I would say this is similar to guys thinking sex should be like they see in porn. They get a rude awakening the first time they pull out to try blow it in her face.
:lol
Even the worst sluts don't appreciate that, f*ck the heck (well, at least the first couple times ;).

From what I gather, Sex In The City is a bunch of gay male writers projecting their lifestyle on 40+ year old women. I'd hope in reality that the average 40 year old woman has found a decent guy to settle down and start a family with, since I run into cougars in the clubs and bars ever so often and they are sad and depressing.

Depends on where you are... 40 and single isn't completely outside the norm in many parts of NYC- for men or women. If it's a suburban or rural area, then it's a whole other story.

so funny cuz it's true.

but i'd use the term gay old queens.

The thing that really bugs me is the guys in these movies would not be considered romantic in real life. They would be creepy.
:lol
Stooge, you are so right.

You go to movies for first dates? Whats the point? Sitting in the dark for an hour and ahalf isn't exactly engaging.

the movie is after dinner/whatever shenanigans i think of dummy.

Wrong actually :S . All of the writers are women, however one of the lead writers is indeed a gay man. One out of many many women.

I think you need to re-read what I quoted from Stooge...

And yeah bitches are delusional, not just when it comes to romance either.
My stupid Mother still thinks she's going to make it as a TV presenter (she's pushing 50.)
Yeah Mum you were pretty hot when you were in your 20s but you're old and wrinkly now! Goddamn.

I blame that old hag from Sex and the City for making my 50 year old Mother think she's still got it. Goddamn I hate that show :lol

All the hating on S&C sound like something a soccer mom would say about videogames that violent video game made my son act out!

If a girl can't seperate her life from the lives of the tv characters, thats her problem, not the TV shows

(I've never seen S&C)

The women were in their 30s in the series (except Samantha who was older). But you've never seen an episode have you?

We know that!
That's the whole point of the thread.
90% of women are crazy bitches, therefore TV shows that feed their delusions should be banned so that they don't get any crazier!

:lol

Actually I'm ironically man enough to admit that this fits me to a T.

Most women I date hate Romcoms too.

I wonder what happened with me.

Keep on not reading what I was referring to man. The response was to DJ Tiesto talking about the "reality" of 40ish women being unmarried... you know, real life.

You also haven't read the rest of the thread - where I talk about the show because I've seen it. I've seen more episodes than I care to admit. I wasn't referring to the characters in that post, but thanks for stopping by.

There are just as many crazy bitch males as there are crazy bitch females. Look no further than this forum for proof.

No. Women are crazy and men are jerks. *sigh*, I thought this was common knowledge...

Captain obvious to the rescue....

I've always had a rule. On first dates I take them out to a really random movie. The best one was when I actually managed to take a date to Jumper :lol

We managed to stick around for 40minutes and then left.

Same. exact. date. Me and my now gf did on our first date. We stayed for like 40 mins as well and left that shit.

Eh, it was a vicious cycle. A college relationship that went post-college and the difficulties of emerging into adult life while being held back by the college life strings. I would get away, then be drawn back into the mess by "emergencies." It was a yo-yo... point A point B, couldn't escape. One day, it broke and thankfully for good! My gf now is absolutely amazing, so down to earth... in a way that I didn't think women could (after the previous experience).

Well at least you had the option of money. :) Man, those days were rough... POOR as hell. It was vicious though, because she made me feel like I was less of a man because I was just out of college with a terrible job making no money... talk about a vicious cycle. I had no moment of reprieve.

I think she was a sex/relationship/lifestyle/Dougie Howser newspaper columnist... I think her column was literally called "Sex in the City."

LOL! I feel your pain man! I went through the exact same shit. But my issue was that I wasn't making enough money and I wasn't ambitious enough as a clinical scientist. WTF? I am so glad that that is all over now. I still love her though. But the thought of marrying her like i almost did scares me to frickin death! :D

The key difference is that things like SATC and other rom-coms is that they present themselves as attainable and desireable realities for their target audience. Obviously it's not really the fault of the TV show, but the impact is much more severe on people with reality problems than on similar reality-challenged people who play Halo.

