I don't know why you guys say mainlanders can't read traditional chinese. I guess you guys don't have mainlander friends, right? Because if you have, just ask them, you will know the answer.

I am a chinese, I am 24, I can assure you guys we can read traditional chinese very well.

Sony really won me over lol (with this plus Loh series)

Time to buy ps4 next year.

Asia gamers get the most out of these lol Korea, tawain, Singapore, Hong Kong etc get the best of all worlds. Our games also sometimes comes with multiple language and voice options to choose between like Chinese, Japanese and English too

Yup it has been great for us in recent years. Given a choice, i'd obviously prefer an English version but being bilingual seriously rocks :)

Meh. I lost interest completely after I realized I'd never be able to continue the series past 4. We're pretty much missing out on:

Yakuza Kenzan
Yakuza Kenzan 2 (or whatever its called)
Yakuza 5
Yakuza Zero
Yakuza PSP (forget what its called)

What's the point anymore?

Yakuza PSP = Yakuza Black Panther (there are two entries of this series, BTW)
Yakuza Kenzan 2 = Yakuza Ishin

And Yakuza Zero is not a continuation from the main series, but a prequel. You don't need to play any other game in the franchise to follow its story. In that sense, is the perfect title for SEGA to test other markets (like the chinese, and hopefully western markets too), and if they work milk the "new" customer base with a "Next-Gen/HD" re-release of the other Yakuza entries (including 5).

I don't think Zero is going to be used to gauge interest in the West, there are already 5 titles released for that. I think the Chinese localization and lack of English subbing makes it clear that Sega intends on releasing Yakuza exclusively to the East. As a fan of the series I'd much rather get 5 than Zero, I'm only interested in seeing how the story continues.

You people always making excuses for Sega. What's the deal with PSO2 then? Do we not like action RPGs anymore either?

If they can localize a terrible anime rhythm game filled with terrible anime music then they can localize Yakuza or PSO.

Agreed. It's beyond ridiculous IMHO. I'd buy PSO2 in a heartbeat if I could read any of the fucking text in it.

Does this market crazy love Yakuza or something? I assume a traditional Chinese localization is as much of an effort as an English one, but I don't know enough about the traditional Chinese market to say if this makes sense to me or not.

Yeah, when I read this, I knew that no way would SEGA announce a western localization. Does the company really think that people in NA/UK are not interested in this franchise even though they localized 1, 2 and Dead Souls?

EDIT: I forgot to list other titles - sorry.

Make it 5 titles, and apparently they think so, or at the very least, they think the sale doesn't justify the cost.

One thing I "love" about this is how they announced the Chinese localization in that slide USING ENGLISH. Oh, Sega, you know how to troll, I'll give you that...

Sega can you at least release a Korean version? I'd be happy with a Korean companion book because then I'd at least understand what the hell is going on with the plot

I've written about this elsewhere, but this is really a prime localization opportunity for Sega.

-releasing a prequel avoids rebooting the franchise, creating split mythologies and fanbases

-gives Sega an opportunity for a fresh start with the games - fresh start for their branding of Yakuza in the West, their messaging, etc.

-if this game is at least moderately successful in the West, then Sega has somewhat low risk options ahead of them as far as continuing the Yakuza momentum because they can just release HD compilations of 1+2 and 3+4 to catch the new fans up to speed. Unfortunately this kinda screws over the old fans if in the meantime there's nothing new for them to play, and it's hard to add on to Yakuza games since they are already full of side content. So uh...make like, Yakuza cooking sims or something, or localize Ishin =3

Of course, Yakuza games are still risky what with the licensing and the relatively dense script but they can make this work dammit!
