Anyway, here's my submission for Half-Life 2 (although it is technically from episode 2):

1) Contains Alyx. This was a must. HL2's friendly NPCs are what elevates the game to greatness.
2) Is an open, outdoor space. One of the big things that sets the series apart from other shooters.
3) Fighting a large, extremely alien, non-traditional enemy. Not a zombie or a soldier.
4) Subjective, but: good composition. It's just a nice shot.

Lack of gravity gun on this shot completly destroy the screen =P

It's actually the second crab battle (over the water and up the slope) and the 5HP Valk got struck by a lucky crab claw for 11dmg in one hit!
