Say Hello to the the Apple iPad

They made their own chip? :lol

Wait they seriously made their own chip? "It just screams"? :lol

Bet Qualcomm, Intel, ARM and NVIDIA are going to have a field day with this.

Honestly all this hype for something which is so utterly pointless. Laptop replacement? Dream on.

People saying they hope it's under $500 must be joking themselves. I predict $700+

that's asking for trouble on their end... I can see 700$ happening, but then I can also see waiting for a price drop :P

this is by far a luxury item.. most people have multiple machines that can do everything this device is trying to sell us.

It'll start high though. There are Apple fanatics who will pay virtually any price for the latest Apple tech.

Wow are you serious? Isn't their a DD service like steam that has this kind of interface?

Oh no, they totally ripped off GOG!
Except not, cmon it's fucking bookshelves, not exactly an original idea.

Engadget getting as bored and annoyed as Gaf!

We don't know about you, but using iWork wasn't one of our fantasies when we thought about what an Apple tablet would be like. This is nice... but it's iWork.

They should have slapped a rotating touchscreen in the MacBook Air and be done with it. Like the Dell Latitude XT2, but with better design.

This is pretty much a bigger iPhone and nothing else.

But it will sell buttloads like everything Apple makes.

I wonder if they would allow people to sit the iPad up as a screen and use their iPhone or touch as a pad in their hands, not worth the money buying a bigger screen but they would be silly to not allow something like that, hell you could even use a 2nd iPhone as a mouse :lol (like you can do on PC with an app)

... why would you not buy a laptop for the same price and size of this thing?

Do you really want to use touch screen controls for something like this? I think not.

Few years ago Apple bought a CPU manufacturer, PA Semi, founded by one of the key guys behind ARM CPU's. So yes, it's very believable that they've made their own chip, and it's a good quality one.

Would anyone else love them to announce a dock for this thing? If you could dock it, use a keyboard with it, as well as have some additional horsepower it could be someone's home desktop they could bring on the go (with admittedly fewer features when undocked).

Just like the Pippin, amirite?

Yeah this definitely has that mass-market appeal the ipod or the iphone has, but I can't help but think this thing is pretty useless.

Could be a neat device to have around for random web surfing on the couch, etc, but unless it's priced competitively with netbooks (which I seriously doubt) I don't really see the point.

I'm sure it'll sell regardless though.

So uh just a huge ipod touch. Meh.

Huge bezel makes me a sad panda

They need an obvious hook to trick people into replacing this model with the next one, obviously. :P

I saw that first picture in the OP and thought, thats a nice thin bezel (notice the thin gray bezel around the game frame in the center).

then I realized the whole giant black mass is the tablet in the second picture.:lol

I'm not an Apple fan at all, but I kinda like this. Unfortunately the inevitable ridiculous price will kill any desire I have for this.

I was in the market for a netbook until I played around with one. This seems like a good alternative to one. Of course so far what they've shown hasn't exactly impressed me either.

should be free 3g like kindle.

15$ a month for 250 MB, regardless of being a 'good deal' compared to other companies, is still ass raping us. ridiculous