Actually living in NYC and having your mid to late twenties in NYC in Manhattan was
an eye opener about women. Chicks who were super chill in college (I know a ton,
we went to school in the mid west) all of a sudden became super money oriented and
thought they were living in an episode of Sex and the City. They seem to get wiser with age
but still women are crazy and most of them will admit it :lol

This is why I still stand by the fact GAF = GAYF and is women-hating. :p

Either way, I don't see how this is really true. While I like romance movies, I realize they're fake, just movies. Then comes the whole debate of people being influenced by video games / Movies / Etc. It's like saying you like violent movies therefor you're gonna go out and kill people. Oh please. It's just entertainment for a reason.

lol.
i dont agree with this, chicks know pretty well that what happens in movies is all bullshit and not to believe it. But im a not saying im not a crazy bitch for other reasons. :lol

I don't think that being deluded by media is exclusive to women. How many dudes on GAF fantasize about being (or being with) christain bale? :lol

that's no fantasy...I've shaken his hand. Thats like second base right? :lol

We studied this in my sociology class a little when I was going to college. It's not just Romantic comedies that fuck up a woman's perception, it's everything going all the way to action movies. Men are portrayed one of two ways in modern media entertainment: either their masculine heroes, or they're sensitive lovers. Woman pick up on these things over the course of their lives and expect a man to be both masculine and sensitive which almost never happens.

I don't think it's GAYF doing the usual woman bashing - half the posters here have been complaining about their girlfriends :lol . I don't think the study is saying women are intrinsically drawn to romance movies but they do have an powerful part in creating the conception of what's 'normal'.

There's just a lot of anti-woman comments/threads on this forum which I've noticed before. So I was pointing that out. =p I got a PM about it from a couple other females on the forum before as well. Can I make a thread with some random study saying men are all lying delusional dickheads? :lol Not really, but you get my point. Studies like this are always silly anyway.

If ANYONE is that influenced by something meant for entertainment, they're just messed up anyway. Has nothing to do with their sex or anything like that. But I don't understand how you can bash studies saying video games effect violent behaviour and yet be all "supportive" of a study like this. It's just hypocritical.

I don't have unrealistic expectation of men, but I do try to have higher standards. But at the same time, I don't expect and guy to ride up on a white horse. If guys think they can dick around, cheat, be pigs then well, they can't expect women to like them.

Also, you don't think men have unrealistic standards? all the virgins on the internet in general I think sometimes develop very unrealistic standards. Since their only experience with women is the photoshopped porn they look at on the internet. Just like the likely more delusional women are probably more so the virgin ones that only have experience with their erotic romance novels.

Speaking of novels though.. I've found women that are more into obsessively reading erotic romance novels are generally more likely to have unrealistic standards than just people watching movies. based on my observations anyway.

Crap, I like violent movies AND romance movies.. I must want men on white horses and stabbing people to death!! I'm really psycho!! /sarcasm :lol =p

Just had a thought: We should have a neogaf cafe in every major city in American. You know, for nerd hook-ups and what not. We'd make mad fucking money, Jim Cramer-style.

fantasizing and believing are two different things.

Can you find one?

I make a LOT of anti-women comments on this site, but they're supposed to be light hearted or sarcastic (I know that doesn't come across easily on an internet message board.)

If any of my comments have ever upset your woman feelings, I'm truly sorry :(
Please forgive me, you crazy bitches (that goes for all 3 women on GAF)

Love Jim xxx

probably. There's "studies" like this on EVERYTHING. D:
Yeah, so-called "experts" at "universities" tend to do lots of "studies".

It took scientists to figure this out? Really?

From my own personal experiences not every woman is like that, but there were a few where they expect perfection in a relationship and the guy to be their Mr. Right. When one thing goes wrong then shit hits the fan.
