In QM motion, the movement is random, meaning not time symmetric. Time crystals move in the same periodic motion over and over again which is incredibly intresting. The perpetual motion is I beleive an attempt to keep it in this state without adding energy, in the same way superconductors can circulate current esentially forever.

It looks like any attempt to extract meaningful (non QM) energy out of the system will he stopped when perturbing the system.

Yeah. Best as I can understand it, they can basically exist in isolation forever, which at the moment is more useful for the purposes of study and expanding our understanding of how the hell time works, rather than immediate energy applications.

That's a one atom wide time crystal. At least, that's what they look like under a microscope, since they are literally one dimensional and can't be seen by the naked eye until someone gets a lot of them to make one big enough to see.
