Sega Considering PS4 Remakes for Yakuza 2, 3, 4 and 5

I would like to see Nagoshi's team to focus on new games instead and bring improvements to the Yakuza formula (like Y6 already seems to be doing).Remakes take too much time and money.

But if they will be just remasters and not remakes, then yeah do it.
I love Yakuza but yes I'd prefer for that team to make something different by now.

I know this is positive news, but I'm having trouble getting excited to begin with. They ported Yakuza 1 and 2 to PS3 which wasn't in the west. They've stated they have no plans to release Kiwami in the west, whether plans come into existence, who knows, I highly doubt it. If they are going to make Kiwami level remakes of the first 5, I have no faith in them coming to the west ever. Even if they do, it'll be YEARS later.

Meanwhile, I'm still waiting for Shenmue 1 & 2 HD.

I would buy them all again!

Actually picked up Black Panther for the PSP - no idea what's going on but it feels so neat to have Kamurocho on handheld. Hope that fan translation comes soon.

This series is everything.

I wouldn't say it's half assed. They remade the main game in 0s engine, added a whole ton of new content/side stories as well as adding/extending story scenes. It's he best remake to a game I've ever played, bar the resident evil remake.
Plus the controls and combat have been improved so much thanks to using the newer engine, and being 60fps only helps it further with the combat, as it's so much smoother now that I can never play the original again, kiwami destroys it in every way (Majima should learn to give kiryu some alone time though, he's practically around every corner of kamuracho spoiling for a fight).

As for the remakes, I think kiwami 2 will happen within the next 2 years, with 3-5 then getting 1080p/60 fps ports in japan with better texturing and slightly better aa. I'd love them to do Kenzan, and I guess Of The End as well just to be complete. And yeah, don't expect them released outside of Japan any time soon!

See, you just said you can never play the original again, which proves my point about Kiwami being a bad way to start the series. Imagine going from that straight to Yakuza 2 or 3. It would feel like a total downgrade no matter what, unless they remade every game in the series, which is just not viable. Even if they just upgraded the graphics of the ps3 games, the gameplay would still be a step down.

Never start any series at the remake. If anything, that makes the remake really good. It improves on the original in so many ways.

just remake 2
the best of the series, and probably played by almost no one since it was a super late ps2 game

Make a Collection Edition with all of them with English subtitles and I'd buy it. Only have 4 but have been wanting to play all the first ones to get into the story better.

That statement is confusing as it references both the HD collection of 1&2 as well as Kiwami. So are they talking actual remakes (Kiwami) or just remasters?

I guess this is how they're getting away with Yakuza 6 being Kiryu's last stint as protagonist; they're recycling his last 5 adventures lol.

Yakuza 3 would be awesome because it's the only PS3 Yakuza that's not available digitally.
The physical version is getting hard to find nowadays...

Article said "remake" like Kiwami.

Oft repeated but if Sega is going to do it then they need to bring them over to the West. Especially in the cases where the script is already translated (which is all of the numbered ones, right?)

If it doesn't come out internationally, at least the Asian release might by chance have English subs. I believe Siren Blood Curse and a few other games did that.

Definitely remotely close. I loved the first couple to death but gave up on this series because of how samey they are. With 7 games and 5 spinoffs in 12 years Ryu Ga Gotoku is the Japanese Assassin's Creed.

Well, between each mainline title, you have a brand new story, new mini-games (taxi driving!), new ways to fight, new characters to fight with (who's styles are completely different compared to Kiryu's fighting style), new side quests (some of which stray from the usual beating of the asses like chase sequences and running a dojo), new heat moves (that went from fun looking to actually useful starting in 3), quality of life improvements, and small things like having civilian NPCs interact with each other and do more things than stand around starting in 4.

The spin-offs play largely different. Dead Souls is shit on because it's formula is based around shooting, which was never really a high point in the series (plus, the whole zombie element and weird boss fights). Ishin is set in a completely new area, and Not!Kiryu gets to switch between styles on the fly (and has a bigger focus on weapons). Oh, and in that one, you have a hiding mechanic.

Ass Creed isn't bad BECAUSE of their yearly updates. it's because the games fluctuate in quality that people feel more time would be a better option, since Ubisoft simply can't just make a game in a year's time and make it well. Yakuza does not have that problem. To imply that each game is a remake of another one (which doesn't even make sense) is being obtuse. They are merely sequels of each other - containing vast improvements and different reasons to play each one.

Everyone should play Yakuza 2. Not watch a playthru, not cruise through the recap vids, everyone should play it.

I'm in for 2 Kiwami, remakes, remasters, or whatever. I'm down for updated/perfected/New Yakuza (in English).
