They want you to buy a USB connector, probably. That and I think wireless networks are much more common in Japan. Don't qoute me on that though, I just know that Japanese people like their stuff wireless.
 
i hadn't heard about the usb adaptor. i thought they just expected people without wireless networks to buy that ds dongle dealy.

like i said, youre in with the thinking of oh its just $50 more ... whats $50? a measly $50, I mean if you were going to spend $200 why is it such a big deal to spend 50 more? ... well if I thought that way, then if I was now going to be spending $250, thats pretty close to a 360 at $300 ... so hey whats $50 more, might as well get the next best thing, its only 50 ... oh look here, a 360 premium at $400! ... well I mean since I'm spending so much in the first place I might as well spend the extra hundred and get the next best ... I mean ... its only a $100 more ...

there is such a thing as a cut off line for some people
 
This news is pretty disappointing, to be honest. Even $229 would seem leagues better. I'm glad you get Wii Sports with it, but now I pretty much feel like I'm forced to pay more to get a game included that I don't particularly want. And IGN is reporting $40 for the controller and an additional $20 for the nunchuck?!?! WTF to that one....basically $60 for another controller?!

And as far as the games, I was really hoping for something similar to iTunes, with NES about $1.99, SNES $2.99, and N64 $4.99 or something. Charging anything at all for VC games is pure profit so I don't see why they don't price them so low people can't help but want to download tons of them. At the current prices, **** that.

Because Nintendo's reasoning for pricing it at 250 is because they can? At $200 they have all of the history of every Nintendo home console behind them, right? Didn't each of them launch at 199.99? The japanese system is launching at the same price.

The problem Nintendo has is if they go too low, suddenly people will wonder "hay why is this one so cheap." And well, Nintendo doesn't want people to actually wonder why their console is so cheap -- once they get home and turn it on and realize they bought it a few years ago as a GameCube they'll figure it out for their own.

But by then, Nintendo has your money. If that's the right price for you, then by all means scoop one up. I'll get one when it's $150 or $199 or if Twilight Princess is considerably better on Wii than it is on GameCube.

As to why I'm in this industry the answer is obvious: 2007.
 
Will get it after a price drop. It is more or less the same hardware as the GC, which is like $200 less. I thought the controllers would make the price higher, but seeing the accessory prices it doesnt seem so.

$149 would be a fair price for the hardware, I am willing to pay $199 too, but not $249

I knew you were going to get a kick out of these threads. I'm laughing at all of the clone threads that are popping although this 16+ page thread is at the very top and all of the oh-so-unnecessary-yet-hysterical damage control that's being thrown around.:lol

This also makes me wonder if they will package a usb connector with the Wii. For some it would clear the hurdle of having to buy it seperately. A lot of people don't like having to buy extra stuff, even if it's cheap.
 
So you are telling me that you haven't bought another machine since N64?

Or did you make a post launch purchase of an XBOX, PS2 or GCN?

Yup thats right ... I've always wanted but couldnt justify. I got a PS2 for christmas a couple of years ago and recently sold it ... I just bought a GCN however a couple weeks ago from a friend for $40 :D what a steal

Good. So, if you want a Wii at LAUNCH, then forgo a future PS2 or GCN game purchase.

Are you trying to tell me that the belt is SO tight that the extra $50 bucks is a deal breaker?

If that was the case, why not wait like you did on PS2 and GCN?

If you REALLY want the Wii at launch, then I'm sure that there are some corners you can cut that don't involve your fridge.

I think he's just acknowledging what people always feared - 50$ console with a 200$ controller.
I actually wouldn't be surprised if Wiimote costs Nintendo more to make then the rest of the box combined.

btw a PS2 or GCN future game purchase is a maximum price of $19... now thats a good price for games :)

It's always been about the controller, not the graphics. I don't think anybody could say that Nintendo was trying to mislead them.

I went in last week to pre-order the ps3. No dice on that yet, said they wont start for a while. But they did say they were taking Wii preorders. The clerk kinda snickered at me when I told him I didnt care about the Wii. :lol

It's a gimmick and a useless one at that. There's nothing wrong with gaming that is fixed by this controller, and I don't think non-gamers will find this thing any more inviting or intuitive than the standard controllers of the other systems. It's just an alternate controller to do the same things in games you have always been able to do. Except with Wii, you'll be overpaying to do it with last generation's technology.

Wii is not on your radar at $250.

That's your opinion, but when the controller was announced my mind was going crazy with new things that this controller could do that previous controllers couldn't. Whether any of those ideas see the light of day isn't certain by any means, though.

But the Japanese system doesn't appear to include Wii Sports, which is being sold separately for 4800 yen. So there's still a bit of a value in the US config.

Maybe, but I don't really think it'll work out that way this time. People bought a DS Lite even though it's the same system as a DS. People bought how many Game Boys that were minimal upgrades to the last model. Nintendo also doesn't lose money on their hardware -- I think that's the one historical thing that's always the case. And if they think they can sell Wiis at $250 this holiday and make a little profit then more power to them. Just because Sony and Microsoft lose money hand over fist on their consoles does not and should not mean that Nintendo has to. Wii will eventually drop in price anyway, and when it does get to $199, PS3 probably won't have cracked $400.

But by then, Nintendo has your money. If that's the right price for you, then by all means scoop one up. I'll get one when it's $150 or $199 or if Twilight Princess is considerably better on Wii than it is on GameCube.

Oh I'm gonna. The system has games that I think look crazy fun, and I wanna play Zelda in 16:9. $250 is fine by me. I was already prepared to pay that anyway, since Nintendo's been saying nothing but 250 for months now.

Wii Sports means jack to me, and I'm sure it means the same to others. I'd rather they ditched it and lowered the price to something less shameful.

they save about 25 cents a console doing this... and this is nintendo we're talking about... every penny counts...

I wasn't originally going to buy Wii Sports, but now that I have to I think it would be a great way to get some of my family into videogames. We're all big Sports fanatics.
