I think we don't need any more proof nor arguments >.<

HOW DID YOU GET HIDDEN CAMERAS IN THERE? WHO'S YOUR SOURCE??

The man had a point.

Here's a crappy analogy:

How would you like it if you were in school. You are in Art Class. For your art project you decide to build a model. You worked tiressly on this model, spending all of your time designing and constructing it from the ground up. You finish the model finally. It's a stupendous work of art and everyone loves it. The art teacher says your model is good, but inexplicably gives it to another kid in the class who clearly isn't the most gifted. The kid puts some fabric as clothes and a hat on top of the model and some crappy accessories, and the teacher gives the kid an A+! Meanwhile you the kid who made this is wondering why he got an A+ for just adding something on top of the model you made.

I have no idea if this is true or not. However, PRODUCERS work on games. Claiming otherwise is assuming games magically assemble themselves out of goodwill and disparate components.
I meant that the Heller was a producer according to that article, yet Bowling claims that the guy doesn't even work for Treyarch. From this, it's like Activision want Treyarch to be hated.

Horrible news. You'd think a studio that has created such a blockbuster series as COD would be able to do some pet project.

Why did blizzard ever join these idiots?

So reading between the lines, Activision is going to parachute some new puppet studio heads into IW who will do their bidding without kicking up a fuss (ie make COD play house adventure land).

Look for mass exodus of IW employees soon.

Is it bad form to tell IW employees that company X is hiring, if you're from company X?

Not really bad form, even though companies compete - there's a lot of mutual respect for each other's work, most good people get snapped up after being laid off/screwed over/etc.

slightly OT

I don't know of Raven's relation with Activison (do they own Raven?), but it doesn't look good for them...

They're owned by Activision, which has since cut one of their teams after Wolfenstein.

I'm not sure if they will survive Singularity's release.

worrying about raven at this point is like worrying about a kitten you left in the washing machine an hour ago.

Yeah, whatever happened to that game?

I figured as much. I feel like one of the few people who enjoyed Wolfenstein :/.

But it's in a contract written up years ago. Which Activision wanted to get out of by demanding IW lay off people (if Gamasutra/Kotaku's articles are to be believed).

Yeah, I'm by no means defending Activision. But I think, if I'm in charge of Infinity Ward, and I allow a company like Activision to get a majority stake (own) our company, I'm gonna expect to have to compromise a bit, or get fucked over, regardless of contracts.

They apparently weren't too willing to compromise, so they got fucked over. Is it fair? No. Is Activision good and IW bad? Hell no. But is it really shocking that, when you're not willing to compromise with a mega publisher like Activision, they're going to try and fuck you over? To me it's not. And I'm surprised if it was to anyone in charge at IW. I just think it could have been avoided in a number of ways, and I also think IW are a little ego-heavy these days.

The fewer talented people chained to Activision the better. These guys will be able to do great things where ever they go. Probably better work than if they were stuck within the confines of Activision's system.

This may really be a good thing.

Meh, seems to me IW got too big of heads.

All Activision wanted was MW3. If you want to do something else, then fine, let someone else do MW3. If you want to do it yourself, then do it yourself.

I mean, Activision OWNS Infinity Ward. Can you imagine if a team tried doing this to someone like Nintendo? Using a few big titles to try and strong arm them into doing what they wanted?
You can't own people. EA thought the same thing a while back. They'd just buy up great developers and force them to do what they wanted.

Well, that didn't work very well, because everyone who didn't like it just quit. So when all the developers at a game studio quit, what do you have left? An empty building and a bunch of computers. Most of the value of the company they'd bought was gone.

Infinity Ward clearly cares about their franchise and does not want to run it into the ground like Activision obviously wants to do.

Activision is pretty much like alien planet suckers that destroy every planet they come to, and after that one is dead they try and find another to bleed dry.

If I were IW, I'd let Activision run it into the ground. Or, I'd make MW3, end it with a bang, and then let Activision run it into the ground. You move on, and create another masterpiece, do a few, and then let someone run that into the ground. It's happened with Crash, Spyro, and I'm sure many many other examples. Everyone cares about their franchises, and does it suck to have to see that sort of thing (a vision eventually being run into the ground) happen? I'm sure it does. But it is the way the business works these days.

And it seems to me that Activision was willing to let them start a new vision, a new IP, but IW wanted to control MW, but do their new IP first...It just really doesn't surprise me that Activision started flexing their muscle.

ATVI better not mess with bizzarre creations :(
Don't worry, for a first release all they likely need to do is reach expectations:

[6:06] Griffith says the concept of Blur falls in between the hardcore tuner sims and just-for-fun arcade racers. Mario Kart in particular shows the potential for a well-crafted mainstream racing game.

[6:07] But where Mario Kart was limited to one system, Blur will be multiplatform, Griffith notes. He throws to a trailer with the tagline that the company wants it to do to racing games what Call of Duty did to shooters.

The Games Industry sure is stressful.

Must be, just by looking at this place, my friends, and myself. Throw that videogame following on top of what goes on in business all the time just not as noticed, must be hell at times.

Can we summarize this thread in the OP ? This is a massive thread and so far I only know that two top execs from IW are fired by Activision. So how is the rest of IW holding up ?

Every Activision-owned developers need to quit en mass and protest against them. This is just crazy.

If Blur isn't a hit I think we can all guess what their fate will be.

They're releasing Blur the week after Split/Second is out :(

Must dig up the old quotes explaining why BC joined Activision...

Edit: ah yes, shrinking bank balance and they thought that Activision will let them do what they want (but for how long?).

Very cool. I'd like to add your studio to my Vancouver CG Studio Map on Google Map if that's alright. Vancouver videogame industry thank you for doing this during this bad time for Vancouver videogame developers !

So which of the two management, from that website, are you ?
