School shooting in Finland: eight dead, shooter dead

Personally, I blame Finland's mandatory military. Nothing good comes from that.

I really don't see any connection between military and this school massacre.

Total death count is 8 and the shooter is apparently still alive.

EDIT: Wow ! I really didnt know that 15 year old kids can legally carry gun in Finland.

The logic doesn't really make sense to me. You're unhappy with the political structure of your environment so the first choice in your head is to attack a bunch of unarmed students who really don't have any say in how that government is organized?

It would be bad enough if he had gone crazy and attacked a bunch of government officials (...not much sense though, considering this is fucking FINLAND). I would hate to be a criminal psychologist.

Maybe he figured he's take out the future pioneers... honestly I never understand any of these shootings. I really don't think there's much to understand either.

Actually, some of them are borderline understandable because they're in essence revenge killings, kids being bullied at school or an employee somewhere wronged by his boss/workmates, you know the drill.

But in this case, at least from what we know so far, the guy just appears to a trigger-happy sicko with a vague motive.

Here is my take on this.

This is just some mixed up kid who took the ideas he saw in popular media too seriously. He most likely had a messed up home life, and a lacking social life at school. He retreats into violent games and movies to escape, and then starts illogically applying the themes in those things to his life. I hate to stereotype, but thats how it goes down.

Your absolutely right, this makes no sense. People like this tend to make mountains out of molehills. You know the type, the ones that think a school not letting you wear hats in class is equal to Nazism.

I'm quite sure he will make full recovery and court will sentence him life in prison which is basically 15 years here in Finland. Oh and he will have he's weekend holidays and all that junk. Some times it really feels like Finnish legal system is a joke. And no shower rapes in here cos many our prisons includes personal showers... Finnish prisons are like freaking *** hotels !

From what I understand weekend holidays are a perk you get for behaving good for a long time, not some rule applied instantely.

He shot himself, but survived. Should be interesting to see how he responds to the media spectacle that is sure to happen.
 
Calling himself a darwinist and acting in the "interest" of humanity by reinstating "survival of the fittest" is a common mistake by people of this kind. First of all they obviously haven't really read Darwin.

Darwins most overlooked works by so called "darwinists"; The Descent of Man, and Selection in Relation to Sex and The Expression of the Emotions in Man and Animals, shows that with humans, as with many other higher animals, survival of the fittest is only an underlying layer, under sexual selection and social organizations controlled by emotional bonds.

It pays off to be a nice guy. Being altruistic impresses the opposite sex by showing an abundance of resources and makes your social "safety net" stronger.
 
He said he believes in natural selection and hates humanity. He has also stated his admiration for Hitler and Stalin. According to his YouTube page he didn't want anything to be blamed for the shooting "not books, not computer games, not anything" and that it was something he had planned "in my own head".
 
Stuff like this is so messed up. The whole youtube/internet link is what'll be buzzing the media for the next few days. Horrific.
