There was something really wonderful about exploring the glitz and glam of Liberty City with parachutes, fire rounds and sticky grenades. Everything felt awesomely over the top with Yusuf Amir, and protecting Tony from Rocco/Bulgarin felt more like fun than a chore. I also really enjoyed the base jumps/street war activities with Armando! Everything about it gave GTA IV a fresh feel.

I'd definitely agree with Red Dead Redemption. I was a huge fan of the slower missions with Bonnie; they felt integral in immersing the player into the West. The stranger missions were really perfect, while trying to become a Legend of the West felt awesome with crazy challenges. It's my favorite game of this generation (outside of Flower).

I've finally started playing Skyrim on the PC (hooray for joining the Master Race!) and after about 40 hours, I've spent most of my time messing around with the Thief's Guild and Companions quests. They feel utterly awesome- entering the Guild in Riften feels like I'm part of the Asssassin's guilds in AC! I hear nothing but good things about Dark Brotherhood missions, so hopefully I'll get there soon.

I am most excited about Sleeping Dogs. It looks to have an insanely good mix of great combat and an open world. Neon lights are glimmering in Hong Kong!

This is the second or third time I have seen The Saboteur mentioned in a positive fashion in recent non-related threads this week. My interest is piqued!

I first saw it in a game convention well before release and it seemed like it was doing a few things quite well, but then I never heard about it again and obviously forgot all about it. Care to elaborate more of your thoughts?

oh yea! The saboteur I beat this game 2 or 3 times. It's a great game one of the more under appreciated games of the last years. The blowing up of nazi tanks and communications can get a bit tedious after a while though.
