So fuligin has been invented.
(although the book cover is not very accurate)

Twas my first thought! Awesome that others remembered it too! One of the best series ever!

Those saying that it'll be a good stealth material, don't you think an blob of pure black is going to be more noticeable than one with actual camouflage? This seems more useful as a heat sink than any stealth uses.

Might be useful during night, particularly for flying stuff.

Pictures didn't load for me the first time I entered this thread. Holy shit, is like someone took the title of the show "darker than black" and made it a reality

This is going to revolutionize so many things, as long as it doesn't have any crippling downfalls

Well, like most carbon nanotube materials (or graphine), it's probably hellishly expensive to make atm.

But we'll probably fix that eventually, and then there'll be a lot of amazing applications.

But before those, I want an anechoic chamber with maglev suspension. Effectively floating in space. That would be as freaky as all shit.

I hope it at least doesn't reflect any light in full 60 fps, otherwise no sale. I want to wrap my house with this stuff.

I bet the CIA will be able to torture the shit out of people with this somehow. Like, here's a fucking maze we're gonna lock you in while we play scary monster noises.

I want a door made out of this. Ill have red leds behind the door so the light comes through the cracks but the material itself absorbs all. Then I'll invite some neighbors over.

I want to see what it looks like when someone shines a laser pointer on it. Can you even see the dot?

I like the way you think.

What if an entire room consisted of this material and you turned the light on? Everything would look black, but would it be a lot darker because none of the walls reflect light?

it would be like a single light in a complete void
horrifying

I think you would be able to see the lightbulb and nothing else?

this news story has been popping up about once a year since 2008. im still waiting for the stuff to become viable somehow.
