Save editing hack allows players to play duplicates and Galactus in UMVC3 online

Shortly after Cryin' Brian posted I found out how he edited the save (I do this stuff in my spare time with Xbox/PS3/Wii games) and it's kinda pathetic how this all turned out. I confirmed it in the fighting game post but didn't post the details (after editing it) out of respect for UMvC3 because of how this would turn out- the game not being patched and ruining it for everyone else. It's pathetic of Eventhubs to go ahead post this shit not only that but even show how to do it. I don't get what the fuck that websites problem is but they clearly have no shred of dignity for the larger scale problems that this poses for the game. Talk about lack of respect, Eventhubs.
What's funny too is that Cryin' Brian is like "Eventhubs, you guys suck, especially if you post this"

It's on Eventhubs while this smug like nature to the article. Trolled?
That's just my thoughts on it.

the real question is:
can we use Magneto's alt costume?

No you can't due to the nature of how disc locking works, it does go through a checking process (the download keys form XBLA/PSN). It checks the hard drive for the alternate costumes which is why; even on a JTAG, you need to download the files. You can do the same on SFxT but not access the characters.

Even though I hate those hackers in call of duty (really ruined online for older games) this is... kind of funny.

this guy at eventhubs got Magneto's alt costume, but I can't decipher his instructions well enough =/

and it seems that galactus' hex value still isn't public knowledge, the guys in the EH comments are trying to figure it out haha

edit: and where did you find the character costume hex values?
LMAO we are IN THERE!

If Marvel Disney is able to break Fox like they did with Sony for merch rights, then you will see something done about this or something new.

I actually don't want them to fix this.

What I mean is that... I don't want to just put out a bug fix for this over making a proper patch. If they are going to let shit rock then let that shit rock!

PATCH CONFIRMED!!!!!

WE ARE DEFINITELY IN THERE RIGHT NOW!!!!

I know nothing about this kind of stuff but would it be possible for this finding to eventually pave the way for a Project M type of modification to this game?

You can only do it via the PS3/360 emulator. This is just a save editor type thing so it's very limited in scope in terms of what you can do.

It took modders almost a decade to mod DMC3 with on the fly style switch (and it was on PC but the mod was usable on the PS2 emulator). That is about the time it would take for people to do a Project Marvel type thing.

And about the patch thing... if people figure out a way to get that Magneto costume in through the hack it might force Capcom's hand to at least patch this exploit. They made an exception for the costume a few years back when they couldn't have that costume anymore.

Can't restrain the King of Spain.

Are you sure about that? The last glitch let you play any alt costume without having the DLC, because all the costumes were on the disc already.

The funny part is that the characters are fully aware that they are playing with ditto copies of themselves and even yell out their own name when they tag into them (so Vergil says "Vergil" in his own voice when tagging into another Vergil). Deadpool who always has some type of 4th wall type of dialogue says "ME!" whenever he tags into himself!

There's actually an explanation for this. Remember how there was a sort of Mission Mode in the original MvC3? One of the missions was to get through Arcade Mode with a 3-person team made up of 1 character. So, when tagging in another character, they would say their own names then.

Although, since Mission Mode is not in UMvC3, it makes no sense for Vergil (or any of the 12 new characters) to call out their own names when tagging out. Perhaps Mission Mode was supposed to make a return in UMvC3, but Capcom had to scrap it?

Oh man completely forgot about that in MVC3!

The ultimate guys were supposed to be DLC for vanilla until the Tohoku earthquake hit and Capcom changed plans, I believe

Those sound clips were used in UMVC3 as well, since you can have 3 of the same character in H&H mode.

This won't have an effect on EVO guys. This really only messes up online play, for tournament play it's a non factor.

I seem to recall in an interview or something with Niitsuma saying they thought about putting multiple of the same character on the same team, but decided against it.

Characters saying there on names proves that it was a last minute cut. I always thought that would have been cool in an offline mode, or a separate online mode. More content is never a bad thing. Hey it was in mvc2 after all.
