Scalebound announced for XboxOne (Kamiya, UE4, Platinum/Microsoft) [Port Beg = Ban]

Color me interested in this game. The henshin stuff was cliche but expected. It's not a Kamiya game without a transforming hero doing over-the-top things.

Aaand my hopes and dreams of Vanquish 2 are crushed yet again. I never really got into the dragonbashing thing so this doesn't look interesting thematically, but it's Platinum, so it can't be bad.
I could totally see Vanquish 2 happening on PS4.

They should do it to complete the console exclusive trifecta.

The CGI trailer is just meant to establish some key concepts.

You're a dude who's cool in that ironic Japanese way.

You're on some gorgeous lush jungle planet.

You're surrounded by butt-beasting kaiju.

You have a sword, bow, and a magic exo-suit made of scales.

You're friends with one of the dragons and surf on it.

There's a hydra the size of the Empire State Building.

You will likely suplex said hydra.
This is more than enough to make me buy this. Hell, the last two lines alone would make me buy this.

DMC4 dante is still the best....by far

So is this really a Kamiya directed game? I dont want to buy an Xbox One.

That's a good question. Kamiya was there, I saw him speak before the game trailer came out. But I didn't see any of that Kamiya flair in there. None of that over the top cool guy with crazy shit going on.

As someone with a world of patience for anything by Kamiya but is unlikely to invest in an Xbox One just for him, the main thing I took away from this announcement was that a Kamiya-led Star Fox is not happening this generation.

I was just watching the GT live stream and after the conference Geoff interviewed Phil Spencer. Phil mentioned that Scalebound is "First Party" which leads me to believe Microsoft owns the IP.

This didn't look good, but since it's Kamiya, he has my trust. Still, it's weird that the man known for the most stylish action games of all time can churn out something so generic.

Also, why a CG trailer for this?

Someone tweet him and ask lol or maybe tweet JP.

I don't think it's a bad game.

but I think it's his worst action game. With all the minigame sections I just can't bring myself to replay it. At least at this point.

So I'm hoping he dials that shit back here. Make a good, fun, creatively open ended combat game and focus on that.

That's why Viewtiful Joe and Bayonetta are the GOAT. If you're going to make an action game stick to action is all I mean with 101 criticism.

You don't like the minigames but WJ is the GOAT? I think you need to replay the latter, the amount of gimmicks in WJ is ludicrous.

looks extremely underwhelming. It is Platinum though so I'll wait to see more. But yeah I would not have made its debut with this trailer only.

Not surprising.
What IPs are there that PG owns themselves? W101 is Nintendo and I think Sega owns Bayo.

Yeah, this isn't so much a moneyhat as it is a "wouldn't have existed in the first place if MS didn't fund its development." Kind of like TW101.

I'm all for MS making these kinds of investments. Certainly there are far, far, FAR worse things you could throw money at than another action masterpiece by Platinum.

How are they developing another game when bayonetta 2 isn't finished yet? I thought platinum was a fairly small to medium sized studio? In anycase I hope they change the art design and main character... looks too generic.
They're big enough to develop two games at once, or at least have one game in full production while another game in pre-production.

Is it weird that Bayonetta 2 motivated me to get a WiiU but Scalebound isn't even getting me to twitch for the XBone. I mean if I had seen gameplay maybe I'd feel more but I'm not just not sold by that trailer

I'm not the only one am I?

For me, it's the character. I've personally never liked Devil May Cry all that much. Dante never came off as all that cool to me. Bayonetta then popped up and for some reason she made it all look fun to play. Scalebound currently gives me too many DMC vibes.

It may also be because the Wii U had two Platinum games and Smash announced, all while buying the console for $200. Xbox One isn't as exciting to me. Almost all the games that have excited me most about it are also likely to end up on PC.

This could be the best selling Platinum title, if Microsoft is actively working to restrain the traditional Platinum quirk and Japanese-ness and make the aesthetics surrounding great gameplay marketable to a wider audience.

I also hope they force P* to drop the mission select menu and make an open world title with DMC/Bayo combat.

I'm aware all three have gimmicks.

101 has by far the most frequent, the most complex and the most distracting minigames though.

Joe opens a stage with a simple sidescrolling shooter. 101 makes it an entire 20 minute level....and throws it in again on the last level.....and during the final boss......... and GRADES YOU ON ALL OF THEM

This is a stylish character action game where you have the Crysis suit and you punch/kick the shit out of Monster Hunter dragons.

Just wanted to put the awesomeness into perspective.
