The Watch What Happens sketch was pretty funny, if only because I don't really like Andy Cohen. I've only seen enough of that Bravo thing from The Soup but it was still really funny.

Sofia as Fran hurt my head. Trying to combine those two awful accents is the real life version of the most annoying sound in the world.

Its seriously tempting to mute the tv and turn on Closed Captioning

Why is Pharoah never on? Is he just not a good writer, so he's never involved in creation of sketches that get airtime?

I hate to sound like an ass, but it's because he's black. SNL has always, ALWAYS been predominantly white, and in more recent years, jewish. Ask yourself, how many hispanics have been on SNL in all the years it's been on? When was the last time a dark-skinned black woman was on SNL? How about an Asian? An Arab? An Indian? How about someone with a southern accent?

For being based in a city that supposedly the "melting pot" of the world, SNL sure is monochromatic.

Nasim Pedrad is Iranian. Was born in Iran, even.

I wonder if the selection process that leads to white casts is because sketch comedy troupes are a largely white thing? Im' not sure. I do know that when I go to UCB shows, the vast majority of their casts are also white.

SNL started the careers of Eddie Murphy, Chris Rock, Tracey Morgan, etc. SNL has been a place for black comic talents to break out and become stars. Eddie Murphy got most of the air time during his 5 or so seasons of SNL.

Not to mention that people like Keenan Thompson are consistently in a ton of skits, despite not being very funny, IMO.

I think when you look at SNL, you have to realize there is a writing and clique dynamic behind the scenes that is the real story more than some kind of racism. If racism were a dynamic, im' pretty sure we would have heard about it. Instead, former castmates seem to praise Lorne for being a very fair person with how the show is run.

I dunno if it's a symptom of the black style of comedy, but quite often the latter bunch of those guys got typecast as the standard "goofy/angry black guy".

Maybe SNL has trouble attracting non-whites because they're scared of being perpetually typecast. (Although Nasim Pedrad manages to avoid it.)

Little kid bands should not be the musical guest on SNL unless they are, like, pervasively huge like Hanson or the Jonas Brothers or something. Really, who the fuck is One Direction?

Other than that, it was a pretty good episode. That Watch What Happens (Bravo) skit was so fucking spot-on.

It wasn't hard for Murphy to get airtime when he and Piscopo were the only two cast members to survive the 1980 meltdown. Rock and Morgan never got that kind of airtime (Tracy did after having been there for years). Tim Meadows should probably be who Pharoah looks to on how to make a place for yourself on SNL after a bumpy start.

Really liked the episode, hell Moynihan's erection made that Gilly skit watchable, and I hate Gilly.
McKinnon was really good in her first ep as well.

Hard to replace Wiig and Sudeikis. I have to admit that Wiig got a bit too much screen time - which makes her departure even harder. The rest of the crew has rarely the chance to shine and now 2 big players are leaving. So far McKinnon was funny but I seriouls doubt without real new talent season 38 will be as entertaining as this one.

If Hader leaves aswell they are done in my opinion - I like Armisen and the rest but they can't carry a whole season alone.

I enjoyed the "almost pizza" sketch. Hader and Wiig have really good on-screen chemistry.

As for the rest of the episode, the shampoo sketch wasn't bad and the quirky one was okay, but that's about it. Oh, and that band was horrible.

Almost Pizza and Drunk Uncle salvaged an otherwise dreadful episode.

Vergara had better comedic timing than I expected.

I guess the problem with the show is Seth Meyers, maybe? Their writing formula has become crazy stale the last few years. I mean, Hell, the Republican debates have been gold this year, and they can barely squeeze a few laughlines out of a 5 minute sketch about them.
