seattlepi.com: Wii Nov 19th and $250

You want a SURPRISE? Wait until the damn conference starts then you ungrateful tool.

What difference will that make? How will them announcing a Nov 19th launch at the conference surprise me.

A Oct 29th or something launch would have surprised and pleased me.

This is kinda bullshit, but at least there's a whole game in there.

This is actually what I've been predicting since announcement. If there's a second controller in there, I'd actually go as far as to call it a fair deal... if you want Wii Sports.

Which I do. Very, very badly.

Since when? I actually tried to trade in ATV Offroad Fury 2 - when I got my second PS2, that was the game that was packed in. EBGames refused to take it because of the Not for Resale label

we have like 3 on the shelf at my store and i traded mine in yesterday lol

Neither do I, but the end of the world posts are right on que.

By tomorrow people will be comparing this price announcement to PS3s.

I said it wouldn't be the dealbreaker. It will just be standing in line.

Boy some of you Nintendo fans are mean...I'm still getting your system but people have a right to react and be dissapointed in some cases.

For everything that's confirmed to be packed in so far, I think it's about twenty bucks too expensive because usually when you have a game packed in you get the game at a discount (usually about $20). But I'm not going to go into a fit about twenty bucks. I'll say that Nintendo's slightly screwing me, but it interests me enough to where I still want to play it. I suppose if your not totally enthralled with the ideas of the wiimote, then maybe it's too much for you, but this doesn't apply to me.

Well goodnight y'all. I've seen enough.

Hopefully I'll wake up in the morning and find out this was all a bad dream.

Yeah I don't think we were supposed to know till tomorrow. :lol

Man, Nintendo's ninjas are good.... Iwata can release them even during a conference. :lol

I'd love for MS to drop the core to $199 and come in under the Wii. Yikes.

Except MS' goal of launching this early and having a core pack was for them to make money this generation?

Why do we always see the most retarded posts? MS isn't even trying to compete with Nintendo.

:lol I can't understand the doomsaying going on because it's $50 more than what most believed it would launch at. It's not like you're going to get standardized Wii-like gameplay on another system for a better price. And so what if Zelda isn't there on day one. It's promised to release before end of year, so the worst that can happen if they stick to that promise is that you'll pick up TP 3-5 weeks later. Sheesh. GAF's so sensitive.

It was more a point of the relative tech and pricing in the systems. And MS can hold off on a price drop for a long time (not this holiday) and still undercut. Core going for the low-end, Premium the high end.

I'm dreaming of a one thread future for this news. Lock this shizz.

Well, then you certainly aren't helping it get closer to its likely locking by continuing to post in it, now are you?

That's totally irrelevant to Nintendo, though. The price is so high, even though it's slightly improved GameCube hardware with a cheaply-developed pack-in, because Nintendo is selling their system at a profit in hopes of making money, while MS continues to sell theirs at a loss in hopes of getting market share.

Let's say, for argment's sake, that Nintendo is making $80 of profit on each system sold, though I'm sure at that price it's more slightly higher. Let's also say that Microsoft is losing $50 for each 360 sold, though I'm equally sure it's slightly higher than that. Nintendo sells 500,000 units in America this holiday season, a figure they can easily reach with a brand new launch, while Microsoft sells 1,000,000, based on stuff like Gears of War and people coming to your "it's only $50 more!" conclusion.

The outcome of that scenario is that Nintendo is now $40M richer, while Microsoft is $50M poorer. And as much as we bitch about the price, remember once again that we're not necessarily Nintendo's market here. You can buy a Creative Zen MP3 player with more storage space than an iPod for a lower cost, but guess which one still moves the most units. This is exactly the approach Apple takes with every single one of their products and it serves them very well--as it has served Nintendo in the past. You don't like the price, and I'm not crazy about it either, but it's exactly correct from a business standpoint.
You have no idea how the industry works do you?
sony demonstrated that the razorblade model works very well in this indusrty and dethroned Nintendo.
Nobody is saying Nintendo should eat a big chunk of the hardware cost, what we are saying is they should not have such a greedy and myopic business strategy that it inhibits the growth of their install base (wich is nigh insignficant) for the sake of making profit on hardware instead of simply taking a few dollars or just breaking even on production cost to make it more attractive to "non-gamers"

the story was pulled .. probably because Nintendo wanted to show some games and the internet thing before releasing the price . Which would have been a lot better.

Is anyone else hoping that the 250 doesn't include an extra controller? And does anyone else secretly hope that controller costs 49.99? Am I a bad person ? :lol

So are you saying it will be something else that will be the dealbreaker. If so, don't tell. I'd prefer not to rehash old arguments.

Not fussed with the price, but extremely surprised at the date of release. Would have thought it would have been earlier.

Are you joking. This is a serious trial-and-error phase. Somethings are not going to work well and somethings will. Remember the first shitty DS launch software. They took about a year to figure things out. So pretty much we are getting shitty ports and tech demos at launch. Save for perhaps Zelda.

Until you throw in a game and a memory card or hard drive...

No way, man. Haven't you heard that the latest "in" thing is to NOT play games on your new VIDEO GAME CONSOLE?
