I like how mellow her musical performances have been.

That's the problem with the musical guests for the most part. Their objective is to convey the live aspect to the viewing audience, hence needing a lighter approach. Most of the guests go overboard with lighting and computer altered vocals which don't translate well.

SNL last week pulled a 2.4 18-49 and 6..5 million viewers so clearly people still watch sketch shows.

There was nothing awful, as is often the case, but it was very, very boring. A "scandalous" performance would have spiced things up a bit, but it was not to be.
