Sega has thrown out the monkeys

AlteredBeast

Fork 'em, Sparky!
It would seem that way, because I haven`t seen nor heard many bad business decisions by Sega lately. Plus they have announced surefire hits lately and their next gen games and business deals with Monolith, etc. are giving them a really stellar lineup.

They have guaranteed hits on every system it would seem.

PS2 - Phantasy Star Universe, Ryu Go taku (sp?)
XBox360 - Condemned, Full Auto, Sonic Next Gen
DS - Beetle King, Sonic Rush
PSP - Brain Trainer, Virtua Tennis

some are worldwide and/or Japanese only, but they are back to what they were doing at the start of the Dreamcast era, pumping out hit after hit. It will be a shame now if they don`t announce Shenmue III just for me and the few other players in the world.

Ryu Go Taku is a "sure fire hit"? How quick you think it's going to make back the $20.000.000 investment, if ever?

I agree more generally though... it does seem that Sega's finally on the right track. Let's hope they stay that way.

well, you have a point, perhaps it won`t actually do that well, but maybe with an english localization it could be a potential hit, it is getting alot of press lately, but I guess we will have to see.

FLAWLESS VICTOLY!
As much as I like monkeys, I honestly don't care if there is ever another game in that series. I don't get the ecstatic love, though they are moderately fun.

I'm interested in Ryu though I agree it's going to have to be pretty good and different in many ways from Shenmue to be a money maker. It is nice to see that Sega is still willing to invest in the epic even though they've had such bad marketing and development over the last several years. I wonder if this game will be regionalized.

It`s gotta be pretty much guaranteed, though. Who is going to make a $20 million game without thinking about a multi region release?

plus, Virtua Fighter 5 and Power Smash 3 are going to be big arcade hits.

Did someone say bad business decisions?

- Shadow the Hedgehog (okay, maybe it's not that bad, but still, the GUNS!)
- That new Shining game for the PS2
- Saving Trizeal

Anyone feel free to list more :D

bad gaming decisions would be those, but the business decisions seem fine to me.

Shadow the Hedghog will sell even if it`s worse than Sonic Heroes.

but the business decisions seem fine to me.

Is the whole Saving Trizeal thing basically Sega publishing the PS2 port? If that's the case, it doesn't strike me as a very smart business move.

why not? I don`t think it would be that costly nor difficult to port a shooter. I don`t think they would do it for the heck of it.

The ghost of Dreamcast past
Sega Sammy have been developing great games for these past few years; some people just don't have access and pay attention to the arcade market.

that trailer looks amazing. Wow, they better port this to the states with haste so as nott o get lost in the PS3 release of 2006.

Sega never stopped making good games, but it seems lately that they arent making too many bad ones...like Floigan Brothers.

Ryu Ga Gotoku looks great. It does have a bit of that Shenmue feel with those huge, epic fights. Hopefully Sega will localize it.

It really does seem that Sega is getting back on track. They may not be back to their former glory quite yet but it definitely seems that they are on the path.

Sammy's probably responsible for all their recent decisions

'SAN FRANCISCO and LONDON (September 12, 2005) SEGA® of America, Inc. and SEGA Europe Ltd. today announced that they will publish SEGA Casino™ for the Nintendo DS™ System. SEGA Casino deals out plenty of gambling action for gamers on-the-go with a casino experience that features five games, and six unlockable games.

Players can place their bets on SEGA Casino’s Roulette, Craps, Baccarat, and other unlockable games, including Chuck-a-Luck, Keno, and three Video Poker variants (Jacks or Better, Double Bonus, and Deuces Wild). They can improve their skills by taking on AI opponents solo, or they can play wirelessly with up to four friends by using a single cartridge and downloading SEGA Casino temporarily onto other players’ DS units. Card game fans will be able to challenge friends in heated rounds of Black Jack, Texas Hold ‘em, and the unlockable 7 Card Poker!

Adding variety, players can double-down on SEGA Casino’s three gameplay styles: Free Mode, in which players can unlock games; Wireless Mode, which allows players to compete against four other friends in multiplayer card action via the Nintendo DS wireless connection; and Casino Mode, in which players attempt to turn $1,000 into millions by winning tournaments. Card sharks and big-spenders can even unlock higher-limit Casino Rooms!

SEGA Casino will be available this holiday at retailers nationwide for an MSRP of $29.99. "

Probably that one, yeah

They took a chance releaseing it on DC so it's only right that Sega should help them out. I applaud Sega doing it, we'd have a broader games market if more companies supported the smaller developers.

Sega's back baby! I'm glad because as a Sega fan, their post Dreamcast efforts started off great and then turned shitty. Here's hoping they have a great next gen and make themselves become a strong Genesis-era like force again.

I really hope we see Skies of Arcadia 2 next gen.

I hear that. The plot was open ended just enough to make a workable sequel from it.

That or be like Tales or FF and have it completely new. The memories of me playing this game on the DC...bliss I tell you.

I wouldn't mind Dragon Force 3 either. Or maybe do some new projects that kick ass along the veins. I don't want Sega becoming another EA: A sequel pumping company.

Sadly, the only likely worldwide million sellers consist of...

-Shadow the Hedgehog (GC/PS2/XB)
-Sonic Gems Collection (GC/PS2)
-Sonic the Hedgehog (360/PS3)
-Sonic Riders (GC/PS2/XB)
-Sonic Rush (DS)
-Super Monkey Ball DS (DS)

If Sonic Rush is able to capture the magic of the Genesis Sonic titles, then I will officially be a Sega fan again. Also, if Revolution ends up having gyro functionality like I expect it to, Super Monkey Ball Revolution would be fantastic. Moving the controller to move the maze would feel as natural as those pocket games where you try to maneuver a ball around a maze without falling into all the holes along the way.
