Scorpio Prep - 4K 60Hz HDMI Cables?

So I'm planning on upgrading my base PS4 and launch XBO to the Pro and Scroprio respectively soon.

I've just moved and will be setting up an in-wall installation for wiring and was having trouble finding the HDMI cables that will give me the ability for 4K 60Hz 4:4:4 chroma playback of games/media due to the amount of misinformation out there.

I know some will say that the it's all the same but some of my research (AVS Forum) shows that some of the "newest spec" labeled wires on Amazon are not capable of 4K 60hz even though they note being able to do so.

AVS Forum had some recommendations but the cables seemed to be costing hundreds for proper playback. Plus, that place is seriously intense sometimes and though I love setting up my home theater and the nuances of the audio and visual components, I'm not that hardcore.

I know the consoles will come with HDMI cables with the ability to do so but I will need more cables as they will be routed by way of receiver.

Anyone with experience or recommendations?

4k/60 4:4:4 isn't possible under the current standards. You can do 4:2:2 or 4k/30 4:4:4. If it's over a short distance any 'high speed' HDMI cable will do.

The cable only matters of dealing with longer distances, I believe problems start to occur at around 7m. I know because I recently moved and ran a HDMI cable from my PC into the living room TV from another room, first few cables I tried the picture just cut out every few seconds, tried a few cables including a £50 one thinking that would make the difference, in the end a £15 7m cable from Amazon did the trick.

Make sure that you have easier access to those cables in the wall, so that you have change them out, should the need arises in the future,

AV forums would be the place to get a definitive idea of the brands that are legit.

Also, always test them before you put them in the wall in the first place.

It's easy to forget basic stuff like that.

Amazon or Monoprice should work pretty well.

If you want a fancy cable, AVSForum turned me onto Blue Jeans Cables, who only sells them on their own site, but they're VERY good.

This is not entirely true.

You can absolutely do 4K/60 4:4:4 in 8 bit. You just can't do it in 10 or 12 bit (until HDMI 2.1)

OT: It's a digital cable. Get the cheapest one you can that's certified for HDMI 2.0

Yer my mistake, I realise I forgot to put at 10bit. That said 10bit at 4:2:2 looks better than 8 bit 4:4:4

An HDMI cable is an HDMI cable is an HDMI cable. It either works or it doesn't.

All HDMI cables support all current, past, and future HDMI specs so get the cheapest high speed one you can find as they are literally all the same.

There is one minor execption as there are cables with built in ethernet and that has nothing to do with picture quality. You might run into issues with getting no picture using cheap cables longer than 50 foot but are you using a cable longer than 50 foot?

https://www.cnet.com/news/4k-hdmi-cables-are-nonsense/

edit: additional research make sure its high speed (which basically all modern cables are and yes you can get a $10 cable rated for high speed)

why are you lying to me?

So what does the 18Gbps rating mean for 4K exactly? Literally nothing lol? For some reason I thought that 'high speed' rating was necessary for 4K/60..

Any hdmi 2.0x cable will do the job. All the 'x" revisions use the same 18gbit cable.

Upcoming HDMI 2.1 will use brand new cable, but that's still not out on the market.

The monoprice certified high speed ones are cheap and have been great for me. I have gotten signal dropout on 4K/60 content using the amazon basic ones.

wow so cheap!

Won't the 1X come with its own hdmi cable though?

It will, but I'm running everything through my Yamaha 7810 receiver so I need additional cables which are just as capable as the stock wires.

The Scorpio will come with a high speed hdmi cable. The Xbox One S does as well.

I'm well aware it will, as I said in the first post, I need more than just the one wire for the full connection to be completed. Also, I'm not sure a micro-HDMI is what you meant to link to.

Most definitely. I'd be shocked if the X doesn't come with 18Gbps HDMI cables.
Those mono cables I linked are perfect for upgrading the rest of your HDMI cables for other devices that might need that bandwidth.

I had no idea there were different types of HDMI cables.
Yeah in the beginning of the HD era the case was true that an "HDMI cable is an HDMI cable" and you either got signal or you didn't. Now with 4K 60fps 10bit HDR, it's a bit more important to pay attention to the type of HDMI cable you're getting in terms of total bandwidth. This is why we're seeing labels such as Certified Premium HDMI cables since those enable that needed 18Gbps+ for that quality of signal.

If you're buying from Monoprice, they often have 20% off sales (about 2 a month or so). If you can wait, you can get their great cables even cheaper. They just had a sale ending yesterday. I'd guess July 4 will be the next.

It sure would be nice if they made the outer appearance distinct, like how USB 3 cables have blue connectors.

Good tip regarding usual monoprice sale and fully agreed on the distinct appearance. It would be super beneficial for future consumers. They all look freaking identical now and its a damn mess for people that don't know about the necessary bandwidth needed for 4K 60fps.

I even spaced out the OP to make it easier to read. :/

Sorry for some reason I thought you were just stating you had done in wall wiring and needed help finding cords to go with it. I didn't think bulk spool would be that difficult to find with ratings since contractors usually push for that stuff to be as upfront as possible.

No, 18gbps is not the thing to look for. Otherwise my redmere cables would work as well. Many users are finding out that their cables that claim 18gbps 4k/60 in specs are not capable of displaying highest video quality on ps4 pro and xbox one s. The best bet is 'certified premium' cables and just looking through forums for confirmed compatibility from oeople that actually purchased cables. I've seen a lot of bad suggestions from those that are basing their assumptions on specs and outdated articles on this subject.

Do you have any links to cables you've had success with?
