Shetland as expected. Still only 65k votes counted. I think that yougov guy must be pretty happy at the moment, I can see it ending up around 54, 55%. I wonder if Yes will briefly take the lead at some point.

Western Isles next. Another tiny pop but "yes" were expecting 60% so might be a good indicator.

Summary so far

Sky News is a bit conservative and much like certain popular US news channels. Avoid.
It;s slightly useful when you have a slightly BBC UK bias towards the left.

But most people ware wise enough to use sources, bloggers, alternative balanced new channels and their own judgment.

Heard the opinion that SNP and referendum backers, while controlling the process, made it seem more appealing to the "Yes" side by the mere posing of the question, as a "No" has a negative connotation and we tend to want to associate to positive connotations.

If the questions was, "should Scotland remain a part of the Union" Yes or No, then the results would've been even stronger for the Union campaign.
I think the question is pretty clear. Remain part of union is less clear.

Still much better than the quebec question.

Do you agree that Quebec should become sovereign after having made a formal offer to Canada for a new economic and political partnership within the scope of the bill respecting the future of Quebec and of the agreement signed on June 12, 1995?

They really were given almost every concession so that the vote could be considered fairly absolute.

  • The right to set the question
  • Reduction of voting age to 16
  • Simple Majority instead of Super Majority

A strong No in these circumstances gives Cameron more leeway now to dither on further devolution, it is inevitable, but on a more protracted timescale, and linked to solving several constitutional issues, rather than just "Keep Scotland sweet".

Que?

That should have been the unionist campaign. We are not that different, we all think Gove is a cunt. Vote No and we will have a public hanging on Arthur's Seat.

Shetland has less than 500 in the 17-21 demo. The odds of accidently fucking a cousin must be huge. Jura will be more inbred than the royals.

Not a public hanging, instead arm teachers with old school board rubbers and let 'em stone him with them.

I'm not sure there was a venue large enough to hold all the teachers lining up though, for sure. :D

Having had enough of them thrown at me as a kid by teachers, I can tell you it would have been a painful death :P

I wonder if Scotland's like Iowa, where we pronounce well known place names like Nevada and Milan all f'ed up.

Seems Union is set to stay. That was probably the last best chance the movement had to win genuine separation for perhaps decades or much, much longer.

I hear that. My dad is a teacher, not a fan of Gove.

At the very least, they have got some devolution of UK Parliament powers. The question is, how far will Westminster go?

Gaelic is such a poetic sounding language. Love it.

My dad tried to encourage me to learn it once, yeah, that didn't happen.

I would but the BBC's live stream is UK only, and RTÉ's coverage isn't nearly as extensive. Ah well. More antagonistic statements, elbow jabs and smirking ahead...
