SEGA: No US/EU Release for Valkyria Chronicles 3

Not open for further replies.
As a VC fan, this really sucks. The only solace I can offer everyone here is that UDON at least localized and just released the Valkyria Chronicles 3 art book, which does contain a section that chronicles the game's entire story. It's the only official VC 3 localization available outside Japan.

Full disclosure: I am an UDON employee. But I would have bought this book as a VC fan regardless.

"solace"

jesus H you guys are killing us

Sad news to be sure, but at least we have closure on the issue. I wish more companies would just come out and tell fans their intentions, but I understand why they wouldn't.

Oh Sega. Why do you hate money so much. Text localization, PSN, a solid 2 months of easy internet hype, 200k sales easy.

::Sigh:: They're so bad at this.

They should had never moved the series to the PSP and went anime and then attempted to backtrack.

And seriously WTF Dunan, seriously WTH

What a shame. The original actually sold me on a ps3 in the first place. I had no problem paying close to 500 dollars just to play it.

Edit: Wow. This bump penetrated the twitter feed. Nice work.

200k? On PSP/Vita and PSN only?

lol.

Their best bet is a PS3 remaster. Better if it's on the Vita as well.

I didn't even know this was localized so in a way this bump was worth something.

Feels bad remembering this will never come :(

Drumming up the hype for this game would be EASY, especially considering how crazed the fanbase is. Hell, BattleBlock sold 100k in the first week. If sega would put the time and effort into really communicating with the fanbase and get the people who care roused and primed, 200k in the first 3 months would be easy. Price it at 15. Hell price it at 20, people will pay.

But of course, it's Sega, so they NEVER WILL. Moreover, they won't even try.

::sigh:: It's so dumb. Plenty of avenues to go down and they just stand their in the middle of the road, wondering why their crap doesn't sell.

Sorry if the bump was misleading, folks. I chose a thread that clearly had "no US/EU release" in the title rather than one that implied some kind of hope just so that people wouldn't start hoping, but...

And Maverick, let me thank you and Udon for sticking with this project and going out of your way for completing something so niche. I loved this game and was anxiously awaiting an English translation; your book is the next best thing. I have all your previous efforts, plus the Japanese originals, and have loved them all. Udon could easily have not done this book and left English-reading fans with nothing VC3-related at all. I hope you sell hundreds of thousands of copies.

Trust me, even if they did put in the effort, they're not going to drum up 200k worth of sales on the PSP/Vita and doubly so with a digital only release. JRPGs don't have that pull.

This bump...

Dunan needs to get an eternal tag of fucking shame for this.

At least the fan-translation is making somewhat progress. I'm... kind of disappointed I essentially have to resort to fan-translations for shit like Ace Attorney Investigations 2, FF Type-0, and this, though... But that's beside the point.

Oh no, they'd have to make it playable on PS3.

Is there a single Vita game that's sold over 100k yet?

Monster install base on 360 for Buttholeblock Theater though. Did it even release on PS3? I imagine it did, but...yeah they're planets ahead of the Viter.

Consolation for English-speaking fans of VC3:

The artbook finally shipped!

I'd be all over this normally, but having no actual connection to the game itself makes it feel a bit hollow. I have the previous two art books, a lot of enjoyment comes from reading through details and descriptions while thinking back on experiences within the games themselves.

Big fan of the character artist, hope he does more games and they get localized.

OK, all this hatred for my bump has got to stop.

We all knew a long time ago that this game wasn't getting translated.

And nobody would have been very surprised if the artbook had never been translated, particularly after delays were announced.

And today, more than two years after the game was initially released, and its platform now no longer in production, Udon goes the extra mile and finally releases a book translation that might well lose them money. All for us diehard fans.

This post could well have been "bad news; the artbook got canned too; Udon ran out of money". But they stuck it out and they released it -- and at a massive discount, to boot! After placing my order seven months ago, I was pretty happy to see that e-mail in my box today.

With this book in hand, the original game might now be playable to someone with only rudimentary Japanese, or maybe with no Japanese at all. There will be chapter-by-chapter dialog and plot synopsis info; character names; everything we got to enjoy in the first two books.

If you've got the Japanese game sitting on your shelf but gave up on it, give it another shot with this book at your side. If you gave up on ever trying to play it, read this book and give it another shot.

My post certainly didn't take this game away from anyone. Now go to Amazon, and buy this thing if you haven't.

This deserved the bump. I see articles on Siliconera about Pandora's Tower completing Operation Rainfall today. But it was flawed from the start to not include Valkyria Chronicles 3, the far superior game.

Operation Rainfall was always about three games on the Wii that were being localized in Europe, but not North America. It was a campaign to rally against Nintendo of America being stupid.

They could've added additional games (and they do have the campaign hub) but I got the feeling they're very interested in Nintendo software.

I'm not even 100% sure it would bring in $200k in revenue.

This bump disgusts me, it almost killed my day. ;)

My Amazon order shipped too, actually. For some reason my order was actually already prepared on the 12th but stayed in the same fucking state for four days. At least now it should be moving to me.

Whoever gets it first should make a new thread for it in Gaming, assuming you're down. My estimated arrival date is the 22nd, but I've gotten lucky before.

Thread named '' SEGA: No US/EU Release for Valkyria Chronicles 3'' gets bumped in 2013 and people really expected something? :lol

Just chill. The fan translation seems to be coming along ok. This is one of those games I wouldn't be too worried about.
